bit bitter and ironic to make comments about SImeone, given Klopp has done similar these past few years and has been applauded for his passion.

Anyways, said elsewhere, but I was so glad we got Athletico. Mainly because imo, the present the supreme version of the style of football that has been our achilles heel for most of Klopp's tenure. They invite us forward, sit deep, defend in numbers and we need to attack with nuance, little touches and so forth. It is a great challenge that I think will be a massive indicator of our progression under Klopp. Knock these guys off and then it's all again.

{Ed001's Note - when has Klopp told his players to dive and go down holding their faces? Klopp is nothing like Simeone.}

I can to disagree more with the above comment respect but have to disagree I have never ever heard any manager or player accuse a klopp managed team to resort to the antics we saw yesterday from Madrid and nope we lost bcoz we lost not bcoz of antics.

Klopp is like Simeone? Do explain. In what way? Style of play? Strategy? And when has Klopp parked the bus (ever) in a game?

ok, so most of the comments I've seen here and other places online have been mocking how Simeone was more of a crowd conductor, waving his arms about firing up the crowd. that's what I meant.

Well, what you have read is not absolutely wrong. Klopp jumps up and down while preaching a correct, positive and fair style and strategy of playing football to his team. We saw no such thing from Simeone's team. Have you ever seen Klopp applaud his own player after committing a foul? Klopp is not a "win at all costs" type of guy. Simeone is. And that's what most of us didn't like about Simeone last night.

Let’s just hope we don’t get Spanish leaning officials at Anfield in the return leg. Don’t get me wrong we lost because we were poor and we don’t seem to be as convincing as we once were but the external factors did not help. 4-4-2 formations seem to be the antithesis of our style, any team that has a decent enough squad of players that play this formation have a real chance of getting something against us, particularly away from home (Napoli, United and now Atletico) . I have this urge to want us to play the away leg as soon as possible but I think we need momentum. These breaks always seem to do a number on us, which Klopp hasn’t seem to decipher yet. We need a run of fixtures which we will get before we play them again, I hope we make use of that and get the players right up to speed, because we’ll need 2-3 goals at Anfield and it rarely ever happens against Atletico even as bad as they’ve been this season. We need to blitz them, but are we still capable of doing that? I almost feel like that’s been conditioned out of the team, we need to be methodical and just hope we don’t concede because I can’t see us going gung ho anymore. Always knew this was a tough tie and not the one I wanted, but I think if we get through this, we have a real chance of going all the way, as these are probably the biggest threat to our style in a two legged tie.

I agree Kman92, I've been watching a lot of games recently from around Europe and have seen nothing to suggest we can't give the big teams a good pasting, as long as we play better and with a little more creativity than yesterday.

The likes of Real, Barca, Bayern, PSG all look to have defences that can be taken to bits.

=========================================
Speak for yourself . I did not like him because we lost, he managed a team that beat us . he was jumping up and down like a clown . I know Klop do the same, but he is ours and he is allowed .

Have you ever seen Klopp applaud his own player after committing a foul?

Must say a mad manager that will do that on the touch line .

In all honesty, I never saw us winning the champions league again this year. We've made 2 finals in a row. Just basic numbers says it's unlikely that we'll win it again.

And let's be honest, if we pick up the league title this will be an extremely successful season.

Don't mean to sound defeatist, I still think we'll go through this one although it'll be tight I think.

Robbiesline, I've got a surprise for you. You are definitely sounding defeatist, LOL. Sure numbers count but they are not everything. Opinions count also and I stress "learned" opinions. It's not for nothing that we are being called "the best team in the World" at the present moment, in some quarters. Just look at the competition and the format. The UCL is supposed to be the cream of the cream. And it's a two leg result that counts every time (except the final) . It's only half time. And judging from reactions, our boys are more than pissed off about it. So I expect some payback with interest. Keep the faith. Believe.

Cheers aray. I know it sounds defeatist. Watching the ucl again reminded me of the toll it takes on teams. It's the type of competition that could see you lose mane, firmino and van djike to injury. I'd love us to win it of course. And if we'd won 2 0 I'd probably be posting about how we're going to do the double. I think it's going to be really tough now. Athletic got exactly what they wanted, a clean sheet and a goal. They may park the bus but they can also play when they want to. It's going to be tough. I think we'll go through. If I was betting I'd bet on us going through. But do I see us going all the way?

Okay. It took me a while but I've finally gotten it. You're beginning to sound like NegativeRedWalter, LOL.

Give it up, man. Walter is a class apart and you can't unseat him.

We're going to beat Atletico and with some luck we'll do it resoundingly without any doubts in anybody's head. And I'm confident we'll make it to the Final too (I have to be, otherwise what's the point of all this? ) .

I'm confused. You need a game against Atletico Madrid to show you the progress we have made under Klopp? Being European and World Champions and 25 points clear at top of the league isn't enough for you?

13.) 19 Feb 2020
19 Feb 2020 20:48:05
Spot on, Thunderbird 2. What a crock of stuff I am reading here. OP, what does "this game will show how far we have progressed under Klopp" even mean? Have you been asleep the past 2 years? LFC have damaged near EVERY parked bus they have come up against in Europe or in the {PL and just cos we played poorly and lost a game, you and a couple more come on here acting like geniuses trying to lecture us from your soap boxes cos Klopp did not win a game against a parked bus, he's suddenly lost his touch?

We lost a game. You may not realize this but that can happen. We played poorly. Also, that can happen. It has nothing to do with Simeone's or Klopp's antics or some barometer to measure how far we have come cos we could not win a freaking game of football. It has nothing to do with any of that. We lost a game. Get over it and move on and you and Kman92 need to spare us the righteous indignation. It's not that serious.

thunderbird / redmesiter, I feel embarrassed to have to break this down, because I thought I explained this clear enough in my OP. here goes :

1) Athletico, imo, present the supreme version of the style of football that has been our achilles heel for most of Klopp's tenure.

2) They invite us forward, sit deep, defend in numbers and we need to attack limited space with nuance, little touches, creativity and so forth.

3) Whilst Athletico aren't the Godin vintage, they still have the same personality and fighting spirit of a Burnley on Steroids.

4) Our own fans up until about midway last season complained and complained about how we need to buy a #10 to break down teams that park the bus

5) If, and when, we knock Athletico off, for me it will be a massive indicator of our progression of a team for all occasions.

and tbh I don't care what you guys say hahahaha I confidently can look back at the last 3 years backing Klopp and this project no doubt the whole way through. So am very satisfied to see him doing well today.

I know exactly what you mean faithinworks. You're right. Bring us a man City with their free flowing football and we'll dispatch them. A man utd or athletic madrid, who have some good players and sit deep, are the teams we struggle with. And I think if we brush athletico aside it will show that we are the complete team. And losing hendo is massive. He's been our best player.

17.) 21 Feb 2020
21 Feb 2020 04:40:01
Most teams we play adobt the exact same plan as atletico did, only difference is that atletico have very good players and the best team at playing that way. 11 clean sheets in last 13 home CL games says enough. We've proved we can break down stubborn defences every week and 1 game does not prove any issues in that regard especially away to the best team around in playing that tactic.

Har_red - yes, so Athletico are 'that' style on steroids is the point.
