I didn’t get to see the game yesterday but by all accounts it seemed another average performance.

Whilst I’d admit we haven’t clicked yet this season you have to admire the ability to grind results. Although yesterday was a lot more tense after Adrians gift.

We have had four games in the opening two weeks and come out with positive in three of them, and lost on the lottery of pens in the other without clicking, I think that’s a very good return.

But next week is going to be the acid test, our first game of the season with a weeks preparation against a team with top four aspirations should give us a better indication of what to expect in the coming months. Also with a week to prepare I think it’ll be the first game with Klopps first choice 11 barring the keeper.

I think with all things considered it actually was a decent performance overall. Southampton away isn’t a guaranteed 3 points for anyone, and if you take away the error it wasn’t actually an uncomfortable win at all.

I think the chances being worked up by the front 3 is very promising - with slightly better finishing Liverpool get 5 in that game and no one mentions the performance at all.

I think the team are actually looking better 2 games (or 4 I guess?! ) in this season than that many last time around (I recall everyone being concerned about Mo and the front 3 not creating chances) .

Next weekend should be a great game for the neutrals if nothing else!

The first half yesterday was a battle. Southampton packed their midfield and played a back three at times, denied our forwards barely any chances.
But Liverpool get stronger the longer games go on now. I’ve noticed a lot of use of in-game nutrition, energy gels, Bobby was gesticulating for a tablet of some kind lol, what was that, salt?

Yeah Juicer. I was wondering the same thing. It looked like a mentos to me. He threw the first one the staff passed to him. Maybe it wasn't the flavour that he was asking.

You also have to remember that Southampton's keep played a blinder. He made some absolutely cracking saves.

We only got stronger to the 80th minute, we could have very easily considered, ings had two clear opportunities, one of which was an open goal.

People were waiting for us to click all the way to madrid last season. We changed our gung ho approach to a more measured style. We are unbeaten, top of the league. Last season we ground out a hell of a lot of wins.

I think mane is a brilliant player, he's world class but i think a super confident mane is balon dor level. Maybe next year.

More importantly it was the 3rd game in a week we played (one going to 120 mins) whilst we’re still building up match sharpness.

Any win is a fantastic result.

I thought we were leggy early on but after Mane scored we opened them up twice comfortably with Mo and Bobby missing chances they really should be taking.

Overall i thought was a decent performance and a great result at a tough place to get a result. We didn't get much preparation time in for this game with Chelsea in the super cup midweek. For instance the game finished on Wednesday at 1am local time in intense heat, then to come back Thursday and try rest and also prepare for Southampton. We always seem to start the season slow and gain momentum, so im not too worried. Its good that Adrian made his mistake and we still came away with 3 points also. Was a nervy finish but delighted we won. Onto Arsenal next Saturday. YNWA.

I respectfully disagree, MrSox87. That first half was quite dreadful, IMO. The reason is not just down to the way the Saints set up to block the passing lanes and make play balls of the the top of the defence to beat the press and get in behind the high defensive line. It was mainly down to our defenders constantly passing the ball sideways to themselves and stupidly, passing the ball to Adrian at almost every turn.

That to me, is where the issue was. This allowed the Saints to pressure us in the box and force mistakes and as soon as Adrian made his first mistake, the unease spread right thru the team and then all panic broke lose. Saints should have scored 2 goals last night (a part from the Adrian error leading to their goal) . We were sloppy and indecisive for half the game BUT I will say, we improved a lot in the second half and could have scored 3 goals so not going to slate the boys too much.

I think Klopp has got them taking it easy in the first half of games as the fitness isn’t there yet. We seem to play within ourselves then pick it up in the second half.
It worked a treat on Saturday as Southampton ran themselves into the ground in the first half then we completely controlled it up until Adrian’s error. They were a beaten team up to that point but that gave them a boost for 5 minutes and Ings missed a golden chance but after that we saw it out comfortably.
People will talk about how many shots we gave up but how many of those shots were actual chances? Not many.
