We have decided to change the Teams page to be the Liverpool Match Posts page, so look for posts talking about the latest Liverpool match there.

But most of the posts still go to the Liverpool Banter page.

Also more posts are being added to the Liverpool Other Posts and the More Liverpool Posts pages.

Ed002 a question for you if I may - and bear In mind I may be getting things mixed up here.
You can sign ‘unatttached’ players any time right?
I remember you explaining something about buy out or release clauses (can’t rememvwr which) while back, where the club theoretically pays the player to pay his own clause, therefore buying him out his contract.
I’m not trying to find ways to break the rules - just curious - but if a player buys himself out his contract, he is effectively a free agent right?
What stops a club doing this outside the transfer window?

Believable3 1Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - A player who makes himself a free agent outside of a transfer window cannot be signed by another club until the next transfer window as the rules specifically require him to be a free agent before the previous transfer window closes - hence the reason why Claudio Marchisio left Juventus yesterday whilst the transfer window was still open and not today. Clubs can also only pay a player to release himself from his contract in Spain, else the money is taxable so it would be necessary to pay double.}

18 Aug 2018 10:29:24
Ah so no English team can take Marchisio as he wasn’t a free in their window?
Thanks for the reply, informative as always!

Would it be permanent or a loan, any info on that Eds? Big ups to the kid for what ever reason he decided against the move a lot of players would have. Pedro ain't a kid no more so hope this turns out well for him like Hendo and the Fulham show and he doesn't end up like Borini with his Sunderland episode. Kinda got me thinking how these kids get taken to foreign land ( in the sense that new life changing decisions will be taken) only find broken promises and lack of proper plan in place for the . I get that money and agents significant role but we talking human lives. We idolize them and to certain envy them but when you look at people like Gary Speed you realize that these kids have every day emotions, challenges and tribulations.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure it would be permanent as he has no future at Liverpool. As for your more general comment, you are right that it should be more of a concern than it is. Some countries, like Brazil, have restriced moves abroad until the player is 18. Others allow younger players to move if their families move and have jobs not provided by the clubs. Most require education needs to be met in line with national standards - which is what happens in England regardless of language barriers etc.. But there are much more stringent rules coming. Manchester City got away wilth an issue last year by the skin of their teeth when an Italian passport of convience came to their rescue (as the rules discuss such passports but only in terms of adults). Interestingly Pipco is going down that road right now. But as you say, and certainly when moving to a country with an entirely different culture, language, food etc.. And clubs need to recognise when they send players abroad they need to keep a close eye on them to make sure they don't end up spending too much time alone playing electronic games. For instance there was a problem with a couple of players on loan in the Netherlands (where they were simply sat around in apartments for hours on end) and that resulted in the club concerned having them get involved with spending some time with the local community (schools and charities) and putting someone out there for a couple of months to steady everything, and get them playing golf etc.. A very good point, thanks.}

18 Aug 2018 20:13:13
Thanks on the detailed response Eds, Iam glad teams seem to have recordnised the issue and importantly actively working to words some sort of improvement. Some times Iam just left star struck from reading your response . Legendary stuff. Keep well.

Klavan is apparently heading to Italy today after Liverpool agreed a £2 million deal with Cagliari.

17 Aug 2018 10:05:41
Good luck to him, I like Ragnar.

It would seem that Klopp is putting more faith in Joe as a CB this season, which is good news.

Matip is back in training too.

17 Aug 2018 12:24:39
If true then good luck to him, I always felt he gave his all and was one of our more dependable CBs in a shaky defence before we brought in VVD.

Would you think it is because of Gomez or do you think might be Phillips coming through as well as Klavan was down the pecking order any way?

17 Aug 2018 13:36:24
I reckon it'll be a case of "£2m in the pocket is better than £1-2m spent on wages for someone who might play 5 games this season". Business decision, and a good one, although I do like Klavan, never let us down.

