Eds001 what do you think are Jurgen's strengths and weaknesses as a manager.

{Ed001's Note - most of his strengths are around the coaching work done in the week, you don't just turn up and play with fluidity and interchange without working on it in training. Also he is a very good motivator. He gets that tiny bit extra from players that they never knew they had in them.

Weakness wise, tactics I would say. He is very reactive tactically, particularly with subs, and can often leave changes too long.}

I always find it interesting that Jurgen seems close to the players and often hugs them when subbed or at the end of a game. But, during the game he can absolutely lose it with them and rant and rave like a mad man on the sideline. Then, whistle goes and hopefully we've won and they're all in love again, hilarious. What a guy to play for though, no throwing you under a bus or openly criticising you.

burkey - am sure it has it draw backs. but I think klopp gets the balance right between friendly and friend.

Yeah, so many of his ex players speak highly of him, says a lot. No point being a great bloke and winning nothing though, so let's keep that faith going for this year :)

I think the biggest weakness of klopp is he is too much of a player's manager, too much of a nice guy. He will never turn red with violent anger and players will always find a friend in him. It works 75 percent of the season. There has to be a strictness too. In some situations he can be a bit more strict. Throw a tantrum or two, a photo of anger here and there.
Too nice is not always good.
I don't think he gets his tactics wrong much but yes he waits way to long to change things on the pitch.

Ed01 would you say I'm wrong if say Rafa is ahead of Klop tactically? But Klop is the better manager overall.

{Ed001's Note - probably a slight edge to Rafa, though he is a bit too defensive for my liking. Klopp is defo a better manager though overall.}

Aksht, im sure Sakho would disagree with you. Seems to me that Klopp is the best guy if you're doing what you're supposed to but he will easily turn his back and get rid if you disrupt his plan and equilibrium. He doesn't seem to put up with fools or mediocrity.

akrubbish why not ask Sakho how strict Klopp can be?

Too nice with the players he believes in. There has to be another layer in there. A much meaner layer. I think he protects the team too much. Which I feel is very good for some players as they need that to grow (mane, keita) but not so much with others who probably need a bit of bite and challenge (Hendo, Lovren)

Biggest weakness for me is he hasn’t grasped the concept of squad management.
He plays he same players too often and they are spent/ injured at the business end of the season.

Klopp has said it himself. "I am the players' friend BUT not their best friend". Klopp is a brilliant manager who like any other manager, has his weaknesses and Ed has alluded to them which I agree with. Anyone saying he is "Mr Nice Guy" is speaking from a position of complete ignorance of who this guy is.

Klopp is your friend if you do what he expects from you all the time and give effort every time honestly. If you don't, you will feel his full fury and the likes of Benteke, Sahko and the like, can attest to that. Look at the Hendo situation at OT. Hendo made a mistake and was prolly frustrated by being taken off and brushed past Klopp. What did Klopp do? He killed the situation right there and then. If Hendo were ever to do that again, he'll b e outta here in the summer, no question. Klopp also knows when to protect the team and when to give them a tongue-lashing whether in public or private so I disagree with the notion that he lacks a bit of man-management.

Klopp is a fierce competitor who has always believed in himself even tho others NEVER did. There is a reason why he has succeeded wherever he has been, in situations where he was NOT supposed to even be anywhere near being part of the conversation (has 5 trophies in his cabinet to prove it) . Klopp has defied HUGE odds to get to where he is and were he to give us the holy grail this season, it will be his greatest achievement as a manager, IMO. Here's to hoping.

Oh and btw Ron, Klopp rotated the most of ANY manager in Dec. this season. What was the result? Oh yeah, we won 9 out of 9 in that month (BEST in the PL this season) . Hence, your argument of Klopp not knowing enuff about squad management, has NO basis in fact. Cheers, mate.

Sorry Red Wolf but your post actually proves my point.

“Klopp rotated the most of any manager in December”

In December! But what about the other 9 months of the season? And what about my point that we pick up injuries in the business end of the season? That’s the point about squad management. You rotate all season. If you concentrate all your changes in one month it doesn’t work. Your fringe players need game time to keep them sharp and motivated. Look at Sturridge and Origi. They’ve come in for a few games because Bobby has been injured. How can you expect them to be match fit? It takes 3-4 consecutive games to get match fit. For the first 2 games you are a passenger.

Rafa is the master of squad management but currently Pep is schooling Klopp as his squad compete for 4 trophies and we’re running out of gas playing in 2.

His other big weakness? His mouth!

By that I mean some of the things he says to the media get him and the club in bother. He needs to learn when to deflect questions more.

Must say, for all the talk about his weaknesses he is doing pretty well to keep the club moving forward. It really means getting the best out of his strengths and that is getting the best out of others. Good on him.
