Hi Ed's,

apologies not plucking names out of a hat, but i know a while ago we were looking at Malang Sarr as an option at the back.

i have noticed that his contract is running out this summer, do you think he hasn't kicked on to be worth having another look?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool sent scouts to watch Malang Sarr a couple of years or so ago. There has been nothing since then.}

thanks ed! wasn't trying to pick random names, but with him being a left sided CB and can cover LB and out of contract wasn't sure if we had come back to look at him.

{Ed002's Note - I would expect a new contract to be agreed. Nice has a young side and a very good owner who will take advice on the squad - and indeed management.}

i guess following on from that what are your views on viera as a manager?

i know like you say that have a young talented squad but don't seem to be seeing the results come through.

{Ed002's Note - Ligue 1 is tight this year but the results have been average. The club is coming out of a difficult period under the previous owners - who appointed Vieira after Lucien Favre left. Even though they had gotten to the CL under Favre it has dropped away since then - hence the upcoming assessment. There was a lot of bad feelings about the previous owners and players were far from happy but with the very likable Jim Ratcliffe buying the club that seems to have turned around. Vieira does know his limitations and pushed for Gilles Grimandi to join him after the morons at Arsenal fired him. Gilles is heading up the transfer work and has gotten two very highly rated players to join (Kasper Dolberg and Alexis Claude-Maurice), cleared the decks and got the scouts focussed. All of this has left Vieira to push on with the coaching - and his expertise is very much in the area of working with younger players who are willing to learn. So for now it is wait and see but if they don't make the Europa League there will no doubt be disappointment. But a good Sporting Director in Gilles and with a very good owner it is looking good going forward.}

You may or may not want to answer this, Ed002, given it's too early in his career. But do you see Vieira as a competent manager?

{Ed002's Note - Sure but he needs the right support - the key is working with youngsters.}

I think that's the mark of a good manager. Not just to know and be aware of their own capabilities and limitations, but to willingly bring in people who are good at what they lack and work with them.
