Read a lot recently about JK ending his time with LFC when his current contract ends in 2022. A lot of people predicting the "natural successor" will be Stevie G but I personally think Xabi Alonso has a decent chance. I know Real Sociedad B are top of a "reserves" league but there are a lot of very positive comments about Xabi and his coaching.
Interested to know who would most peoples pick would be to replace JK if choosing now or for 2022 based on current potential?

If Lucien Favre was younger, I would've liked us to consider him a top candidate. As it is, Julian Nagelsmann would be my pick.

Xabi was always the one who looked like he’d make a great coach/ manager.
Reina would always ask him about the opposition penalty takers etc as Xabi had files on all the players!

That was Xavi Valero not Xabi Alonso! He was the goalkeeping coach.

I always thought carra would have given it a go. I was told he had potential to be a brilliant manager might be a load of b*llocks but just what someone told me.

{Ed025's Note - yeah but if his team lost he would probably spit at his opposition manager instead of a handshake berg...dirty filthy animal..

I don't think it'll be either Stevie nor Xabi unless they show that they have the same tactical style as our team currently plays. And by that I mean that they actually do it with their own teams for a couple of years.

I think that the club will not look to change the direction in tactical terms as to how we play and will bring in another manager with a decent record with the same way of playing as Klopp.

If someone really sees themselves as a future Liverpool manager, they should start adapting their style now to be in with a shot. At least they've got a deadline to work towards, whether Klopp takes a sabatical or not.

A resergant Jose Mourinho to win the league in his 1st season. Could get 3 years of chaos with him but a league title non the less.

NRW. Please no. If we haven't won the league by then, the last thing we need is for someone to make us regress 10 years. Just look at the mess he left United in.

He might win the league but he'd sign a handful of expensive 30+ year olds to do it then leave when they can't hack it anymore.

Also what's the opinion on a return of raffa in 2022 if klopp does in fact take a sabbatical maybe he deserves a do over after reading ed1's article on the h&g days he could have won us the league if he got the players he asked for instead of the bargain basement oprions.

It was pretty mingin ed. but your reply did make me laugh do you think Neville's flop in spain stopped any thoughts of carra going into management or was he never intrested.

{Ed025's Note - i think hes more suited to media work myself berg, im sure he would have options if he ever decided management was for him but i cant see it mate..

Jurgen will stay on as long as his wife and family are on board with it.

There is nowhere better for him and football is in his blood.

After Shanks and Bob we will have Jurgen.

Three of the best managers in the history of the game.

Enjoy the ride.

Plenty of time to come Klopp or kidnap his pets to get him to sign an extension.

He's just about reaching his half way mark. What's the hurry? I think it all depends on whether he achieves his goals or not. If he wins a couple of EPL titles then he's on course for his plan for a sabbatical. But if he doesn't win an EPL title or two then I would not be surprised with an extension for a year or two. Yes he's left his previous clubs after 7 years in the past, but we're not exactly robots that thrive on endless repetition of past activities.

OP, Xabi Alonso like SG, are not ready to take up the job at LFC esp. at the level we are at now. This is no longer the "Let's give x manager a chance to prove himself" time at LFC anymore. That time ended when BR got the sack.

As for Carra, Ed25 is correct (not about the spitting part) BUT he too, is not ready and frankly, I think he would be a terrible manager so being a pundit (a genius after the fact, really) suits him just like his other loser of a manager next to him at Sly, Gary Neville.

Like Zpecialone said, Lucien Favre or Julian Naggelsmann would be my pick cos they play a near similar style to Klopp. Either way, I will just sit back and enjoy the time we have left with Good Ol' "Norbert" and hope he can win the league and get his statue at Anfield and then get the farewell a true legend deserves.

Hard to pick now who might be a suitable as much will change in the next few years. Alonso and Gerrard would need to prove their capabilities in that time to be an option as currently it would be a big risk. Xabi is interesting to see how he might fare, seems to have a good football brain which is crucial.

I think Milner might make a good coach one day, is a strong voice in the dressing room, a model professional who works hard in every detail of preparation and his vast experience and knowledge of playing at the highest level in numerous positions under so many different managers each with different styles will have given him a good understanding of tactical ideas.

I agree with one of the responses that it has to be someone who wants to play the same as we do now. If any of them truly want the LFC job when klopp goes, I'd love klopp to make it clear in a year, year and a half, that he will be leaving and whether it be Gerrard, Alonso or whoever else, worked as klopps assistant or shadow him rather, for a year and a half and then take the reigns from there, continuing what klopp has started. In an ideal world though I'd love klopp to sign til 2030.

From Stevie g to alonso to Rafa! Get a grip for! I nvr want to see any near the club for at least 10 years and proven! Stevie f#%#%in G if he had balls he’d go the championship and see his worth if he thinks he’s anyright to manage us he’d want to wake up!

Like all reds i was deeply in love with gerrard. But you have to be careful with sentiment when making big decisions. If we were a team aiming to finish 4th, europa league team i would be happy to give stevie the job. But as it stands (and things change) he hasn't proved himself to be one of the outstanding young managers in the game. I do think he'll get there and i would like him to manage us. If i had to choose now, i would pick poch from spurs. I think he's a great manager.

Id rather be spat at than punched. Look, its not very nice but there's only so much abuse a man can take. Footballers live a privileged life but they take a lot of rubbish for just playing a game. Im not defending jamie for it, i just don't think it defines the man, that he spat at someone. I think hed make a great coach, but if he's making money without the stress then good for him. I quite like him and neville on sky, like the banter.

Agreed Robbiesline. Being the main guy at a multi-million dollar business like a football club is no joke. If you're going to show thin skin and feel threatened enough by a child in a car, it shows a lot more beneath the surface. If you can't take the hot seat with poise and calm character, you don't belong there.

Lol ed01😂
I wouldn’t mind having Valero back as gk coach either, Pepe wasn’t happy when he left.
Is he still with West Ham? I guess he’s worked with Adrian before.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what he is doing right now but he was excellent.}

In respect of Valero - I heard that his family still live in Merseyside and it was the reason he moved back to the UK with West Ham.

This was gone over in another thread a few weeks back but still interesting. let's face it, we have tried to with both playing a managerial staff to give upcoming talent/ potential a chance to succeed on the big stage and it hasn't worked. When we buy/ employ proven quality and winners? Guess what we're back in the big time and were narrowly beaten to the title by only 1 point by another quality side.

However comes in when JK leaves, whenever that may be, absolutely must be proven winner of the highest quality. Im talking winning big competitions. a lot can chnage in 3 years though and its difficult to name names ATM as honestly I wouldn't swap Klopp for anyone. I certainly can't see SG being the man to take over though.

In a couple years time, let's play devil's advocate and assume that Klopp leaves a club that is at its peaking and competing on all four fronts. Doesn't sound like a project, but more like a perfect situation for an experienced manager to come in and keep things moving. arise Jose Mourinho. :)

(Ed025's Note - yeah but if his team lost he would probably spit at his opposition manager instead of a handshake berg. dirty filthy animal. )

It would just go to show Ed, no matter how hard LFC tried and how long he played for LFC, Carra always kept that little bit of Bitters deep inside him.

Tally Ho.

{Ed025's Note - it would not matter to me if he was an evertonian, liverpudlian or a mongolian petro chemist polecat, spitting is deplorable and the most insulting act any human being can do to another, in fact i would rather be punched in the kipper than spat at mate, i happened to like carra actually because he was a local lad done well and i like that, but you can take the lad out the gutter but you cant take the gutter out of the lad unfortunately..
