Thanks, it was the same old story. The forwards don’t take their chances and the midfield and defence can’t manage a game even against Newcastle. Top 4 very unlikely.

Hi Ed001 - Thanks for the review, always look forwards to it no matter the score. I just wanted to ask your opinion on Saint-Maximin, he looks to have taken his game up a notch after his injury and was certainly very influential against us!

Thanks in advance.

{Ed001's Note - but what did he do against us? People say that but he was shut out of the game one-on-one time and time again, losing the ball to us. The game changed when Wilson came on and he caused us problems not St-Max, who has no intelligence. If he knew how to make a run, he could have destroyed us as our defence was not tracking runners at all.}

Maybe I need to rewatch the game! But I was impressed by his ability in the first half especially to beat the first man and manage to carry the ball well, picking up free-kicks and providing somewhat of a way out for Newcastle.

I do agree with you though if he improved his intelligence he could certainly elevate his game a few levels. Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - he lacks end product, once in a blue moon he will do something spectacular, but the rest of the time he just runs into a blind alley and loses the ball.}

Thanks for the review eds1. Who’d have thought that after losing vvd, gomez and matip our biggest problems would be in front of goal not defending. How about Wilson instead of origi?

{Ed001's Note - he has been awful for ages, last season he was rank for Bournemouth, by his own admission. He tends to do this, gets a move, plays well, then fades until his next move. So I would say no.}

Taking off Thiago was a terrible decision, literally the only midfielder there who can pass a ball. I also maintain that a midfield without Fabinho is going to struggle to close a game out.

I really don’t see that the result would have been any worse if we had have given Ben Davies a punt at CB alongside Kabak, what’s the worst thing that could have happened? It certainly can’t have been worse than Saturday’s actual result.

If we go against United with Fabinho at CB and not in midfield, we are going to lose and probably lose quite heavily.

StMaximim reminds me of Traore, power, strength and pace. But no end product or intelligence at all. Both just charge forward with no thought until they eventually lose the ball.

Yes, they’re usually cathartic these match reviews.
But this one feels like it’s scratching a sore that hasn’t healed yet.
Sorry Ed, haha, it’s just too painful.

{Ed001's Note - it was the same writing it. Usually they make me feel better, but it just left me feeling more frustrated.}

nice one ed. I genuinely feel we should play a cat at CB in order to have Fab in midfield.

Trying to think positively, for the first time in a long time I saw much better movement between the lines, passes to feet around the edge of the box and little touches to nearby team mates. one was thiago to salah, touch to Jota who shot it into row Z. terrible finish, but I was heartened to see some of the chemistry developing as it looked like we were trying to be more incisive rather than passing around the force field of the box looking for a cross all the time. I thought that was promising and something to build upon

At the end there, until we have our best players at the back, we are going to be prone to these kinds of things happening. Not too dissimilar to the time before VVD came in.

{Ed001's Note - agree with you totally.}

Great read as always, Ed01. I found it interesting that you said the reason we were getting quality chances last season and for the past few seasons under Klopp, was because the press was on point cos when done effectively, it creates high quality chances that our boys did not even need to think before taking them. I can agree with this side of things.

To this end, I think our boys tho, creating high quality chances vs Newcastle, were overthinking things prolly trying to make sure the touch and shot is true hence, dithering and then the either miss the chance, hit the GK or jus blaze over. I think our boys need to get back to basics and just try not to overthink these moments BUT that comes with training time nd confidence, which are lacking right now.

As for St. Maximan, tyical MOTD fever. The guy is super inconsistent and only had.

Sent too soon. Regarding St Maximin, it is all well and good when he had the freedom to run at us in the first half hour of the game. As soon as we put bodies around him as soon as the ball went to him, where was he? Yeah, I thought so. The guy is supremely inconsistent, lacks end product and can get away with having 10 poor games and then has a good game and the last 10 poor games, are forgotten. Sorry, not for me.

Oh and one more thing regarding St. Maximin, he responded to an LFC fan who disgracefully tweeted that we should swap Mane for him. He responded by saying how disrespectful that comment was to Mane's ability and would do well to get to Mane's level. See, even he knows he needs to work on his game to get anywhere near Liverpool right now.

Cheers ed, good to read these whilst I'm not watching the games. Plan is to start watching from next season but I don't know mate, seems like it's still hard work. Hope you're well ed1, take care mate.

{Ed001's Note - it is hard work without atmosphere and VAR just drives me up the wall. Good thanks mate, hope all is well with you?}

I quite like St Maximin. You have to accept he’s not world class or maybe not an intelligent player. But I feel he has more in his locker than the likes of Traore and is a pretty unpredictable player. Let’s not forget he’s not playing in a great team neither so with good coaching he may find some consistency.

Sorry for the late reply Ed1, just too damn busy mate and forgot I'd posted lol. Yes I'm very well thank you! - Those were the 2 main reasons I stopped watching mate, it just wasn't the same at all. I'm hoping I can get back into it. I can't remember which game it was but a month or 2 back I tried watching one and had it turned off inside 5 minutes. I think the atmosphere of the fans will help a great deal.

{Ed001's Note - it does make a huge difference having fans in the ground. The game is nothing without an atmosphere. Glad you are well mate.}