It seems we'll see Nat Phillip's a lot more this season, if Klavan leaves. Mario is now injury prone; Gomez has a history too. Lovren missed weeks at a time from time to time. Van Dijk has had a long lay off before.
I like Nat Phillips though. Seems very composed.

If it’s lovren and vvd first choice and Gomez and Matip second, we don’t need Klavan, so the money as saved wages is okay. Always got Phillips and I reckon Fabinho or hendo could do a job there if desperate.

Reports that we will sign Rabiot on a pre-contract in January. I doubt that is the case but, it's a bit random so I'm wondering if we have any interest in him.

Believable2 11Unbelievable

17 Aug 2018 03:31:02
How many central midfielders are we supposed to stockpile?
We have already have 6 senior ones and a couple of prospects looking for game time. Rabiot makes no sense at all.

17 Aug 2018 05:01:15
Well we were looking at Fekir all summer, if Keita is playing in the more advanced attacking role now then Rabiot makes sense as a central midfielder.

He's a good player, but I think he'll either end up at Barca, or Juve if he moves.

Chances are that he'll get a bumper new contract and more playing time at PSG, though.

I can't see him coming to LFC - we've got too many midfielders as it is. He does seem a little temperamental too, if the reports are to be believed.

17 Aug 2018 11:31:11
You never have to many players if your buying good quality.

X quality player comes in, someone lesser moves on. That's how you build quality.

We sign de bryune tomorrow, then wijnaldum moves on. It's not nasty or disrespectful bu5 that's how it's done.

Why do yu all live in a world where we can't sell players or our players are irreplaceable.

We have a very very good team but more quality is always out there.

Agree3 1Disagree

17 Aug 2018 14:19:52
True, Kloppsboss, but you have to be able to actually move those players on.

Ultimately, there's no point in having so many players that they can't all be registered and you definitely don't want someone on 100k a week nowhere near the bench.

I suspect a couple will go before the end of August and possibly a couple in January. We're still pretty well stocked in pretty much every position, though.

Evening Ed's,

If Liverpool were to sell one of either mignolet or Karius (possibly loan for him!? ) who would take the 3rd choice spot? Would be buy an older keeper or promote youth?

Keep up the good work!

Mignolet’s agent in talks with Napoli apparently. If he does go then all the best to him.

Believable7 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Napoli want one of David Ospina or Simon Mignolet. Besiktas want one of Loris Karius, Ospina or Mignolet. Mignolet was priced out of a move to Fenerbahce. If Liverpool were to drop their demands for a loan fee for Karius, I suspect something could be done.}

15 Aug 2018 17:17:08
Currently in talks with Arsenal fro Ospina so that option looks dead in water. I think we will be stuck with him until at least January now.

Spot on Ed as usual with your info. You explained both Karius and Mignolet could well leave in August. I have to say though I thought Karius would stay. Kids not ready to be back up imo.

Agree4 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - He should have moved at the first opportunity. Staying at the club puts him in an untenable situation but I would not put it beyond Klopp to force him to stay.}

15 Aug 2018 18:51:54
He does want to leave then Ed? Was at Anfield on sunday and he seemed happy enough in the warm up, even signed a few programmes. Shame really.

Agree3 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - His position is completely untenable.}

{Ed002's Note - You must have a very short memory.}

While there are some cretins, I think the ovation he received on his Anfield return speaks volumes to how the real fans feel about him.

15 Aug 2018 20:53:43
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. At this stage I’d be happy for Karius to go and prove himself elsewhere and Migs to stay as reserve. 👍🏻.

Agree3 6Disagree

15 Aug 2018 21:22:47
Saying ‘He should have moved at the first opportunity’ implies that he has had a chance to move and didn’t take it. Therefore I hardly think we can blame Klopp if he is still at Liverpool when the window closes.

