Morning Ed001,

Any memories of the day in 1978 when Liverpool demolished Spurs 7-0 at Anfield?
What would you rate that performance?

{Ed001's Note - how old do you think I am? I was born in 1974 I don't remember that, sorry.}

Oh. my bad!
Read about it somewhere. And a lot of praise for that team.

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, that is all I know of them as well.}

For the record I remember it. Press went crazy about how good Liverpool were at that time. I think it was Terry Mac’s goal (the one where he started the move from our end and finished the move with a goal) which was the one goal highlighted over and over. I listened to the second half commentary on the radio and watched it on Match of the Day. Those were good old days. Domination! It actually feels like we could get back to that level right now :)

They were extremely fortunate to beat City though. Aguero missing a penalty and that VAR goal. Pep playing a weakened side in the first leg. They were 2nd best throughout both games too but managed to score at the right times and squeezed through.
Same against Ajax really. 2nd best apart from the last half an hour in the 2nd leg when they went all Big Sam and Ajax faded badly.
They have a punchers chance against us but we should win we have the better team.

Come on spurs are there on merit as we are! We had our own luck too, I fancy us for the win but spurs are a very good side, I wouldn’t be surprised with a 4.0 drubbing or a 3.2 they’re a capable team and I think some of our fans are acting like it’s already won. Ac Milan did that in 205 and look what happened.

Never underestimate the opponent in a final. It's not always just about the skill and footballing ability. So many other things (injuries during the game, the ref and VAR decisions and just plain luck, for example) can swing the results whichever way. Pochetinno is no slouch and neither is his team.

Ed025, I know you were celebrating your retirement quite heavily that year, but do you remember much of the game?

{Ed025's Note - i do remember it PB, liverpool were unstoppable in that game and spurs were a poor side back then mate, i had not retired then though...i was just rehearsing.. :)

That was a great team.
That was the season we let in 4 goals in 21 league games at Anfield.
I was in the Kop that day with my friend and his dad I was 13 bloody hell where as the time gone. Spurs had just signed Ozzie and Villa after the World Cup.
The Terry mc goal was fantastic though.

Beckers, stop minimizing Spurs' achievement of reaching the final. It makes you sound petulant and self-entitled. Yes, they were dominated by City BUT not in both game. In the first game, Pep outsmarted only one person before that game: Himself. Pep was so bad in that game in terms of tactics that even the Cioty fans ripped him to shreds for it.

Pep seemed to be more concerned with what Spurs were going to do instead of focusing on his own team. He picked a poor team and messed up his tactics. How is it Spurs' fault that the best manager in history, messed up? Or that Aguero missed a sure goal as in, a penalty? Come on, man.

Spurs beat City to make it to the semi final and then Ajax, to make the final fair and square and should be respected for that instead of you trying to minimize their accomplishments with your pathetic nitpicking.

Seriously, best manager in history? Give Guardiola a team without the best resources in a given league and see what he does then re-evaluate. I can't even tell if that was just being facetious, but no.

It was on a par with the match with Forest in 1988.

You know people talk about “putting a marker down?
Well that was the marker for any team putting a marker down.

It was a message to Spurs “ you’re a decent team, but you can’t live with us”.
