Bit of light hearted fun
the best English Irish Scottish and Welsh players you have ever seen play for Liverpool (chose one)

For me has to be John barnes Ronnie Whelan King Kenny and Ian Rush
but have to admit im a massive fan of Gary Mac and Ray Hougton but could not fit them in to the list over the two I chose.

Having got back into football after my courtin' years (2002) scottish wise Robertson is likely to be one of our best left backs for many years. Such great character too.

Gerrard, Finnan, Robertson and I was born 91, so I think the only Welshman I remember watching is Bellamy?

Barnes, Rush, Sir King Kenny, and yes, Roonie Whelan. What a star he was, my fave player in that team.

Can't argue with your suggestions, Johncrow. I started supporting in the early-mid 80s so can just about remember the King in his playing days, most notably the 1986 FA Cup final!

Would be interesting to do it by decade:

80s = Barnes, KK, Whelan and Rushie

90s = Fowler, Nicol, Whelan (it was an aging Whelan or Phil Babb! ) and Rushie (again! )

00s = Gerrard, Gary Mac, Finnan and Bellamy

10s = Gerrard (although Trent might run him close depending on how he develops this season and start of next, but probably Trent in the 20s), Robbo, can only be Joe Allen as he's the only Welshman to have played for us this decade, no Irishmen have played for us this decade.

The 10s really were hard! Hopefully with Woodburn and Wilson we'll have some Welsh hopes into the 20s and the only Irish hopeful we have at the moment is Kelleher.

I can't out do Johncrow Junior's selection but as a backup 4 I'll go with

Gerrard, Highway, Souness and Toshack.

Great question!

Not old enough to have seen greats like King Kenny, but I'll go for Gerrard, Finnan, Mcallister (Expect Robertson to eventually overtake) and Bellamy.

Interesting how many great scots have played for the club, can't think of the last great scottish player who was anywhere near Kenny, Souness and Hansen.

I’m lucky enough to have been watching Liverpool since the mid 1960s and boy have we had some brilliant players (and a few stinkers, too) . My choices over the last 50 years (Jeez, you don’t know how old that makes me feel! ) are :

England - Steven Gerrard slightly ahead of John Barnes
Ireland - Steve Heighway just ahead of Ronnie Whelan
Scotland - The King of course but Graeme Souness not that far behind
Wales - Ian Rush way out on his own.
