This is for ed1

I love firmino and all he does for the team he truly is unselfish and is just a joy to watch but now we are more a team that dominates possession rather than counter attacking (early klopp era) do u think we need more of a finisher up top rather than someone bringing others in to play as I don't think We have a deadly finisher in the team . Or do you think some real competition for firmino place could bring out More from him . Let's face it origi works hard and scored some important goals for us but he's used from the left nowadays and isn't ever gunna start over firmino if fit?

{Ed001's Note - quite the opposite, we need someone all the more with his ability to find space and operate under close marking. He can wriggle through where there are no gaps.}

What Bobby does is not replaceable.

Having a player that is not a natural goalscorer playing up front is the price we pay for having Firmino. I was initially againts this and thought we would be better with Bobby as an AM, but he allows Salah, Mane and evening our midfield to thrive when they do get foward. I’m sure it will cost us on occasion but on the whole it is worth it. The only way to improve on Bobby would be to replace him with someone who does the same but scores more goals. This all said he’s averaging what around 15 per season, similar assists and had a great year with nearly 30 two years back? Even without his all round play which is vital to us he still has the numbers of a top player.

wow, I'm amazed this is still a thought given how this team have performed the last 2 and two third seasons.

Firmino is part of the spine of the team, and he simply cannot be replaced without changing so many things in the way we play. Salah and Mané wouldn't score as many without him, because he always moves away from the center and drags players with him, so allowing the front 2 to come in and shoot. He drives the ball forward from midfield. He is the first line of defense with his pressing. Yes, there are CF's that will score more goals, but how many can do everything else that he does? Bringing in a Werner makes sense, but then he will have to change the way he plays. Otherwise we'll often have our front 3 crowding each other out.

If we lay a possession game teams will be more likely to have men behind the ball
In this situation- if you have a CF who is a “goal scorer” and is in the box all the time- they won’t be creating space for others.

Lots of our goals this season have been from a pass over the CB’s into a wide player running into the centre.
Everyone focussed on the quality of the pass, and on the quality of the run.

One thing missing - the quality of Firmino’s movement.

Salah and Mane would be bummed to find out they are not natural finishers :)

We could sign Messi Mbappe Ronaldo and 25year old Pele. But we could only ever be 2 points better off than this current LFC team.

OP, IMO the only CF out there who can do everything Bobbie can do to some extent and still score loads more goals is the legendary Robert Lewandowski. He ain't coming through that Anfield door anytime soon. Oh, I wonder what both these brilliant players have in common? Oh yeah, they were both created by a certain Jurgen Klopp.

As Ed said, our system works to a T and it's not as if Bobbie can't hit a barn door. We need players just like him who can do the exact things he is able to do cos I will always disagree with having a "natural goalscorer" who is a complete waste of space when he can't score goals in a game.

Bobbie even tho not scoring, is a defensive and creative option and actually more devastating as a facilitator than let's say, an off form Harry Kane who at times, can be of no use to you if he is not scoring. Just my opinion.

Great reply’s lads

I brought this up as I have been hearing lots about signing another striker and it made me think what do others think of this . Also ed2 mentined klopp wantibgbto sign Werner as a firmino replacement last week . I also think Salahs finishing could be better as with firmino but not questioning them as players and what they bring to the table . Everyone in that team can get even better which is frightening.

In my above post I am not criticising Bobby at all. I'm well aware that he's incredibly important to the way we play and far more difficult to replace than most of the others in our team. What I'm saying is that at some point his wastefulness in front of goal will cost us. i. e. his miss againts Norwich. Yes we won and deservedly so, but at some point a miss like that will cost us the win or cause us to lose. All im saying is that a proper goalscorer scores that 99/ 100. With Bobby, as much as I love him and realise that we need him, I'm less confident he will finish even the more simple chances that fall to him.