Agree11 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I am sure Klopp is not responsible for anything at all.}

15 Aug 2018 22:54:59
Actually I think it is fair to blame Klopp for the goalkeeper situation at the club, it has been a shambles for some time. Mignolet and Karius were told they were no1 keeper, then Ward has just wasted a whole year out of his career when it was obvious he needed to go back out on loan for his sake.
Ed02 is right, Karius position is untenable, the vile abuse he and his family has received is despicable. Any mistake Karius made this season would have been magnified and the pressure he would have felt at away grounds would have been too great.
However i do not understand why Liverpool put crazy prices on players they clearly do not want, and put off any potential suitors, surely a more reasonable price to move the goalkeepers on would be beneficial to everybody in the long run.

Agree6 17Disagree

17 Aug 2018 10:04:49
*”Karius recieves abuse from some cretins; let’s blame Klopp it must be his fault”

Actually no, it’s the fault of a few mindless persons why Karius will struggle to hold down a role with the club.

Agree1 0Disagree

17 Aug 2018 22:09:32
I never said it was Klopps fault for the abuse Karius received, as you rightly say that was down to the cretins. I think he handled the Danny Ward situation poorly. How was Ward going to get game time over Karius and Mignolet, the whole season was wasted for him.
Klopp is doing a brilliant job and bought so well this season, but we are allowed to occasionally criticize him, the goalkeeper situation definitely could have been handled better.

12 Aug 2018 11:51:54
I no we'd all love to see Liverpool at full tilt today but the most important thing is the 3 points. I'd take a 1- 0 win today just to get points on the board let city be the pace setters and be the team who everyone focuses on and Chase down while we quietly go about our business. Get some momentum and a winning mentality before we start putting on a show.

Hey Eds, could you provide any insight of potential destination for the following players and if it will be a loan or sale.

Thanks Eds for the great work all summer long! Also did you Ed02 do another Sharkopod yet?

Believable3 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - (a) Napoli found the asking price too high, asked for a loan but Liverpool were not interested. There is an issue with wage demands as well. Will need to see what happens. (b) Asking price too high for a sale, loan an option but Liverpool would need a new contract signed first - looking for ne interest. (c) Olympiakos keen but not at the asking price - I would think maybe Turkey will provide an option but whatever happens the price needs to come down. (d) A loan to a Championship club (WBA, Aston Villa or Nottingham Forest) is most likely - any thought of a sale to Scotland is now waning.}

10 Aug 2018 22:13:23
Not trying to get into money really, but how much can we really expect to get back on Markovic? At this point, any kind of offer has to be considered, right?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed0333's Note - we won’t get a penny for him.

10 Aug 2018 22:45:22
I understand getting the best deal you can, but sometimes the best deal may be to let them go a little below worth, for the good of the player, to get some income and off the wage bill - especially ones like Markovic and mignolet, who are 3rd choice at best.

Agree4 1Disagree

10 Aug 2018 23:52:13
Firmane I think we should trust the club to know what’s best and if they want the price they want there’s obviously a reason for that.
Don’t worry about the players they are being paid more than handsomely for what they do, or don’t do.

Agree14 2Disagree

11 Aug 2018 07:46:42
Totally agree Bobby. Too often we have been dictated to by other clubs and by players who want away. I'm not saying be unrealistic with our fees but let's have fees in mind and stick to it. Let's remember these players are being paid well and understood the demands of the role upon entering the contract in the first place.

Agree10 1Disagree

17 Aug 2018 00:47:07
It always confuses me that window after window our asking price seems too high for Markovic and others. Just get rid, we’re still going to be paying wages regardless of a loan I assume so let them go and try and resurrect their careers.

Agree0 0Disagree

09 Aug 2018 20:11:36
Just to clarify, teams can still sign unattached players before August 31st right? and Eds, are there any free agents that you rate highly at the moment that haven't been signed yet.

Believable0 2Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - . Clubs can sign players who are free agents year round IF they were free agents during the previous transfer window. So if Liverpool were to release Markova from his contract he cannot sign for a new club until the new year. If however Liverpool wanted to sign a player who is already out of contract - say after Mignolet leaves on August 27 - the they can take Ross Turnbull on board.}
