Why are the Italians thinking? At worst they need a new policy and marketing advisor!

After reading the artist's justification behind it, I can almost understand where he was coming from (and he has exclusively painted monkeys for about 6 years, so that's obviously his go-to move), but the decision making by the Italians behind it has to be questioned. Whatever their reasons, they have to have known that the public opinion would not be good.

Ah Jaysus, I swear they're doing it on purpose.

It obviously hasn't been thought out properly and is definitely counter-productive towards putting an end to racism.

I can see the thought process though. The monkey at the top has blue eyes, the middle one has brown eyes and the bottom one has eyes like someone of oriental dissent. But regardless of their eye colour, they're all the same: they're all monkeys. Which in theory, it works.

The problem lies in that black people have been portrayed as monkeys for such a long time and that portrayal is still strong amongst racists. Surely, this could have been an effective campaign if they'd just chosen another animal?

There seems to be a lot of ridiculous stuff coming out of Italian football right now.
From players saying that ethnic players "asked for it" when monkey chants were ringing out in stadia, to this hilariously stupid move.

It is so tone deaf from Serie A it is almost beggars belief. Part of me wonders if it was almost deliberate given Italian footballs reluctance to address pretty much any racist incident.

Ed, cheers for that. The racism poster? How has this not been a bigger story than it is?

If you read the artist’s explanation it’s actually quite a good concept. We know that human beings evolved from primates. So he is addressing the chants head on and saying, we all come from primates! Very creative how they express the different ways in which we all evolved. The top ape has the blue eyes and lighter skin; the middle one the dark skin with brown eyes, and the bottom one represents the Asian community.

I believe it to be an all inclusive, reality reminder, to those who make these chants, that we are all ancestors on the ape family.
I believe that it is only seen as racist, by those looking to take offence at any opportunity.

The only complaint i have is that the Italian fa should not use it, mainly because they need to not attract any controversy.
However on its stand alone, I appreciate the art work and concept.

As a stand alone art work perhaps it makes sense, but as the leading image in an anti-racism campaign? Come on man, monkey chants are one of the most common manifestations of racism, how they thought this was a good idea I do not know.
