Hi Ed’s, I know a few years back, we were talking about regular CL attracting a better quality players, or changing our targets slightly.

Does winning the prem or not affect our summer targets? Maybe not positionally, but quality maybe?

{Ed002's Note - No. What are you expecting to happen?}

I’m not sure what you mean ed?

Just when Klopp took over he signed players like matip, mane and gini, who weren’t mostly that highly rated. When we secured CL football we signed vvd, salah and Keita who were much more highly rated. When we got to CL final, we then got Alisson and Fabinho, who I don’t believe we would have achieved if we weren’t consistent top 4.

I was just wondering if our targets would change if we were champions?

{Ed002's Note - They were Klopp's choice. van Dyke arrived as a result of cheating and cost the club far more than they wanted to pay, Keita was incredibly expensive player to sign, trouble and has only had a handful of decent games. Klopp did not want Salah. Fabinho was considered the previous season. I don't see why the targets would suddenly change - where will all of these "marquee" players get in the squad?}

I wouldn't expect high-end players to say "oh, Liverpool didn't win the league or champions league, they only finished a close 2nd and got to the quarter/ semi/ final, i'm not signing for them". The players don't get retrospective medals when they sign, and nobody knows what will happen next season, so this season's haul shouldn't really matter.

That, and we have a great team and not much need for a raft of world-class superstars.

I didn’t say there would be a lot of players, nor ‘marquee’, I was just wondering if it changed things at all.

It was just a question ed, I’m sorry I asked.

{Ed002's Note - If you think about it, how likely do you think it is that Liverpool will change the players they are interested in during May when the season is over?}

We 've been buying at the top shelf for while. Van Dijk, Alisson, fabinho were ready already and not up and comers. These were highly sought players by top clubs.

Firmane I see your point and my 2 pence worth is:

In what position do we need to strengthen the first team. Other than a number 10 I can't think of anyone. Even then a number 10 May not be a priority and lallana may leave.

We need under study players imo and if that is the case, we can't be spending big or getting big names.

For example. De ligt last night. Would we go in for him. No imo. Why. As we have gomez.

We may need to replace a defender if one leaves and that's it. I can't see any big player signing to sit behind vvd and gomez.

We may need to replace sturridge but once again that may be with a number 10 and a youngster like Brewster.

I can't see us buying big this summer because we don't need to.

I wasn’t imaging changing as such, but as you have explained before, we scout hundreds of players, I was wondering if it’s like if we win the league, we will go for XYZ and if not we will target so and so.

Thank you for answering the original question, it is appreciated, honestly.

I am not trying to be awkward at all, just the reason I ask is because I don’t know the answer, not because I was to sign messi ronaldo and neymar as squad players.

{Ed002's Note - I would not expect any change of direction if and when the league is won.}

Understand what you're saying Ravi but I disagree, we need to be signing players good enough for our first team to push the lads on. We've had a fantastic season regardless of where we finish in the end but only way we can keep momentum running through to next season with players who can either slot into the first team or at least challenge for a place.

I think in this day and age of agents running (or ruining) the transfer market the profile and more importantly the financial muscle of a club would significantly change the players you can sign.
You might be scouting players thinking you’ve got no chance of signing say a De Ligt but then he sees how you’ve won the CL or PL and wants to be part of that so gets his agent to have a word and hey presto, your transfer targets have changed.
I don’t think winning things would particularly change who the club actively scouts but it surely would change players attitudes towards joining you? Then they have their agents to do the rest.
I might be way off but that seems to make sense to me 🤷‍♂️.
