Much to disgust but yesterday along with Scotland the other day showed the ugly side of football, but for me you need to punish the clubs heavily as well
If it is their fans then fine and punish the clubs alongside the actual people running onto the pitch imo
The indicent with George is just nasty but it is not just football this happens in society all over the world which does not make it right or acceptable just very sad
Thank you for the round up Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - you can only punish the home club for lapses in stadium security but, even then, it could just encourage opposing fans to cause trouble deliberately to get them punished. You can't prove someone is a fan of X club or Y club for definite really. My worry is that all these problems are going to see fences brought back. That cannot be allowed to happen.

Very welcome mate.}

For me Ed never fences ever, but maybe banning fans from travelling to aways games or playing home games behind close doors might make clubs sit up and tackle this problem head on
Also it has not been mentioned but the violence before and after games around football stadiums seems to be on the increase again or was it always there but just not highlighted as much?

{Ed001's Note - I don't think closing the doors will have any effect. This is always going to be a problem and nothing can really be done to stop it other than educate people properly. Unfortunately not everyone can be brought up in the right way, have the right home life etc to learn correctly. All you can do is minimise the risk.

The violence has always gone on. It has never gone away, it has just not been reported on until recently. Sadly it has been made to seem cool through hooligans writing books about their time and films and lads mags used to write stories on it all the time. So it will never go away, until that stops. While people think it is glamorous, they will keep on getting involved.}

The hooligan films don't help do they Ed mate. You get youngsters watching them and they try and be like the thugs they are watching, trying to be cool and all that, it's seen far too often.

Its not always the parents faults but a lot of it is down to the lack of discipline of a child imo and they'll turn into a teenager, be a little sh*t, join a gang and cause havoc even when they grow into an adult around genuine people at for an example football games, it happens every weekend and it won't stop anytime soon, why? Because all they get is a slap on the wrist. Its almost as if it's a competition amongst these thugs, who will be more thuggish kind of thing.

Anyway, thanks very much mate, hope you have a top Monday.

{Ed001's Note - violence happened when people disciplined their kids mate, I don't know that disciplining them is the answer. I wish it were that easy.}

Because the only excuse for any one coming on the pitch and assault a player is he is mental I think the assailant should be immediately taken into custody
And kept there pending a trial. if he is found to be of sound mind (which I doubt) he should be kept in prison and serve a prolonged sentence and obviously banned from all grounds.

Yeah that's true Ed, you aren't wrong mate.

{Ed001's Note - I just wish I knew what the answer actually is!}

Football seems to have a major problem with this, yet other sports do not seem to have as much of a problem with it, take rugby for example where the opinion I have is that fans are excellent together and provide more a family and party atmosphere yet is just as physical a game. Not sure why there is such a difference in mentality between different sports, or seems like it to me.

There is never one answer, but certainly....

{Ed001's Note - mate this is not the right place for all that!}

Exactly Ed01 and Salah. Yes definitely education from the parents, but then the parents need to be well-educated as well. Then comes the social life, the socio-economic barrier, the systems, media etc etc. There are no real answers for this.

Sorry, half expected that, just needed to get it off my chest. Things will get worse before they better, unfortunately. That’s how it works nowadays. People in charge are reactive rather than proactive so I think it goes beyond football.

Fences, bans and arrests will be all that can be done.

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, if it was in the right place it would have been an excellent post. I did think long and hard before deleting because it seemed such a waste but I had no idea where it could be placed.}

No problem mate, as i said, I know this isn’t a political site so I fully understand.

It’s not all going moobs up though, could be the best season for Liverpool in nearly 30 years yet. Come on the Redmen!

{Ed001's Note - at least that is something to enjoy.}

Agreed haizan. It's one of them subjects we can discuss from so many angles until we're blue in the face but the point is, we'll never get down to the bottom of it. All we have is opinions. I'd love to think a football match would be trouble free but that's near to impossible which is why I refuse to take my boys to one. I don't need or want them around that kind of behaviour.
