Totally agree ed, the commentators and pundits were all hailing messi like he too control of the game. Same with pique at one time on Bt sport, they said ‘arguably the two best centre halves in the game’ . he looked rattled all game to me.

I seriously think with a full strength team, Gomez CB and Trent on the right we can score 3 at home. Just not sure we can keep them out, and getting 5 is a different story - messi showed he just needs one opportunity and unless we are 3-0 up at the time, hard to not to see how it’s over.

{Ed001's Note - Pique is awful as a defender. He has been having an awful season but I heard the commentator say how well he has been playing but they clearly knew nothing about football.}

Was this supposed to be today’s news eds not the review?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, but I overslept and so it just autolinked the last article uploaded.}

Morning Ed, agree with that review. I also like your honesty. I got a bit of stick for saying Fabinho and VVD had poor games and it's nice to see you can see a performance for what it is and criticise players regardless of who they are.
Anyway, like you said, horrible result but great performance and if we took our chances everybody would be hailing Klopps team selection as genius. One thing I would like your thoughts on, would you not say it was more VVD at blame for the Suarez goal as opposed to Matip? I thought Matip was roughly where he should have been, Suarez made the run behind him. Is it not then VVD's responsibility to watch this and give Matip a shout as he was the one with 'eyes on'?

{Ed001's Note - Matip was out of position, he should have been covering but yes, the main fault was VVD's as he never spotted the run at all. He should have been tracking it. That was something he failed to do all game with Suarez, he was not picking up a single run he made and was dropping off too deep to play offside.}

Is that something you have noticed in VVd's game before, or was it a one off? Cheers for the review, fingers crossed for the second leg.

{Ed001's Note - he normally plays a higher line and uses recovery pace to get him back at a run he has not spotted. It is an issue, but only with a deeper line. If you notice we get a lot of offsides usually, which is the way we deal with the runs, rather than tracking them.}

I was baffled at the praise Pique was getting, Neither him or Roberto could get close to Mane at times.

I thought Messi was fantastic. ok if the only version of "masterclass" is something like dribbling past the whole team every time he gets the ball then fair enough, this performance wasn't that! but in the context of that game in a team that isn't the best Barcelona version we have seen, how he created space for himself and his team mates throughout the match, rode out our dominant period and took over in a 7-minute burst I thought was magnificent from him. So clearly the match-winner. Bit of a shame how his "foul" that led to THAT free kick was won tho. Didn't know you could Tiger punch your opponent on your way to winning a foul haha.

I still have so much hope for the second leg. not based on our past Anfield nights, but simply because this is football and anything can happen. Maybe our execution will be better next week, who knows? Maybe we beat newcastle and then City lose that gives us a boost, who knows. But for sure, we shouldn't lose hope and no matter what the result, we shouldn't lose heart in this team.

Same here faithinworks. The difference next week goes on 4 things for me.

A. It's at Anfield.
B. Firmino, will surely be on.
C. Trent, will surely be on.
D. Gomez will play at CB.

We got unlucky in one game, now it's time to play the preffered team and show Barcelona what we're about at home. I was confident about the first game, I was wrong but I'm still confident we'll do it. At anfield it still won't be easy but can we score 4 goals against them? Of course we can, 5 if needs be, christ if they want to test us even 6, bring them on.

I think we will need 5 at least on Tuesday because they will score 1.tough task but not impossible.

Maybe so mate lol but I really think we're going to do it. We've done it time and time again in the past, what makes this time any different, a poor Barcelona side? Nah bring them on mate, I'm not worried, I'm excited to see Messi, suarez and coutinhos faces when we knock them out. They stand no chance at anfield, mark my words, they're going to fail. If they don't then I'll hold my hands up but I really believe we have enough quality in this team to demolish them, we're hungry for it, once again, bring them on. Barcelona who? Barcelona who just won 3-0 but the same Barcelona who will be knocked out by Liverpool. Roll on Tuesday.

if its any consolation, the melbourne victory let Roy Krishna score almost an identical goal to Suarez tonight. so it happens to the best and the worst defenders in the world.

to be fair, they lost to Roma 3-0 last year.
If it's going to happen it will have to be the crowd that makes the difference.

Roma had an away goal so Barcelona we’re under more pressure.
If we win 3-0 then it’s extra time and pens.
