John Barnes said in Feb 2018 in a certain "fast" paper. Firmino is not a good enough cf and needs to drop back for someone to score goals. Because Mane and Salah are not going to consistently score as they are not finishers.
Has he made any counter claims to this recently?
I love how wrong Firmino has made everyone including myseld look. Who need ls Pipco when does Firmino get a statue!

He’s playing great at the moment but c’mon lads and lasses, get some perspective a bit here. It was Newcastle at home, look at the stats and see the amount of goals we’ve put past them in the PL era alone.
Anyone who has watched Kenny and Peter Beardsley play, will delight in Firmino but, at the same time, he’s not in either’s class yet IMO.
We’ve proved he’s not indispensable but I do fully agree that when he plays well, Liverpool purr.

I thought last season Bobby was far from his best but this season he has been are stand out player in the first 5 games he for me is are best player with VVD and does not get the credit he deserves when he does have a bad game we do not look the same side. And I did Watch Kenny and Beardsley and he is not up there with Kenny but I would put him on a par with Beardsley.

Well Beardsley was more of twinkle toes as he dribbled past players, Bobby is the main cog drawing defenders out of position to give Mané and mo space to run into, then bobby little flicks and passes split the defence, IMO the position bobby plays in nobody is as good as him. we proved for few games we can cope if he out but not sure over long period we would cope without him, and it don’t matter who the opponent is as you still got to perform at that level, quite few times big players don’t perform against the so called lesser teams as they think it will be a walk over, just give credit where credit is due as he is on 🔥 atm.

Bobby is in a category of. if you understand what he does he's amazing if you look at him compared to the likes of aguero you will never see his talent and always find fault we have a few players in that bracket hendo is another one.

Cmon, give the kid a break. You can't start dragging him into comparisons with the King. Last year Bobby was average at times but this season he looks a beast and has gone up a level. Bring on the Azzurri.

Juicer, come on, get real, bobby is majestic. So good, it is a delight to watch him grace the pitch. Some of the football we played yesterday was sublime.

As soon as they showed how NUFC beat spurs, and a 5/ 4/ 1 set up, I knew it would take Bobbie's genius to open them up.

OP, John Barnes made that statement comparing him with the normal, orthodox CF's we have all come to be accustomed to. As I have said before if you make that comparison then you are missing the complete point and missing what Bobbie actually does and brings to the table. If goals is all you've got to compare him w/ o considering his other abilities that benefit the team as a whole then it says a lot more about you as an analyst than it does about Bobbie's ability as a footballer.

Juicer, I see your point BUT Bobbie has been on fire since the Charity Shield where he was ripping the City CB's (ironically, the same pathetic lot that Norwich ripped up last night) and were it not for some hard luck, Bobbie would have scored the goals of the season already with that chest control and volley vs Cit and Norwich, on the turn. NUFC being the oppo. on the day, makes NO diff. Bobbie is doing this to everyone.

Didn't Mane score a very good goal before Bobby came on?

It is a fact Bobby was well off pace last season. Liverpool won number 6 and Bobby didn't play in the semi's and never touched the ball in the final. So Liverpool are far from this one man team many of you would have us beleive. As juicer said when Bobby plays like he is atm we look a better team, but there were zero Bobby threads last season. Let's hope he keeps it going but let's keep perspective.

I know Bobby has came back after summer vacations sluggish before, as if has hasn't kept his condition or has just had too long without football, but I think being active in the summer with Brazil, and coming back quite late, has helped him start the season well and in form. His quality has never been in question but he has been off the pace at the beginning of seasons before - not this one, he has looked sharp from the off and, as he always is when on form, integral to our game.

Good point that Seano, maybe the fact he didn't play at the end of last season but then played during the summer means he is fresh but still in a good rythum. In 2017/ 18 he started on fire and kept it going for most of the season. Last year he started slow and never really got to full speed, except isolated games.

Spot on, Seano. Like I said, Bobbie is doing this to everyone regardless of the opposition. He is playing like a man possessed, eager to take that next step to be universally recognized as a WC footballer, not just CF.

Some people’s (normally other fans) measurement of how good Firmino is drives me mad. The other day I was listening to a radio debate where they were saying he wasn’t all that basing it purely on goals scored - this got me so wound up I decided to do some quick research.

Taking Kane as an example - if you remove his goals from penalties (as Firmino doesn’t take our pens) and look at his goal involvement (goals + assists) it’s nearly identical to Firmino’s goal involvement and they’ve played a similar number of league games! (1 goal or assist every 2 games, roughly)

Obviously Firmino has far more assists - in fact his goals and assist number are only about 10 off each other.

I never would’ve expected this to be honest - but maybe creates a clearer perspective for those that rate one because he scores so many, but not the other because apparently he isn’t ‘prolific enough’ 🤦‍♂️.

MrSox, the "he isn't prolific enuff argument" is a dead argument in today's football cos most CF's of today are now being required to do a bit of what Bobbie is doing. Even Southgate and Poch are asking Kane to do a bit more in this regard. So the guy these people like to compare him with, is actually being told to do what Bobbie is doing. Maybe both managers no a bit more than these "experts" do. Just saying.

{Ed001's Note - Poch isn't asking Kane to do that, Kane wants to do it, he likes to play deeper and provide hence why he chose the number 10 to play in.}
