We can't trust the fitness of matip we are already a defender down with him in the squad as we have VVD, gomez, fabihno . Gomez is also flakey with injuries I think it's important too get a centre back relying on unproven teens is very risky and no guarantee fab is a long term answer at CB .

Can we please stop calling Gomez injury prone or act like he misses loads of games, he missed 1 through injury last year, the other games he missed were when matip started ahead of him.

The only department that we were lacking in last year was a left footed back up for Robbo. We now have Kostas.
Klopp has also brought in an amazing midfielder and an exceptional forward.
If Klopp had really wanted a centre half he would have got one.

Sorry no agenda here I am afraid I was harsh on gomez but matip is never playing and reaching Fabio aurelio type status as for shaq he is giving the invisible man a run for his money .

Fab and vvd could potentially be one of the best centre back partnerships of all time. Play thiago cb with hendo covering and in bigger games possibly push fab back to cdm with gomez or matup coming in.

Personally would like vvd fab as our cbs with a kid three of thiago he do and Gini. World class.

We only need to worry if VVD is injured long term and there’s nobody in the world who could replace him anyway. Every team has players that are irreplaceable and he is ours.
We’d cope with Fab, Gomez and Matip plus Billy and VD Berg short term but no matter who we brought in we’d suffer if VVD is out long term.
People are quick to forget we won a CL with Matip and VVD at the back and had an insane defensive record with Gomez and VVD at the start of the season before last. What was it? Only 5 goals conceded Before Christmas or something like that?
This are quality players who deserve a bit more respect than some give them. VVD however is the key.

If we don't lose a midfielder, I don't think we need another cb. I did think we need 4 and I don't think the kids are ready yet. But fab was impressive and as we have another deep midfielder, we do have 4 capable cbs.

Pete, fab is very capable but he's not a CB. Gomez is very good and the who agenda by hailstones etc is wrong. he's had a couple of serious injuries but he's usually pretty reliable. I would however like a first choice CB to partner VVD long term and can challenge Gomez. I think Gomez is good and he's still young. We all have different opinions of course. To be honest the moaning and player knocking on this site is getting to a point where its embarrassing. We are champions but people still do nothing but moan. Change the record lads.

OP a player having injury problems is never their fault. It's a little unsavory when they repeatedly get called out for it imo. Go a bit easy mate. Shaq is back in full training and will hopefully start against Lincoln. Gomez is expected back for the next game and Matip after the international break.

You'll probably see Koumetio, VdB/ Phillips against Lincoln as well. They're not bad defenders. Buying a CB will not save our season that doesn't need saving. Some people just can't stop picking holes.

Like if we buy a CB, then what? Then we need a fox-in-the-box or a new backup goalkeeper in case Alisson, Adrian, Kelleher and Karius get injured?
