Great article, Ed01. During my sejour in France, I saw a documentary about the history of the French national team in 2002 before the WC in 2002. That is where I discovered Jean-Pierre-Adams He is everything you described in your article however, they did not talk about everything else about how his life turned out.

Marius Tresor talked about him like he has his twin, like he was his blood brother. He never talked that much about his abilities as an athlete. Rather, he spoke glowingly about him as a man an a friend, one who had so much influence on his life as a footballer and off the pitch.

It is a sad shame that his life turned out the way it did BUT I will say that his story and that of his life, is one that can inspire us all into believing that many impossible things can still be possible. The fact that his mother-in-law did not want Adams to marry his daughter, only for him to be able to change her heart and mind into accepting and loving him the way is was, almost brings a tear to my eyes. Peace and Love to all who believe this world is a great place regardless of the horrible things we see every day.

{Ed001's Note - it is one of the most inspiring and saddest stories I know of. You have to admire how Bernadette has just kept going. I don't think I could do what she has.}

Good god, almost wish I hadn't read it. Utterly heartbreaking Ed001, thanks for writing it. That Bernadette is something else.

My grandparents had a similar reaction as her's to my father. They were strict Irish catholics and initially refused to even meet my father (Egyptian, Muslim) . It took two years for them to meet but only a couple of days for them to fall in love with him.

Ed01, I fully agree with you re: Bernadette. That is what true love is, my friend. I have been fortunate (or unfortunate) to witness with my own eyes the strength of a woman and a wife in full devotion to her husband and spouse in the same situation as Bernadette and Jean Pierre.

I have always respected women and their toughness but after witnessing what I witnessed, the respect grew exponentially. You see, women are made with a diff. type of mental makeup and toughness that a man will never know anything about. This is prolly way you think you would not have done what Bernadette did for her husband. You like all men, are not wired that way.

It is why this story hits home for me cos I have experienced and seen the strength of a woman. The love, devotion, dedication to duty of being a husband and a mother. This is why women inspire me so much. They deal with things that I could never accept nor be able to deal with. Peace and Love to all the women of this world cos they are loved, even of we don't show it in the way we as men, should.
