Well that was a strange one. All those injuries disrupted the first half and despite all your possession, no real threat or clear chances created. There were 3 real chances in the game and they all fell to us, great save by Allison, marginal off side for the won goal, and Smalling not throwing himself at a cross.

I learned a few things today. United have improved massively in recent months and even missing half our fist team still kept a clean sheet and could (should) have won based on clear chances. But there is still a gap to you and City and our depth needs improving before we can properly challenge.

As for you lot, I was surprised at how you played. Your football last year was mesmerising but it was all too controlled, dare I say you showed too much respect, playing not to lose as opposed to playing to win. I think the League will be won off the pitch as much as on it, keeping players calm and focused and not letting the nerves kick in, squeaky bum time and all that. I think you’re u should just go for it and try and steamroller teams, don’t over think it.
As a United fan it’s a lose lose for me as either you or City win it so may the best team win.

Truthfully I thought it was an awful game, I mean yes, the injuries in the first half were terrible - hope they ok on both sides.

But when, as a Utd fan, have you ever seen your team sit back like that at home and hope a counter attack would prevail?

Mane and Salah def off form today, in fact, Liverpool like that recently going forward the last few games

But seriously, apart from the Lingard chance was there any real chances? Yeah, goal disallowed (rightly) for offside, Liverpool on another day coulda got a penalty or two but seriously?

This game is not how the history between these sides is, or ever was.

{Ed025's Note - i dont know how liverpool could have had a penalty or two bill....they never entered united,s box..

Maybe we did show too much respect, or maybe we simply were just not on it. Either, I'll take the point. Every little gain matters now.

Good post, btw. 👍.

Respect to United AJH, loosing three players before half time and one in the warm up is not easy and would of wrecked all the prep for the game. But Liverpool were awful and got what hey came for, a clean sheet.

Irish bill is talking about the 2 incidents with McTominay from corners Ed 025 both would have been soft.

{Ed025's Note - oh right, i must have missed that den..cheers..

Lol, I missed them too. Lingard chance, offside own goal, Smalling not throwing himself at a cross, they were the 3 proper chances. Poor game, injuries didn’t help and the history of this game probably also contributed. I just think if Liverpool are going to win the Leage, they need to relax and play their game. It worked last year but the defence was dodgy, now with a much better GK and CB they don’t need to worry and just need to go for it.

It’s funny what pressure can do to people though, it gets in your head as I saw with a United in ‘92. We had the league won and threw it away, it’s not just about what happens on the pitch, if your heads aren’t right then it can quickly go pear shaped.

{Ed025's Note - very true AJH..

It was a poor game considering the quality of players out there and what was at stake!
I think neither team done enough to win it and both were quietly happy with a point.
Salah and Mane were both poor and I can’t believe he brought Sturridge on, Klopp may as well have played himself!
I struggled to stay awake I’m the second half.

I think for most of the season our midfield have basically controlled games and protected the back four without really being creative. The front 3 have done the damage by creating chances for each other. Teams are now allowing the midfield to have the ball whilst denying space for the danger men as they know the midfield pose little danger. If we had someone in midfield who was prepared to run at teams, shoot from distance and generally put a bit of fear into the opposition the front 3 would get more space as the opposition would have another threat to worry about. Naby was supposed to be this player but he’s not quite got to grips with the prem yet. Shaqiri could be the man but he does give possession away cheaply at times and I get the feeling Klopp doesn’t fully trust him. Dare I say it but we need a Coutinio type of player. I just feel that’s our one weakness. Could Fekir of been that player. Should Klopp unleash Shaqiri for a run of games, will Keita turn those glimpses of quality into dominating performances or is this just a blip and the front 3 will be tearing it up again before we know it. All I know is before the season started I expected us to be a lot closer to city but I didn’t expect us to be ahead of them at this point as they pretty much strolled it last season. Hopefully it is just a bad patch and we finish the season strongly and become champions. If we fall short I’m confident we will be even better next season and that’s an exciting prospect. Klopps creating a team to be successful long term. YNWA.

