Continuing my belief that we always sign some of our best players from recently relegated teams, who would you like to see sign as cover or as a starter from Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham?

For me personally i'd like to see Terence Kongolo sign from Huddersfield. A good quick cover option can also play at LB, especially important signing if Lovren leaves.
I also wouldn't mind Etheridge from Cardiff coming in as backup to Alisson.

The only one that has anywhere near enough quality from those 3 teams is Ryan Sessegnon, but unfortunately he looks Spurs bound.

I would want NO player from any of those relegated teams, not even Sessegnon. Kongolo is ALL over the shop as a defender getting dragged out of position at will. even tho, he has good pace. Sessegnon needs more time to adapt to the PL tempo and we don't have time for any of that esp. if he thinks he can start ahead of Robbo which is a pipe dream at it stands. The teams that got relegated from the 17/ 18 season had some decently quality players in them like Shaq, jay Rodriguez etc. Not these lot. They are poor all over, IMO.

I don't believe the hype around Sessegnon, he did very little to stand out in that admittedly haphazard Fulham side.

ed001 what's your take on Sessegnon. I know he is only 19 but from what I see of him last season he looks very over hyped my be because he is English but when ever I see Fulham play last season I can't remember him doing anything that stood out at all. And for the money he would cost think we could do a lot better.

{Ed001's Note - a good young prospect who was not ready to step up.}

RedWolf I reckon they'd perform better in a stable environment with the right coaching, just like Robbo. You can look at the stats, which Liverpool base their transfers off, and compare them to our current players, players we sign from relegated teams tend to be our highest performing players, because they've a point to prove, we should not be so quick to dismiss them.

Etheridge as GK backup only if Mig leaves.

J Bryan or Marchand or christie as backup Defender.

Kieran with all due respect, stats mean absolutely nothing to me. Never have and never will. Secondly, you use Robbo as an example of us signing a player from a relegated team BUT your argument lacks context.

Robbo was actually not that good at Hull and in fact, he was defensively a true liability and lacked any sort of end product in his crosses. There was a reason why many of us were underwhelmed when he arrived.

Robbo then came to us and had to graft for his spot with Moreno ahead of him. Robbo put his head down and worked his socks off, improved his game overall and went to the next level again this season. Your example is a misnomer and a false comparison, IMO.

Stats might mean nothing to you Redwolf but that is completely irrelevant. If Liverpool staff use these stats then that is relevant.

You also used Robbo as an example of a player not very good at Hull but under the right guidance became a very good player at Liverpool. Surely then there could well be players from the relegated teams that might go the same way, such as Sessegnon or the skilful midfielder at Huddersfield? (His name escapes me) . You 2 posts are sort of contradicting themselves. Maybe none of these players from relegated teams may well not be good enough but after Robbo I certainly wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

Irish Rover has a point. More and more I am reading about this analytics department at Liverpool that seemingly is making some kind of impact. It could possibly explain some of how almost every LFC player has improved since joining. Emphasis being not on the simple statistics thrown out for public consumption but the cause and effect of players with and without the ball throughout a game. I'm no proponent of "moneyball" and do believe that the other areas (coaching, management, training and tactics) are probably more important. But let's not dismiss analytics in football simply because we don't understand it fully yet.

ArAy1969, Kieran mentioned statistics, NOT analytics. Analytics are different and have been used in football for the past 25 years so I fully understand it and how it can work in football, thank you very much.

IR, my posts are not contradictory. Robbo had some good attributes obviously hence the reason he was signed. Of all the players in the relegated teams of this season, I do not find any play I feel can make that step up. Sessegnon did not make the step up and in fact, is not even a defender and as he was used as a winger and a support striker at times. Not sure he can make it at the level LFC play at right now, IMO. I just don't. You have a diff. opinion and that's okay.
