Hi Ed001

Just thinking ahead to our games after pre season with players away at AFCON at the minute do you expect all players to be back available for the Community shield game v City on the 4th August. Apart from injured players of course.

{Ed001's Note - I would expect them to be only just back at best. They have to have a set time on holiday. I can't remember off the top of my head how long that is, but they will not long be back in training, if at all.}

That is a worry isn't it. Is matip away?

{Ed001's Note - no mate.}

Front 3 of Origi, Brewster, Shaqiri. We'll win 6-0.

{Ed002's Note - I think more of a problem for August is the nuisance of the game in Istanbul which neither side needs.}

I think it 3 weeks holiday ed, that is what it was last year.

{Ed001's Note - that sounds right to me, as that was what I was thinking but didn't want to say it in case I was getting mixed up. At my age it is easy to get mixed up.}

I think its 3 weeks from the last game they play. So the deeper they go in the tournaments the later they'd be back.

So Ed could we well be going into both Cup games without any of the front 3? .

{Ed001's Note - what cup games? They are one-off matches, not cup matches. The travel to Istanbul and back is far more of an issue than actually playing the games.}

Is the game in istanbul the super cup? Against chelsea?

It is pointless really, but still nice to win it i guess.

Remember the world club cup thingy? We were robbed, i think we had 3 penalty decisions go against us and we put the ball in the net but was ruled out for offside although he was clearly onside.

I think the league will be priority this season. Ya know, we've won the biggen now, i wouldn't be surprised if we got to the final again. But its the league now. I think we're going to do it.

Sorry Ed I meant the Community shield and the UEFA Super Cup mate. I no they are seen as a hassle and pointless by some but I want ya to win them. At least the Super cup so just thinking ahead we could well be without the front 3 given they need 3 weeks Hokiday and this game is on the 14th of August?

{Ed001's Note - it gives others a chance to show they can fill in when needed. I always want LFC to win, but I am not going to panic over a couple of players being out.}

Not bothered about any of this really. We have enuff in the squad to deal with Norwich and tho the Super Cup game is a distraction, I am sure Klopp has a plan to navigate these issues properly.

As for the boys coming back from the AFCON or Copa America, they need rest and vacation so that much is clear and again, all this would have been factored in by the coaching staff when planning for the off season and preseason programming. Frankly, I'm all good cos well, Klopp's in charge so I got NO worries whatsoever.

Keita has already returned injured and is reported as doubtful for the season start.
It was really only Henderson affected by the World Cup last year, and he subsequently didn’t start a game until September 1st.
Unless Klopp throws Brewster and maybe Wilson in for the first 2 or 3 league games, I think we may have to sign a forward?
There’s such a fine margin now that any lost points can be so crucial.
Not the start you’d want.

Would be nice to have already started the season with 2 trophies cabinet. Success breeds success a lot of the time!

3 weeks is the time they get off from the last game they play. Players can choose to shorten this period and return to training earlier if they so wish but are under no obligation to do so.

The European Super cup would hardly be a nuisance. You get a trophy for winning one game. Will take that any day over the Carabao cup.

Remember Sturridge started a few early last season, and scored some big goals including an absolute worldy that won goal of the month by a record tally. It leaves a gap eh, origi can fill in for mane and shaqiri for salah. Not sure who can play CF. We are going to need to win near on every game if we want to win our league title again, well not lose many if not any. If klopp trusts brewster then so do i, haven't seen him play much so can't really comment.

This probably won't be popular, but if we sign a CF, i would go for a big man, a target man who can hold up the ball and play our wingers in. And with robbo, trent, hendo and milner whipping in crosses, it'd be handy to bring on a good header of the ball. Could make the difference against stubborn defences.

Answering my own question, i guess lallana can play the false 9. I wouldn't be that confident going up against city with origi lallana/ brewster and shaqiri though.

The community sheild (or whatever its called now) is usually pointless. But, as its against our rivals and the first proper game of the season, i think we need to win. Make a statement. We know we can take them, but we know they can take us too.

Chelsea are no walk over either. Two tough games, against premiership teams. Why on earth are we travelling from liverpool and london to the other side of Europe to play a fairly pointless game?

Quite often the europa league winners win the super cup. I wonder if Klopp will take the game as a serious one. I'm sure he didn't want us playing league cup games, played a weak team last season and we were beat in the first round. Went out of the fa cup early too. It is a big reason why we reached such a high points tally and won the European Cup imo.

I can see Klopp treating them as pre season games, giving the youngsters a chance. Young Curtis Jones looks capable. Wilson knows how to kick a ball. Brewster is a highly rated youngster (but so was solanke, who reached 01 goals in all competitions and he played plenty of minutes. I think he was inches away from securing his future at liverpool, he missed loads of chances by a matter inches)
