Sounds like a good player Tris. Maybe we should drop our interest in De Ligt and go for Gomez?

{Ed001's Note - I would much rather have Gomez any day. Not that we are in for de Ligt anyway.}

I’d like Joe to focus on CB personally. He has potential to be a very good (if not excellent) CB rather than just a good versatile defender. I know he is still young but I feel that he has more chance to reach his full potential if he sticks to the one position in which he is strongest.

I agree Ed. De Ligt is very physical for his age in my opinion and people mistake that for ability, like they did with Shawcross, Skrtel, Smalling etc before him who all went on to show very little improvement after a certain age because at some point you stop getting bigger and stronger! Nowadays it's the same old story with guys like Maguire, Davison Sanchez and De Ligt. I'm not sure De Ligt's actually an outstanding footballer. Just very big and strong for his age, and very vocal and confident for his age. Good player still, but Gomez is the better defender and overall footballer for me.

{Ed001's Note - De Ligt is also on the slow side and lacks any positional sense. Good on the ball but not a particularly good defender.}

As has been said before, Gomez brings out the best in Van Dijk. Van Dijk cannot afford to relax with such a young CB partner next to him, and it just turns him into monster. They conceded 5 goals in 14 games together before Joe got injured. The makings of a truly world class partnership.

Hes still very young and has time to shine, many Liverpool fans are just too impatient but he's shown what he's capable of many times and of course made many mistakes but that's how you improve, by making mistakes and realising it. A great young player who I see having a huge future with Liverpool. Good read Ed thank you mate.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

Thought he was brilliant before his injury. Really really good. As ed01 said, his versatility makes him a huge asset.

I know matip did well when he came in and kept lovren and gomez out of the team (although they may still have been recovering, not 100%) but i hope Joe runs out against Norwich.

To add, he has the potential to become a world class cb imo. Playing next to Vvd and in front of Becker will help fulfil that potential.

I’m suprised how well he did this season when fit. Not going to lie I thought he wouldn’t cut it the season before. I think it was against Araenal away when we drew and sanchez beat hin in the air to score a header. Pretty sure he played right back that game still not a fan of him in that position. Hope he keeps excelling at cb and becomes more vocal.

Wouldn't trade Gomez for De Ligt, EVER. Gomez is the better defender, hands down IMO. Great on the ball, powerful in the air, great on the ground, has sprinter speed, great in one on one battles and a perfect compliment to VVD. His ceiling and upside is so high, it's frightening provided he can put his injuries behind him.
