Can I get everyone's view on our kick off routine? It's been something that's been frustrating me for ages.

Why, when we're a possession based team, hoof it long from kick off? Majority of times it goes out of play and we lose possession straight away. Why not pass it around, get everyone a touch of the ball and move the opposition around? We don't do it after conceding goals so why from kick off? It does baffle me?

From my view its to automatically put the opposition on the back foot. I personally don't think we intend on winning the first ball but to challenge for it and potentially win a throw in high up the pitch or win the second ball and catch the opposition out of shape. Suppose there would be many ways of thinking as to why we do it.

Someone reliable told me that it's actually an advice from a certain shaman, in order to get the luck to win games they have to do that.

It's only for league games though. The shaman didn't tell anything for cup games.

Its similar to a rugby kicking game, because we use the high press effectively, it puts us on the front foot from the off.

We should lay it off to Alisson for a shot.

I noticed this last year and fully endorse it. It’s more of a first half thing than second half. Get the ball immediately in the opposition half and more importantly don’t invite pressure on our back line immediately. Momentum is everything.

It’s also been said that it’s a good tactic if we let a goal in and opposition is on a forward momentum push.

Comes down to game management.

The one thing I’d say is that I have yet to see anyone take a shot at goal. Centre kicks are now direct and can go forward. Why has nobody tried a cheeky shot. Goalies are always off their line.

OP, this is easy. Not only do we put teams under pressure when we hoof it (at and angle) up the field toward Mane on the left who can either win the header or if it goes out of play, we can press the team on the throw-in, something tonnes of teams actually don't or can't do.

Also by doing this and if we get it right, you can actually create a chance off of it if you can win the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th ball. Don't believe me? o watch the kick off of the CL final in Madrid where LFC win the 1st ball to the 4th ball and Hendo releases Mane on the left against Trippier and then the rest is history. Just so you know, there is a method to our madness under Klopp. Everything is by design. Feel better?

It works. We used to do it when I played Sunday league. If you have a proper cf (like firmino, looks like a boxer up close) anything can happen.
We are comfortable in defence, our shape is solid and extremely hard to break through. And like people have said, our quick and skillful wingers feed off of 2nd balls. And our athletic midfield can win the ball back and fight for 2nd balls.
And it's mot just hoofed. It's usually vvd or hendo and they aim for either mane or salah.

And also when you line up at KO the opposition are perfectly set up and organised, if you play around the back they will have easy route to press and close you down. It's very difficult to realistically play through and create danger from that situation and it's easy to be put under pressure and get caught out.

It's not just us, very common kick off routine.

I remember a kick off I think it was fowler and collymore where they both just tapped it to each other then sprinted towards the defence doing 1/ 2s and I think they got a shot off as well. but more of that we could do with 🤣🤣.

Berger, is this a serious question? Rule changed mate.

Basically what everyone else said, get us up the pitch. In terms of negative tactics from kickoff, nothing beats everton at anfield last year or year before, just booting the ball into the kop from the kickoff.
