ed001 I know its hard to compare players but Gomez and Van Dijk. At the same age Van Dijk was playing for Celtic. So how good do you think Joe can become for us because am sure big Virgil was not playing at Joe's level at that age and he did not have someone like himself to learn from because I would say Joe is back to his very best again.

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult to say what level Virgil was playing at because he was not being pushed to perform at his best. In fact it is difficult to say how good he is now, because he is making it seem so easy.

Gomez, on the other hand, still has a lot to learn, he looks better because he is rectifying his own mistakes a lot of the time. If he was positioned better, as Virgil usually is, there is no need to make a challenge or block. Gomez is playing well, but I can't compare him with the van Dijk who played in Scotland, he is not making it look easy yet. When he has reached Virgil's level, it seems effortless.}

I've got a pal who is Celtic home and away season ticket holder, he is very knowledgable. He told me VVD made is debut for Celtic coming off the bench at St Johnstone and in about 15 minutes he just knew this guy won't be at Celtic long . He seen the class and composure straight away .

Has to be remembered that Joe is still only 22 so he's still developing. And for me Joe's best game this season happened without Virgil beside him against Everton.

Can't really compare when the Scottish league has been so poor for ages, I remember Van Dijk literally just strolling 80 yards through the opposition with the ball at his feet and then putting it into the back of the net without breaking a sweat!

I too have a mate who's a Celtic fan and he was banging on about Van Dijk all the time. So I wouldn't say that Van Dijk wasn't performing at Joe's age at all.
