Morning Ed001,

At the start of the season were you worried about the lack of QUALITY backup for our front 3?
I remember you saying (in April) that we have been lucky with injuries (esp. front 3) this season.
But now, our luck seems to have run out.

{Ed001's Note - no, not really. We could always change our system to suit losing one for the long term. We may not have options, but you don't have to play 4-3-3 every time. There is always the possibility of playing youngsters, or going to a back three and freeing up the full-backs to get forward even more. Then you only need one of them and a more attacking midfield willing to get into the box more. I would like to see us bring in one quality forward to cover all across the front line and hope that Brewster will grow into a strong option as a striker.}

Who would you want to bring in for that forward cover Ed? you don't have to provide a name I know how superstitious you are. Are you thinking like a Julian Brant that covers multiple positions including CAM and CM or more of a Insigne that only really covers the wings?

{Ed001's Note - more of a Brandt type.}

Zeppelin do you really think we would spend over 100 million on insigne to be a back up player?

Some peoples heads really are in the clouds lol starting to sound like united men thinking the whole world is going to end up on our bench.

Cheers, Ed.
Totally agree, a quality forward to cover the front 3 is required.
Apart from that, do you think with Ox getting back and Keita finding his feet, an attacking midfielder (like Fekir) will be a priority this summer?
Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - Keita is not really a priority, it is fullbacks that are the priority for me.}

Spot on, Ed. Brandt or someone of his ilk would be perfect for us. Also, I agree that the squad depth issue is a false argument cos as you say, you can always change your system to suit the players you have available and Klopp has shown that he can adapt. We have deployed the 4-3-2-1, the 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-4-3 and the 4-4-2 diamond thru out Klopp's tenure here so why not go back to any of these formations? Klopp has multiple formations he can play to counter the absences. We shall see what he does.

I hope we are looking at David Neres as a backup or rotation player, for the front 3. He could be another breakout star, just the way Salah has been.

It was impossible to fix all our issues in one go. I think Klopp/ the club fixed the most pressing issues. We spent massive money on a cb, gk and 2 midfield players. Now we need a rb and cover for the front 3, both should be very achievable in the upcoming transfer window.

I don't really mean cover, I wouldn't call someone like Brandt cover he would be a quality addition.

@Seosamh1990 I didn't asked if we'd sign a specific player I referenced a type of player. I. e. one that covers the front three or one that covers the CM and CAM and possible wing positions. I used the players as examples, "stylistically" maybe you should learn to read before the question before you expose yourself.

Brilliant post, Mark. We have addressed the KEY positions that has held us back for almost a decade as in the CB, GK DM, and FB positions. We have revamped our attack to the point that the 13/ 4 group is not a patch on our current front 3. Now, it is time to beef up the squad with competition, NOT with backups cos Brandt is NO backup, IMO. In fact, he was coming in last season as a snear starter. Only he refused cos he wasn't sure to start all the games. Now, he may be ready to make that jump and we should pursue him, IMO cos Klopp wanted him once so there is a chance Klopp still wants him.

We need competition at both FB positions, no. 2 GK (to keep Allison fresh and hungry) and a one forward who can cover ALL three positions. In midfield, we may need one more AM or option if Lallana and Milner leave BUT we have Ox coming back as well. That would be my way to go for next season.
