Anyone notice that shaqiri has scored more goals than deli ali this season? In the Premier league. Shows how deep our squad is.

How does that show how deep our squad is? Both players have spent most the season on the bench or the treatment table.

Brilliant response, Like A Virgil.

Of course it shows that we have a deep squad. He is a bit part player now, at the second half of the season. And he has scored more than the beloved deli ali.

Do you not agree that we have a deep squad? I think its amazing that one of our squad players has out scored one of spurs best players. Ali has played way more minutes than shaq.

Virgil my mate, that is my point. Shaq has sat on the bench a lot. We have a strong bench and a strong squad.

The fact he hasn't played much but has out scored one of spurs super stars. That tells me we have a deep squad with a lot of class. Players like origi, Sturridge, shaqiri, lallana, lovren, keita. Either gini/ hendo/ milner.

{Ed025's Note - a deep squad with a lot of class robbie?????? your having a giraffe, origi, studge, shaq, lallana and lovren is the weakest bench of any of the top 6, they have offered basically nothing to the team this season and its all credit to the first team for how they have performed without any creditable back up, now i know we all have tinted glasses on at times mate...but you have just taken it to the extreme..

Shaq scoring against utd (and an over head kick in pre-season)
Origi scoring against everton and bayern (or was it Southampton? )
Keita scoring 2 big goals.
Lallana coming in and playing well.
Lovren, who played in the 2 big fonals last year. Kept ronaldo quiet in the ucl final.

We have loads of midfielders:
Hendo
Milner
Gini
Fabhino
Keita
Lallana
Oxlade Chamberlin
Shaqiri

Only three can play, that leaves 5 class players. We DO have a strong bench

I really like origi, he has totally won me over. We could do with losing Sturridge although he scored a cracker at the bridge and was scoring a lot when he played the in thr early part of the seadon, as he didn't go to the world cup. Replace him with an exciting younh forward.

Our midfielders are so versatile though. Hendo has played dcm, rb, rm.
Milly has played lb dcm lm rb

If you have gini, keita, lallana, shaqiri and the ox on the bench, how can you say it is a weak squad. Sturridge sitting there, origi and lovren.

Its the full backs we need. Both lb and rb.

Migs is a poor keeper but not too bad for a back up. Same with moreno.

{Ed025's Note - you are stating one off incidents robbie, origi is awful and his season is defined by a lucky goal against everton which was more to do with pickford than him, shaq started quite well but has reverted to type as a selfish player who plays for himself and his days at liverpool are numbered, lallana is a crock and has been stealing a living for a long time now, sturridge has lost interest and prefers a life on the treatment table than the field, lovren is simply not good enough to be playing at the top level imo and makes too many mistakes to be a regular starter, if you think moreno and migs are not too bad as back ups then i think that tells us everything we need to know about your football knowledge mate..

Our midfield is really solid, and the bench is also deep with Fabinho, Hendo, Gini, Milner, Keita and Ox all very capable starters, and Shaqiri a useful option too. I agree with Ed25, that Lallana used to be a good player but injuries mean you can’t really qualify him as an option anymore.

Away from the midfield is where we lack real depth, upfront I see Origi as useful, but nowhere near the quality of the starters, and Sturridge is well off the pace.

At the back, our CB options behind VVD and Gomez aren’t bad, but both Lovren and Matip have a mistake or two in them. Our cover for FBs is also very weak, and although mitigated by Milner’s ability to play FB, we need to address this urgently in the off season given how demanding we are of the FBs.

Migs isn’t a backup I’d like to see starting many games, but then not many sides have much better.

Overall I think we have a solid bench but a strong forward and a top FB away from being where we need to be vs the likes of Barca, Man city etc.

You start talking about this season and then say Lovren played in the 'two' big finals last year.
And how you can even bother with Sturridge is beyond me.

{Ed025's Note - me too rigsby..

Sorry Robbie, Ed is (mostly) right here. Origi reverted to form against Porto in which he was yanked at half time after contributing nothing. Migs hasn't been called upon so can't be judged this season, Lalla a has done OK when brought in but his longterm future is elsewhere. The less said about Moreno the better, even when Robertson was banned and Milner played LB, he didn't even get in the squad. I disagree with Ed regarding Lovren, what top six time has a 3rd choice defender of Lovren quality?

Ed you mention Shaqiri’s days are numbered do you think he will Be here at the start of next season?

{Ed025's Note - i very much doubt it SR, he has fell out with klopp and jurgen is not a big fan of his selfish attitude so imo he will be looking to move him on mate..

With reference to Origi getting yanked at half time.
Aside from Porto where he was pretty awful, I thought Origi had been good in his recent cameos.
I thought it was unnecessarily harsh to sub him at half time considering the tie was effectively in no danger at that point and he'd benefit more from the game time.
Isn't it the case that Klopp has looked to Origi when in need of a late goal recently and I think he has provided an attacking spark when introduced off the bench.
Isn't it unfair to expect Origi to offer something off the bench when we are desperate for a goal but when we are comfortable and the player is the one off the pace he doesn't get the second half to turn it around?

11.) 19 Apr 2019
19 Apr 2019 11:24:20
How can you judge the depth of our squad? They never get a run in the side so the only evidence is one off cameos.
That’s part of the problem, Klopp doesn’t utilise thesquad so fringe players lose match fitness/ sharpness.

Shaq has been a good signing for £8m.

12.) 19 Apr 2019
19 Apr 2019 11:46:15
Lovren is a good, experienced centre back to have in the squad imo. Makes mistakes yeah but he's a champions league and world cup finalist who would get into most teams in Europe.

13.) 19 Apr 2019
19 Apr 2019 12:24:00
Matip seems to have edged ahead of Lovren to be our fourth choice CB next season. What we don't have is an adequate replacement for Van Dijk or Gomez when they are unavailable. This will be addressed in the summer window.

14.) 19 Apr 2019
19 Apr 2019 12:36:34
Robbie why post all that because you've made me agree with ed025, which I despise doing. No wonder we're hated when our blinkered fans come up with nonsense like this.

15.) 19 Apr 2019
19 Apr 2019 14:23:58
Sorry Robbie but youve just used one metric about two players and used it to suggest an answer to a larger scenario. So what if Shaq has out-scored Deli Alli, we still don’t have a lot of depth in the squad. Your making 2 + 2 = 5.

Cheers Ed! I won’t forget his contribution during the autumn period but I didn’t think he would be able to adapt fully. Be interesting to see if we get a little profit off him!

Hope you have a good Easter!

{Ed025's Note - yeah SR he started off well but does not really fit the brief of what klopp is trying to instill in his players, and a very good easter to you mate..
