Hi Ed002,

Can you please advise what Liverpools priority position signing is in the upcoming market?

In addition, it seems Sturridge will be gone, also Danny Ings, perhaps Origi may stay for back-up which means we are light up front. can't be playing a young kid Brewster to replace Firmino, mane, salah when they're dipping in form.
Need to transition him in, still very young, doesn't have the body.

Therefore, who is a signing up forward that would be realistic in purchasing that we've shown interest in and that would be a good addition in your eyes?

Much appreciated.

Tommy T.

{Ed002's Note - How many games have Sturridge and Ings played for Liverpool this season? It is reasonably close to zip and don't forget Rhian Brewster should be ready to integrate in to the team - so I don't see the club as "light". In terms of priorities - any unexpected departure would jump to the top of the list. Cover at CB, LB, RB may well be required - but again Adam Lewis is waiting for a chance. If there is to be a significant addition I would think AM may be it, but that puts pressure on the remaining two midfield players - adding a Fekir, Brandt, Fernandes option meands that the club might need to change to a 4-2-3-1 type line up which might mean a striker may need to be added and someone needs to be sacrificed - then you get the addition at the front. If Klopp wants to change for that type of approach, adding say Brandt and Werner would work. Else much depends on players leaving.}

They have made a combined 40 appearances and scored 7 goals this season.

Also Worth noting that 40 would be higher if we had progressed in both / either cup competitions.

{Ed002's Note - I am surprised Sturridge and Ings have played so often.}

40 apps between Sturridge/ Origi but only 11 starts.

I think we could afford to sell one and use Brewster instead, particularly if a Brandt-type player were to come in and bolster our attacking options.

I think people are overestimating how much we would miss Sturridge, he obviously has scored some important goals for us but there is 0 need to replace him like for like.

Ings is gone so he is irrelevant, we have Brewster who can play up top, salah can also play there as has Mané,

I believe what we will be looking for is as Ed says a forward who can cover multiple positions.

There is no point signing a player to replace a player who barely plays.

Razor I would look at the minutes. Both players have been used as a sub for the last few minutes of games. I would imagine that in minutes both Sturridge and Ings could afforded to be replaced by youngsters and Origi.

Ings went on Loan in the summer didn’t he?

Are you including Origi in the 40 appearances and 7 goals? Cos Sturridge has not done that alone!

Gini apparently spent the weekend with Depay. I’d take him if Origi and studge leave.

{Ed002's Note - Getting the squad to tap up players now the?}

We have:
Origi
Sturridge
Shaqiri
Lallana
Ings
Keita
Brewster (maybe bobby duncan)
Aoc

Who can cover the three super stars.

Sessegnon would be a brilliant signing imo, as he can play all down the left, including that forward left wing role. While giving stiff competition to robbo.

Question for eds and reds;

Did we sell solanke outright or was it a loan? as he could provide cover up front. Also young kent, was he sold or was he loaned as he can provide cover.

Then there is wilson and there is woodburn and that striker, forgotten his name. Doing well in the championship. Big bloke with a wicked shot. Has a famous namesake. Sorry i can't remember his name. Any chance of those three breaking through, along with the boys at rangers.

{Ed002's Note - Solanke has gone for good, Ings is gone for good, Sessegnan has had a terrible Tim in the PL. Keita, AOC and Allan are not front three replacements.}

Yes sorry, I was including Origi.

If Origi stays then it is only Sturridge's 24 appearances and 4 goals that need replacing.

Surely between Origi, Brewster, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and as someone mentioned, an attacking midfielder ala Brandt could fill that void? that's without Woodburn and a returning Wilson!

{Ed002's Note - There is insufficient space in the squad for all of that.}

Sorry Ed, but wouldn't Origi, Brewster, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Woodburn already be registered in the squad? so it would be a case of 1 out 1 / 2 in?
and that's without taking into consideration any other departures. (Lallana for example)

{Ed002's Note - You cannot keep adding overage players like Wilson without space being made.}

Sturridge's '24 appearances' is a little misleading. He's only played 570 min which is essentially six full games. Over the entirety of the season that's hardly anything.

As other posters have mentioned Wilson or Brewster could easily fill that spot and deserve the opportunity to do so. Likeable Lad and apprently a great presence in the dressing room, but he's just not the player he was.

I know lallana and aoc are midfielders, attacking midfielders, but aoc can play on the wing and lallana has played the false 9 position a little this season and he was good there. Created opportunities. They wouldn't be first choice replacements but can do a job if required for the odd game or two.

I was making the point that we have a lot of cover up front, more than some may think.

And who is the young striker out on loan, looks 28 and has a wicked shot, has a famous namesake, doing my head in!

{Ed002's Note - Wilson - Harold Wilson? Kent - Clark Kent?

I also reckon keita could fill in as a lw.

{Ed002's Note - He could also fill in as goalkeeper.}

We have Liam Millar, Markovic, Awoniyi, Wilson, Woodburn, Kent, Ojo all out on loan. Do you mean one of them or are you thinking of a midfielder?

Markovic is sold and Woodburn is back with us. I've a feeling he may be thinking of herbie Kane who was on loan with Doncaster in league 1. Was getting goals and assists from midfield before injury ended his season. Perhaps that's the namesake he was referencing. He's done well the lad but league 1 suggests he's not ready yet for prem. A loan to championship next season would be best surely.
