The current value of English players is frightening in comparison to rest of Europe. Nobody batting an eyelid at Maguires price being no less than the top young talents in Europe. Wan bissaka good player yeah but 55 million for a full back with one season played? United could potentially spend 110 mil if they want both players. Surely they could find 2 other better options and save 40 million or so. Nobody questions maddison being valued at similar prices to fernandes, rodri, frenkie de jong, havertz, lo Celso, griezemann. I read west ham are looking to tie up fornals for 25 mil. I think he's a much better player already and at a fraction of the price. Maddison is a nice player and a future prospect for sure but people aren't even questioning these figures. Zaha, chilwell, rice, Brooks. All examples of complete over hyped players.

Firstly, English players have always been overvalued and expensive so it's nothing new. A lot of its just clubs trying to avoid selling players and so putting High prices on them and some of its just appear talk nonsense I'm sure, in the end we don't know enough about the finances to really worry about it, although I will say it does make for some interesting discussion still

I think there's a level of overhype created by the appears as we are in England so naturally they want to be positive for the national team but mainly I thinks it's because the only clubs you can buy the top English players from is other premier league teams as there are not many abroad, however as we know prem clubs don't need to sell players due to the super high revenues from tv ect, therefore buying any player from premier league clubs tend to be inflated compared to some clubs abroad who may be more inclined to sell players for financially reasons.

I think part of it is proving they can handle English life and the premier league. Bruno Fernandes may be twice the player, he may turn into the next David Silva. or he might be another foreign player who can’t adapt to English weather, doesn’t settle or is too lightweight.

Before anyone says anything, I have never see Fernandes play, it was just the first name on the list for an example.

Maybe those guys are all just 50 odd million players, but the fact that they’re English or at an unfashionable club makes you think they’re not? Trent, for example has only had a season or two and you would have to pay a lot more than that for him. He just happened to come through at Liverpool, but maybe you’d baulk at the price if he was at Palace. While I agree there will always be a silly premium on English players, everyone questioned the price paid for Virgil at the time and 75 million is now seen as a bargain.

It's the nature of the beast, OP. It is what it is.

Trent has played in 2 champions league finals and a major part of a team that just got 97 points, with a ridiculous number of assists. You can’t compare him to maguire or Maddison.

Maguire will be 80m if he goes, which as you say is crazy. I am really glad we are not looking for a lot of players. Barca, Real, Bayer, City, Utd, PSG, Spurs they are all fighting over a lot of the same players. I dread to think how much Utd, Real will be spending.
