Hi ed01

Let's say Liverpool sign Thiago, would part of the reason for adding another cm be to allow some of the other cms to be more available for their secondary positions as cover where needed. E. g Fabinho playing some games at cb, Milner some games at left back and Jones some games as a left winger. I know they have operated there already but will more availability due to a midfielder buy the club some time to assess finances in the future to sign the cover they desire in those areas? Just a thought in the short term.

{Ed001's Note - it is always better to have more flexibility so yes.}

Thanks Ed01

I suppose looking at it from that view it makes a lot more sense to add a quality cm. At first I couldn't make sense of the rumour so I thought about it until I could see the sense in it. The flexibility gives us a bit more cover instead of buying 'back ups' which are players deemed not good enough.

{Ed001's Note - it still seems an overly large outlay for a player of his age who has had two serious knee injuries.}

Still think a move for Brandt or Aouar would have made more sense. We still don't have any decent cover for Mane on the left wing and both the above imo are better and long term fits if Klopp wants to use a CAM next season.
The Thiago deal just does not sit right with me.

Seems so Ed01. If it happens we can only hope it works out and that we can keep him fit. A real player but injuries and age are a concern. A risk but would love it if it worked out.

{Ed001's Note - very much so.}

Ah but Ed he's a class act and would make our midfield purrrr.
He's a master in transition, breaking up play, beating players with a nonchalant turn or burst of speed, gets the team going forward and starts off attacking moves. If it's true he wants to play for us then I'd say the price can be negotiated with a year left on his contract.

Is there a player profile on him or could you do one?

Thanks v much.

{Ed001's Note - added him to the list for you.}

Ed001 do you have anything to add mate on the situation with Thiago, in terms of our interest in signing him or not.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I just know Bayern are very clear we have not spoken to them at all and they know of no interest.}

Thanks Ed001. I found there is one but it seems to be from 8 years ago, before he left Barca.

On a related point, how do you like Fabinho at CB?
I know he hasn't played a huge amount there so far, but from what I've seen he looks comfortable there and Klopp seems to trust him. Could you see Fab being a viable option as a first-choice CB alongside Virg?
Thanks again.

{Ed001's Note - wow that is an old one!

Klopp only plays him there when he has to. It is a waste of him to play him that deep and hold him back from being able to play incisive passes further up the pitch. He is not mobile enough for the high line either.}

Yeah good point actually. Thinking on it again it makes more sense if Thiago is a replacement/ upgrade on Wijnaldum, if he's being sold. Of course then the money received for Gini could help with the Thiago signing.

Do you or Ed002 know of interest in Gini?

{Ed002's Note - Not at this time.}

I think there's something in it. Does seem a bit strange but, I dunno, klopp when asked batted it aside but I remember thinking "somethings happening" it was my instinct. Could be wishful thinking.

I think signing someone like Thiago fits in with the evolution of our team. Klopp spent the first year or two training the team's conditioning and fighting that dutch guy on twitter. where is that guy now btw!?

and then his signings were reflections of the type of player we needed to execute that kind of full tempo style. I think with the likes of Keita and Minamino we are seeing similar types of players with high energy but also with technique to help us break through sides. Bringing in someone like Thiago would just be another natural evolution along that track of finding a 'playmakers' to help us between the lines. But the evolution part would be that we have so mastered our pressing game that we could have the luxury of bringing in a player like Thiago who doesn't bring that kind of energy 100% but will be protected in the team that will allow him to bring he best out of his strengths. I think this could have been Coutinho had he decided to stay.

anyways, I'm still of the mind that we simply have too many bodies in midfield to make the money worth spending. Fabinho, Hendo, Gini, Ox, Keita, Milner, Jones. not worth it for me unless at least two of those names are going.
