Good result last night and I think we got away with one with Salahs tackle (I thought with var it was a def red as looked even worse in slow mo) . If that was Ramos we would be baying for blood.

{Ed001's Note - it did look a red, only thing I can think of is that they thought he was being pulled back, which caused him to lean back so his foot was raised higher than he intended. He certainly didn't stamp, but it was over the ball and landed on the guy's ankle, so it seemed, at the very least, it has to be a yellow card.}

Yes. We got Away with one there id say. If he had received a straight red, would he have also missed more 'Potential'games.

Anyone know if UEFA have right to review after a game? The shocking way VAR is working is that we still don’t know if they reviewed it during the game!

{Ed002's Note - By exception if something was a "serious missed incident".}

Am i right in thinking nothing was given as VAR can't be used for yellow card incidents? So in that scenario it was either all (a red) or just play on.

I don't think the people in charge of the coverage helped either, there was footage from all over the shop which just confused matters.

{Ed002's Note - It may be used to confirm red cards as being correct.}

Was it reviewed using VAR?
Surely there can be no further action by UEFA- as that would mean it would be a double-seriously-missed-incident.

{Ed002's Note - I have answered this already.}

That was a red card any other day and anywhere else on the pitch. I also think Danilo's lack of a histrionic reaction helped Salah quite a bit.

Personally I think salah meant to stand on the ball as he often does on this occasion he missed and caught the player badly. I do think it endangered the opponent however I don't think it was intentional or malicious.

That was my thpught too ed01. I actually thought the var was about the foul on salah! (Commentary was in dutch) i thought the ref had a bad game all in all. People were jumping on each other and the ref wasnt blowing. I was constantly worried we were going to lose someone to injury.

{Ed001's Note - it was a very odd performance from the ref, he certainly does not let contact like that go in Spanish football.}

to be honest, I think if Ramos tackled the way Salah did I wouldn't be baying for blood. I mean he goes for the ball and misses, its a mistake and should be punished but sending him off? I'm not sure about that. I get the argument and what the letter of the law says, but if we say for example compare that tackle to when stevie got red carded a min into 2nd half vs manU, that is a clear stamp. I think the refs called it right anyways!

I have to say, I had mixed feelings about The concept of VAR, but based on what I have seen so far, it is a shambles. It seems to be creating more difficulties than it is solving. It at least needs simplifying.

At one point in last night’s game, the stadium announcer said “VAR review - potential penalty” - but the referee had actually restarted the game! The game carried on for a minute or so and then the announcer said “VAR review over - no penalty”. Shambles isn’t the word.

Regarding VAR, Ed01 has already said that it will be a disaster cos those who are running it or will be running it, are as incompetent as the refs VAR is trying to help and I fully agree with him. Instead of improving the standard of officiating and investing resources into making the referee position a good job prospect as a profession or as a job, they are trying to cut corners and make it look like they are doing something whereas they are doing nothing.
