Could do with some perspective please gents, should we be worried about the poor pre season form?

{Ed025's Note - absolutely not NYR, the front 3 have not played and they define the team and how they play, pre-season means absolutely nothing in terms of results mate its all about fitness and trying different options..

Hi Ed025, value your opinion mate as always. Wanted to ask you do you think or no if we are still actively looking to bring anyone in mate please?

virgil, out of interest - what would be the difference between the people responsible for transfer activity just doing their jobs and them actively looking to bring in anyone?

Everton were crushed in the pre-season last season and had a respectable season. They should have drawn with us twice. Pre-season means nothing. Having said that, I am a little concerned with some of the goals we have allowed. Some were the fault of Mignolet, but most were because of poor marking. We'll see what happens this season.

Stone, Mignolet is worth a two goal head start to the opponents. Today it was three. At this stage I’d sell him and let Lonergan be number two. Even Fatty Faulks, or Billy the Fish out of Viz. Just not Mignolet.

{Ed0333's Note - Andrea Bocelli would have saved at least two of those goals today. Simon Mignolet needs moving on.

I really don't see the panic here, we've lost a few preseason games and the season is over. People like to say the team rely on the front three too much, but that's three players. Chelsea last season relied so much on Hazard, Spurs are the same with Kane. More or less one player or bust.
My answer to that would be how many of the front three played the second leg against Barca.

One question for the Ed or any posters that have an idea, what is going wrong at Real Madrid, are the wheels totally off or will they spend their way out of trouble?

{Ed0333's Note - you’re always gonna have issues when men with gargantuan egos have pissing contests. I’m not sure Zidane’s resurrection will be so successful.

yeah 6 times, they could literally sign me and I could do as well as Mignolet did today.

Thanks for the reply Ed. Totally agree with u on Zidane probably ending on a sour note. But Madrid like United will be back, they're huge clubs, it's just a matter of how many hundreds of millions it takes to get them there.

Am I worried out about the preseason results no, simply because we are without Salah, Bobby and Mane and not to mention Allison. Would I like more signings yes and no, someone like Sessegnon or in that mould that can cover left back and left forward would be perfect. No, because Ox is back and if Naby can rekindle his Bundesliga form those are two new signings. I think people are forgetting we finished a point behind City and won the Champions League with this current squad.

Pre season results aside its more about getting lads upto pace trying different systems or different playere in different roles etc. The results aren't so worrying for me . What is worrying and this isn't a knee jerk reaction is, we got fortunate with are front 3 over the last 2 seasons with them being relatively injury free and not serving many if at all any suspensions. if we lose mane, bobby and even salah to a certain extent for any period of time this season we are going to be in a world of pain .
Brewster looks like he will develop into a player but its going to take time . big divock is not the answer, he's useful at times from the bench, but when he starts he always looks way out of his depth.

I know the noise coming out of the club is we are actively looking for a versatile AM who can play in the forward line of 3 if needed, but if we don't bring someone of better quality in than divock we struggle at times this year as i see all 3 of them forwards suffering from flat patches/ burn out and niggles this year.

Ed you say the front three define us, but does that not highlight the need for cover? I think origi off the bench is great, he’s different and scores big goals. Ox wants to be and for me is more effective as a cm, and then shaqiri who I actually like as despite his unwillingness to defend much, does seem to just always produce a great ball once a game, which could be the difference between a draw and three points. However, shaq is more of an impact sub for me too.

{Ed025's Note - the thing for me firmane is that can any of the back up strikers be relied upon to perform for a length of time, yes origi is a good impact sub and brewster may have something about him but we are talking about a crucial time in liverpools history here mate, this is your best chance to win a premier league title ever and i just dont think you have enough in the tank if things go tits up on the injury front..

That’s what I meant ed, we need the cover for the above reasons!

You’re spot on 25, I put up a post regarding pre season, the front three are not just the attacking outlet but they defend form the front, especially Bobby, watch him live, he stop closing down the ball. Our success in the 70’ and especially the 80’s was driven from the front. Rushey was brilliant at closing down from the front.

With regard to back up, I’m with you too, especially around the festive period, unless we send the kids out to Qatar I really don’t see how we’ll cope if the injuries kick in.

I could be totally wrong but judging on last years dip, I’m not so sure.
