what's your opinion on the prices for champions and Europa league finals? It's sad that a lot of fans get priced out of the chance to represent their team at the highest level. The ticket prices, flight prices and accomadation prices are extortionate and how do you feel this could be challenged or amended?

Open question for everyone as well what's your thoughts on this? I see Liverpool/ spurs were allocated about 38000 tickets for Madrid which is an awful lot compared to the Chelsea / arsenal equivalent in Europa league, Madrid makes sense for a final but Azerbaijan? Seriously? How do they come up with that decision?

I'm of the opinion Azerbaijan has greased the palms of the decision makers why else would the final be there? And the way fans are ripped off for flights, hotel rooms, I even heard that parking around the stadium in Madrid is something like 3 grand. Just to park your dam car! It's just utterly unfair and criminal what is happening.

I don’t understand buddy. Baku is clearly the footballing capital of Europe. Iraq next year 🤝.

I think there is a lot of oil in Azerbaijan.

{Ed002's Note - The thread is not comparing like for like as the Europa League final tickets (or at least 37k of them)are on general sale and have been for some time. That is not true for the Champions League tickets - #WonderDogSparky has explained about the likely allocation of Liverpool's tickets for the Champions League Final.}

I feel really sorry for the Chelsea - Arsenal fans as, no matter what, going to watch their team in Baku is going to cost them an absolute fortune in travel, accommodation and ticket expenses. Even worse, they've been given a paltry proportion of tickets available meaning many will have to turn to the black market with even more ludicrous mark-ups. It is obvious that the dollar is the only thing that matters to UEFA.

I'm surprised that nothing has been done about flight operators and hotels artificially raising their prices in lieu of a major European competition - I would of thought it breaches some sort of law on business operations - but it seems like, as long as some people are making money, it doesn't matter how badly everyone else is stung with those extortionate prices. It's great for fans of all the English sides to be in the final of a European competition, it's a shame the cost is so prohibitive that many will be unable to make the journey.

Maybe get the clubs to work with supporters clubs across Europe and UEFA and block book accommodation based on number of tickets that they plan to hand out. Flip side is the hotels will be there for rams who get to the final. The downside is what happens if a local team qualifies? But seeing as business is business most probably the hotels will be added to clubs ticket allocations and sold as corporate packages.

Fans can always book rooms where the final will be and cancel within time scale. Maybe they should just book the flights once they get to the semi finals and take a chance.

I don’t think there is any right answer. As for every ticket allocated to fans in the final there may another 3 people going to that area for a good time and carnival atmosphere. It’s dog eat dog and money talks.

A few of us planned to travel and watch the game in Liverpool City Centre as we can't get tickets for Madrid but have you seen the prices for a room in Liverpool that night?!
Its extortionate - Might get something basic away from the centre for about £300 PP if I'm lucky!

Azerbaijan has been on a massive investment drive for a while. They just have to throw their hat in the ring and show that they can be safe and hospitable and they have as much right to host an event as any other UEFA member.

Also, for all the boohooers, don’t think of the finals as football matches. Think of them as an international event for schmoozing among the bigwigs where a game of football is played. We would all love to be there. We’d all love a Ferrari and a chateau in the south of France as well but life is not like that.

I don’t think anyone who actually gets to go has a right to complain about the cost because, in general, it’s a once in a lifetime, money can’t buy type situation. Or at least it should be. Joe bloggs who went to Istanbul, Ukraine or is going to Madrid to see the match should not forget that they are the fortunate ones and that when all said and done money is just money. Memories are what will stay with you.

Is it true mhkitaryan can’t travel due to political reasons?

{Ed002's Note - Mkhitaryan can travel if he wishes but he may decide not to for matters of personal safety.}