AJH, I don't know what you are here to gloat about. The game was pretty awful all the way on both sides and like it or not, OGS did a Mou with Pogba playing auxilliary LB position and THAT was before all the injuries happened. Don't come here and gloat about a damn thing cos frankly, if doing a Mou and getting a point is all you got to gloat about then I would keep my thoughts to myself if I were you.

We were not at it as we were quite dire esp. in the final third and all that BUT, I'll take the point esp. since Spurs lost. You on the other hand, still have a fight on your hands for the top 4. Oh and by the way, an offside goal does NOT exist. Smalling was offside hence whatever happens afterwards, is irrelevant so come on here like it was an opportunity to score cos it WASN'T. We are ahead of City and that is all that matters. We move on.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think he was gloating redwolf, he was merely stating that after 3 injuries the team had to reshuffle and all pulled together and that was the case, they did actually have the best chances in what was a dire game mate and i dont think what he said was gloating in any way..

Harsh redwolf, I think he was spot on and not gloating at all’s, and we were poor going forward, especially our front 3. While I think Matip could easily have won a penalty by having his arm grabbed and pulled back in the box, the end result was what we deserved as we just didn’t show enough desire. If we continue to play like this we’ll be overtaken for sure.

Also agree with Scootinio, it’s clear our system is a lot more reserved than before, focussing on clean sheets and our front three scoring a goal or two, but we need more threat from midfield as with all our possession I still haven’t seen a decent shot from distance almost all season. A threat from midfield would make us a lot more dangerous and it’s a real worry Shaqiri isn’t showing the threat he brought off the bench in the first half of the season. I was hoping he’d be the difference against the Mancs as it was clear Sturridge and Origi aren’t the answer.

If any of the EDDS r around,
Do u think that the front three, SALAH, MANE, FIRMINO are in the comfort zone, all recently signed new contracts, but if there all fit they play no matter what, there is no pressure on there places. they were poor today, they lacked urgency, most of them just seem to be going through the motions.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are top of the league - the side is playing well.}

I disagree with us showing you too much respect, it was the other way round for me, I thought Mourinho had taken charge again, you sat so deep. It was embarrassing for a team in such good form and this was the case before any injuries.
You did defend very well and where very organised and could have nicked it as you had the best chances, although only 1 I would class as a good chance (Lingard) . A draw isn’t the worse result for either team but for me it feels like you were there for the taking and it feels like 2 points dropped.

13.) 25 Feb 2019
25 Feb 2019 02:46:33
No but Sturridge is stealing a living, we looked fairly threatening until Firmino went off and Sturridge came on and we lost any threat.

25 Feb 2019 03:23:31
I don't think he's gloating at all. It was a good assessment though I disagree United should have won. Yes they had a chance but they weren't exactly open goal misses. I think a draw was the correct result. Yes united parked the bus, but they suffered 3 injuries and Rashford was playing with an injury, what else could he really do in that situation. United actually played well and completely nullified us. Shaw had Salah in his pocket the whole time he was on. In my opinion, Klopp made mistakes with the subs. Sturridge should not have come on and TAA should have replaced Milner as he was atrocious all game. I think the only players who can honestly say they did OK were Alisson, VVD and Fab. It was a terrible game of football and the injuries obviously didn't help. Unfortunately City won the cup so momentum is definitely with them at the minute, but they have lost Laporte and Fernandinho which is huge for them, so next week will be very interesting.

Very fair appraisal, AJH, although i think the difference between the two teams post-match is that Liverpool will feel they under-performed while Utd will celebrate a hard-fought draw. OGS will certainly be a lot more content than Jurgen.

16.) 25 Feb 2019
25 Feb 2019 07:11:24
I don’t think AJH was gloating in the slightest, I think that’s a bit harsh.
I thought it was a pretty fair assessment to be fair.

fair post AJH but i definitely think we should have had a penalty ( The Matip one) if that was reviewed by VAR that is a penalty everyday.
