Just watching Barcelona v Levante - these guys have got plenty of weaknesses at the back! Jurgen will be encouraged!
And we have a lot more to offer going forward than Levante by the looks of things.

Honestly, I'll be very disappointed if we don't reach the final of the CL. Barcelona are great but I think they are past their best and we are better than them.

We're a better team than Barcelona. But they have the Best of the Best. So it definitely sets up for a great semi. I hope we go to Nu Camp to score and to win like Bayern.

Just came on here to report exactly the same thing!

Barcelona are definitely not as good as they used to be and had they been playing a team even marginally better than Levante then they would have conceded.

Barcelona looked extremely slow and sluggish on the counter, often looking for Messi even when it wasn’t the best pass when he came on in the second half. The needed to bring him on the get the win and actually let him lift the trophy on his own; they seem to know how much of a one man team they are.

Suarez is just as tricky but nowhere near as mobile as he once was, he turns like the QE2. Coutinho is as predictable as he always has been, a good dribbler but not a top playmaker. Dembele looked good in flashes. Their midfield certainly still has that Barcelona magic with their little flicks and speed of passing but they haven’t been pressed by a liverpool side yet.

Their defence looked very shaky and never seemed to know what to do when the ball was in the air. Semedo constantly came too narrow and if he does that against Mane then he will have a torrid time.

This barcelona side has a great record at the Camp Nou but they haven’t played us yet. I don’t expect us to win but on tonights showing, i don’t expect a hammering either. A 1-1 draw would do me just fine.

keep in mind the competition they faced. I"m sure they were holding back. Having said that, we should beat them in both legs.

Lads they will be thinking the same about us. We have weaknesses too. Its going to be interesting. Both teams are capable of dishing out a hammering.

The Barcelona game will certainly be interesting for a few reasons: _
- Tactical battle. Will Barcelona play the game in their 'normal' style or choose to be slightly conservative at home with a view to stifle any counter attacks?
- With the return of 2 former team members. How will will the Anfield reception be in the 2nd leg given how these players left us?
- This will be an indication of how far we have progressed against supposedly one of the 'worlds best' sides and Champions of Spain.
- A true test of our defensive qualities against one of the best attacking sides in the world.

On paper this is arguably the toughest fixture we have faced this season. The others that come to mind is PSG away and Man City away- both string attacking sides. However as with a lot of the other posters I think we have the tools and tactical nouse to test their defence in ways they haven't been this season. I am quietly optimistic about this one. Of course we need to have a plan to stifle Messi or the service to Messi in the dangerous areas. We would also need to be mindful of giving away any unnecessary free kicks outside our area. The central defence pairing with Van Dijk concerns me slightly as Gomez is unlikely ready for a full match. I would guess Matip may replace Lovren.

we gave Porto plenty of opportunities, we'll need to be much more tight through the middle of the field to take advantage of our fire power.

we will play tight and look to close down the spaces but they will look at this as an opportunity to get in behind us. I think Robertson and Trent will be targeted to be honest, but if we go in at 0-0 or 1-1 then the pressure will surely mount on them and as per Porto and Bayern, we may be able to nick it! Think the pace of Gomez alongside Van Dyke will be vital if they are picked and it will be interesting to see if Fabhino gets the job of sitting in deep and protecting the back 4,or will he go with the tried and tested. Its like a game of chess, lose concentration for a second and the game is gone!

Don’t worry, we’ve got this.

Everybody on this site said exactly the same before we played last years final. They are slow, midfield can't run, their defence is crap etc etc. I think it is a 50 50 tie and we will find out how good or not our midfield actually is. They will also heavily target Trent, he will need some help.

Come on Burnley 1-1.

I think Barcelona will worry about us more than we worry about them. I see more weaknesses in their team than ours and that’s not being biased.
Personally, away from home I’d play Milner at RB as I think they’d target TAA as a potential weakness. Play two deep midfield players (Hendo and Fabinho) to stifle any space in the no 10 spot that Messi likes to run in to and play Gini in front to provide plenty of energy. If Bobby is fit the front three picks itself.
We could destroy them on the counter attack, in the second leg against Manchester United, first half they got behind Barca’s defence on a few occasions and Pique was struggling to cope with any pace.
Obviously we need to be solid at the back first though to cope with a potentially devastating Barcelona attacking display. One thing for sure though, this is set up to be an awesome two legged affair.
YNWA.

Welsh I get some of the points but their pitch is massive their extra technical ability will make it hard for us. Bobby probably won't play so 4 in midfield would be a good solution IMO. Then Milner could play on Trent's side. We also still need someone to get the ball to the forwards, if Fabs and Hendo both sit it could well turn out like the utd away game where we had zero shots in 90 minutes.

I agree with their technical ability Mark but city had a superior technical ability in the champions league last season and we all know what happened there.
I still think we could see Bobby play and maybe he will play a little deeper without the ball to provide extra legs and energy to stop their midfield dictating the pattern of play. I agree with you on packing the midfield mate, also I don’t think their full backs will be as adventurous as normal due to our threat on the counter.
As for the Man Utd game, we were really off that day, I don’t think it was a true reflection due to all the interruptions etc. I don’t think we need to be over adventurous away from home either, be solid through the middle and let them go out wide.

They will attack TAA relentlessly just as other teams have done. We will be ready for that and punish them. I really believe that if we come out agressive and hit them hard from the beginning we will win both legs.
