ed001 and ed002 would like both of your views if possible thanks. Just seen a report that Klopp might be hinting at leaving when his contract ends in 3 years that would make it 7years like his other 2 jobs. He did not say that just that if he needs a break he will go so with that if he does not sign a new contract within the next year or so I do think his time will come to an end then. If that is the case will the club be looking at a new manger soon to plan ahead. my be Steven Gerrard don't know if he is the long term plan if so do you think in Klopp's last year he might come back to the club to work with Klopp so the transition is smooth like in are best era.

{Ed001's Note - I hope not. I would much rather we just looked at who is best suited to the role, rather than who once played for the club. Gerrard might well be the right man, but let's wait and see. Personally I would say Pep Lijnders is more of a smooth transition choice if that is the route to go down.}

I'm not a massive fan of Stevie's work so far in Scotland. Buys way too many players every summer, always complaining. I don't like how he criticizes the players. And Scotland results is not a good judge.

Lijnders is my second choice for sure.
First being Klopp signing a lifetime contract with no holidays.

It's almost traumatising to think about. If it has to happen, I would personally want Lijnders to take over. A lot can happen in 3 years, but I think Stevie needs experience in a more competitive league, maybe even abroad, before he's ready.

Julian Nagelsmann for me!

Davey Sulls, I can partially agree on other aspects of Gerrard's management, but he's signing so many players because he has to, to bridge the gap to Celtic.

You have to remember that Rangers were a lower league side for years and are only now starting to get near to Celtic.

Disaster when it happens. Enjoy the Now! You knew it was the beggining of the end when all rumours of a new contract after the final didn't materialise.

Epic Potato
20 signings in his first season
10 signings this season with more to follow.

Plenty of loans but that is bloody crazy no matter what the situation.

Hope god it’s not Gerard! He’s in a Mickey Mouse league try slug it out in the championship see how he gets on! Monda.

If the worst did happen then it has to be Pepe Lijnders. As for Stevie still not enough experience. Also have to agree with Davey a lifetime contract with no holiday's.

For me like I have said before I hope never to see Steve Gerrard as Liverpool manager
I woould hope to have the current dortmund manager if klopp was to leave tomorrow but 3 years is a very long time and if we are then as we are now we will have our pick of anyone in world football other then pep.

Another vote against Gerrard. What a step down that would be.

Klopp is currently one of the best managers in the world. I don't see Gerrard ever reaching that level.

I don't think Fsg would be daft enough to consider Gerrard unless he does something really special in the next few years which is very unlikely. I think there is as little chance of them considering Lijnders either, which, for me would be the correct decision.

I don't know the statistics and I could easily be wrong but my impression is that there are more famous ex-players who flopped at coaching/ management than those who have succeeded. It's also my impression that it's actually average or less than average players who have excelled at coaching (Guardiola and Klopp immediately come to mind) . Given the financial and social importance professional sports teams have nowadays, the last thing I would do is to appoint team management based entirely on nostalgia and a misguided sense of romanticism.

If Gerrard wants the Anfield top job then let him topple Celtic first, win some titles over there and then come back to the EPL and do a good job with another team too. Then we'll know. Kicking 30 yard screamers into the net some years ago as a player for LFC, shouldn't automatically qualify you for team management some years later.

{Ed025's Note - and having the personality of an ice cube does,nt help ArAy..

I remember reading that when Dalglish needed a break after all the emotional energy used up after Hillsborough, the club wouldn’t give him a sabbatical and went with a permanent appointment (Souness? ) .

I absolutely love Klopp. Please don’t be making the same mistake. We can put in a caretaker if and when he needs a break. Frankly I wouldn’t even care if the whole team took off a year. It would be heart breaking to see Klopp anywhere else apart from Liverpool.

All very pointless speculation.
FSG have put some good people in place at the club now to make decisions such as this, they’ve barely put a foot wrong for the past 3 or 4 years, and so I think we’re much better placed to move ahead after Klopp when the time comes.

