Love VAR 🤪.

Looks like it's going to be a very interesting season, to say the least.

I cannot believe that. 2 shots, 2 goals and a last minute goal (that looked a perfectly good goal) ruled out by VAR. Unbelievable.

{Ed047's Note - you’d hate to be on the end of that VAR decision, didn’t make a single difference to where the ball was going and it hit both players arms. 🤷‍♂️

17 Aug 2019 19:31:56
What must it do to a team when they all celebrate convinced they score and next minute bang! No goal, must be draining an also angry, this a whole new era of football, all about the drama!

17 Aug 2019 19:32:09
I wouldn’t be happy if we were denied a winner like that though. I know the rules have changed regarding a handball that leads to a goal but that was extremely harsh on City. I’m sure this will happen to us at some point this season though. What is it they say? These decisions even themselves out over the course of the season.

5.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 19:33:25
Listen, there’s no doubt that we’ll be on the wrong end of a VAR from our point of view at some point this season. I posted a couple of weeks ago that it has the potential to really shake things up, those points won and lost through wrong decisions are, in the main, going to dry up. It’s a game changer for sure and will have a decisive role in who wins the league, in my opinion. Some strange things though, I thought that was a definitely pen for city in the 1st half when the Tottenham defender had his arms round the city players neck, I thought that was the sort of thing that would be overturned to be honest.

17 Aug 2019 19:42:38
My heart pump pi$$ for them. It will be like penos, they even out over a season, except VAR isn't a weak ref.

7.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 19:49:03
I like it. Hope that the stadium gets some clarity about what is happening.

Off course, I'm only joking! I hate VAR, its crap. You're celebrating, hugging the coach, doing your wee dance, then some clown 3 miles away gives no goal for an accidental handball. For me, it ruins the game.

I guess you will have to wait when score, to see if Walter Mitty down the road can see a reason not to give it, before you go running buck daft around the pitch, celebrating.

17 Aug 2019 19:57:09
They were levels above Spurs but hey that's football. Fair play to Spuds though they had a go and got a point, more than most do.

10.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 20:13:51
I thought it was no goal weather the handball was accidental or not? If so it was the correct call.

11.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 20:20:34
Polecat VAR is just as error prone as any ref. If that was disallowed for hand ball then surely we should of had a pen last week or the Chelsea pen should never have been given. It’s this clear and obvious mistake rule that allows VAR to be just as error prone if you ask me. Was that hand ball clear and obvious today? Was it **** but VAR still overruled the ref. I thought VAR would take away the banter between fans ( ie the ref done you a favour ) but it’s just as controversial as ever.

17 Aug 2019 20:07:31
Agreed Ed047. I'd be fuming if I was Pep. Not only for the the disallowed goal, you can maybe except that, but Lamela blatantly wrestled Rodri to the ground in the box with box arms around his neck. If that last minute goal is ruled out by VAR, surely VAR must step in and say that's a penalty. But hey, I'm a Liverpool fan and every point that City drop, I'm happy, so I'm not complaining.

{Ed047's Note - I agree mate and I’m happy that both dropped points too, a win win for us both! 😂

13.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 20:13:25
I thought it hit a Tottenham arm first but was watching on a dodgy stream Ed047 so didn’t mention it in my original reply in case I was wrong. Definitely wouldn’t be happy if that happened for Liverpool.

{Ed047's Note - 100% I wouldn’t be happy mate, have you tried hesgoal, they have HD streams on there. I use it for the 3pm games.

On a side not where was VAR when De. Bruyne went down and replays showed there was absolutely no contact. Can’t remember which Tottenham player made the challenge but I know he received a yellow card.

15.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 20:28:32
VAR was not the issue, the new rule this season states, any goal scored via a handball (including accidental) will be disallowed. The referee and VAR are blameless for Citys disallowed goal.

{Ed047's Note - true mate but it’s must be so frustrating when it literally has no bearing on the goal, not one Spurs player complained.

16.) 17 Aug 2019
17 Aug 2019 20:55:35
Scootinio. It has been stated that VAR will have absolutely no say in yellow cards.

100% the goal should have been disallowed, but City should have had a penalty earlier in the game. I don't mind VAR, but I dislike how there doesn't seem to be a consistent standard with its usage.

17 Aug 2019 21:08:55
Didn’t know that EpicPotato. Thanks for enlightening me. VAR the and the new hand ball rules are only going to make this season more controversial. Plus the new rule you can receive the ball in the penalty box from a goal kick seems to be overused don’t you think. I watched the Arsenal game and they seemed to do it every goal kick even though it got them into trouble. It seems teams are doing it just because they can at the moment.

I think a lot more is being made of it than is necessary to be honest. It's just that is disallowed a last minute goal for the current champions which makes it a hot topic.

Seriously, how many goals are scored where an attacking player handles the ball? Not many. Also, I have to admit, if Laporte hadn't have handballed it, it wouldn't have changed direction into Jesus' path, so by the letter of the law, it's the right decision. I I just think we are overestimating how many times that particular scenario will happen over the season.

Ed047 I’ve got a kodi box and it was some Croatian channel. To be fair it was great for the Liverpool game apart from the commentator sounded like a foreign Alan Hansen. It seemed to go a bit nuts during the City game though.

{Ed047's Note - I had one a few years back and it was hopeless, hesgoal has all British commentary and so far has the best picture, I did use bein for a while and used to laugh at the crazy commentary on there! 😂

21.) 17 Aug 2019

Hesgoal is usually my go to, today for the Liverpool match though it was terrible, almost unwatchable. Hopefully just a one off or my internet playing up.

I used to use the Kodi free channels. I remember watching LFC Vs QPR (yes it was a while ago) and I watched the first half on a Kazakhstani channel and at half time tried to find some English commentary.

I found and American stream. About 5 minutes into the second half I heard "That was amazing play from Daniel Sturridge in the offensive zone". I then switched back to the Kazkhastani channel.

Swings and roundabouts, im sure other teams us included will have decisions like that against us that season. City can moan all they want but we all play by the same rules. Came off a hand, they changed the rules that handball if its accidental or not is handball and to disallow it? Pretty sure that's it, so ref got it spot on. can't argue with that. Not the biggest fan of VAR but it helps fair play. For example If someone beats city by a point this season, they can look back and think VAR actually got the decision right and I know it was not intentional by the city player but by the new rules technically cheating stopped them winning the league.

Nice to see spurs give it ago, hopefully this season more teams start attacking city and not just bending over for them.

going to be a exciting season i think :-)

Seems a common theme that VAR is only adding more controversy but it really isn't. That was harsh on man city but it's the official handball rule that has hurt them not VAR. That disallowing of the goal was actually 100% the correct decision according the rulebook, in that scenario VAR was not to blame at all. We will soon adjust to this new rule as it actually cuts out any sort of dispute, . The handball ruling was always a controversial grey area whereas now it's more clear what is the wrong or right call. It went against city today but another day it will go for them.

I like the addition of var as it only improves the percentage of correct calls being made and a fair result for every team.

Epic Potato your comment about the American commentary made me laugh. I’m a bit strange as if the commentary is foreign I still have the volume up. Not sure why.

not one spurs player saw it came off his arm. ya can't tell me we wouldn't be spewing if we conceded a goal like that under the old rules. I mean what is an "intentional" handball other than one like suarez for uruguay vs ghana?

They have to give a standard which they did. Now we know what it is and it is objective. any arm contact contributing to a goal is ruled out. sounds fair to me.