LOL Ed025. Are you suggesting a job in Sweden or Norway then? (I advise caution with your response, before the "red-tinted specs" and "deluded" brigade gather around you in a flash mob, LOL) .

{Ed025's Note - im suggesting a job where the people around him dont mind being bored ArAy...are their any stewards jobs going at anfield mate?.. :)

Personally, I would not want Gerrard anywhere near Liverpool when Klopp eventually leaves us. No way! He is not ready to take up what is right now and hopefully when Klopp leaves, the biggest job in club football. Maybe he will come good later BUT for right now, the whole "he was a club legend" stuff is a non starter for me. He needs to go prove himself in a better league with better opposition and better players.

After all, Klopp had to prove himself from Mainz in the German lower division to CL Champion and LFC legend. If we have learnt anything from the disaster that plagued KK's return or the dross that OGS is serving up at Utd, we must learn that these "club legend" types for the most part, are terrible managers.

Like Ed01, I want the best guy for the job and hopefully, there will be great candidates we can choose from (Lucian Favre, Naggelsmann, etc) and I would not mind Pep Ljinders cos he would have been by Klopp the whole time and the players would definitely respect him and willing to work for and with him cos he has been there and done that.

Don’t want Jurgen to make the same mistake as a Shankly and retire too soon.

Happy for him to take a break and come back fresh.

He could maybe get the league won in January 2022 then take February to June off and come back for pre season.

Klopp can build a new side in 3 years or so when this side will be in need of some refreshing.

Lets all worry about it if it happens like always enjoy the situation it is at the moment we’re very strong side with good players and great man manager just soak it up
Up the pool.

3 years is a long time in football. Funny how people say Gerrard should gain experience first etc who's to say in the next 3 years he won't? I don't particularly care at this stage what names are thrown about as they mean absolutely nothing.

20.) 27 Aug 2019
27 Aug 2019 09:22:01
geez some people are realyl quick to slag off stevie. I mean I'm not a fan, but in 3 years time who knows? If he is the best available or comparable to whoever else is available then he would be the best option imo.

{Ed025's Note - he would certainly be my preferred option faith.. :)

21.) 28 Aug 2019
27 Aug 2019 23:11:29
3 years is impossible to say who will or won't be best fit. Gerrard can only be the right choice if he proves his credentials in that time and if not, legend or not he shouldn't be put in charge on merit alone. United and Chelsea currently have 2 ex players with zero managerial credentials to warrant their role. We've seen shearer at Newcastle, Henry at Monaco, di matteo at Chelsea, dalglish 2nd Liverpool spell were all hired despite no proof they were capable of the job. Someone like ljinders might learn a lot under klopp and Gerrard might succeed in rangers and come to PL and have success to warrant the huge Liverpool job but without those guys proving their worth you have to hire the best manager for the job whether he's a Scouser or Japanese.

22.) 28 Aug 2019
28 Aug 2019 02:54:30
I feel like Pep Ljinders is a career assistant manager.

also di matteo won the champions league

I am sure they'll weigh everything up. Like it is a dream that Klopp is a great manager / coach AND has the character / personality that is a perfect match for Liverpool FC and the city.

Stevie, with slightly lesser credentials than other options could simply be a better fit because the overall fit of him at the club and city outweigh another candidate who has the credentials y'know?

Anyway, this is really ages away hahaha Klopp might go on a barren run like he did in his final year at dortmund and be gone sooner lol.

I see Gerrard as another Souness moment waiting to happen. If and when Klopp goes, it has to go to the best man for the job, not be based on some kind of sentimental nepotism.

The worrying thing about klopp maybe leaving in 3 years is that most of the key players are around 26/ 27 meaning he would leave just as the team is in need of a major rebuild. I would hope that he would look to leave the future nice and rosey before he leaves and spends the next few windows looking at players that might be peaking in 2 or 3 years around that potential date.
