So we draw and being one point ahead of City and the world comes to an end.

For heavens sake, who would have thought LFC would be top of the table after 27 matches this season?

Even if we had lost, we would still be level on points with City while they ran away with the League last season.

Just let that sink in for a bit.

The problem isn’t the one point ahead, it’s the current form and recent draws, most of them on the back of a lack of goals. our front three isn’t firing just as we go into the final run in, Shaqiri isn’t adding the cutting edge he was in the first half of the season, and our midfield doesn’t seem to be creating much.

We need to find some form quick. I’d really like to see us using Shaqiri rather than Sturridge or Origi if Firmino is injured, and playing Keita more.

We look like we’re running out of steam while city look like they’re hitting the top form. We really should have used the January transfer window to bring some more creativity into the side as we’re looking really devoid of ideas at the moment.

We are in late February only lost one game and a point ahead of city admittedly we aren't electric going forward at minute but the team deserves huge credit . Who would of thought at this stage we would be in such an impressive position I say get behind the team as we owe it too the club too not be negative, personally I think our squad is punching just above it's weight, a point today is a point gained from last season, we have too have faith as we are definitely progressing .

Our form is very worrying. No shots on target against BM and one today. That’s shocking.

If I’m a 100% honest I’d have taken a draw before a ball was kicked.

I can understand given the four injuries people felt we missed a trick I do think we could ave done more second half definitely, but the front three at present aren’t gelling.

It’s easy for me to say here but personally I’d have brought on Keita instead of Shaqiri today, when Henderson came off. I’d have also brought on Shaqiri when Firmino went off.

I hate this talk of "at the start of the season", its not reality.
a month and a half ago we were nearly 10 points clear, now we are 1. that's simply not good enough, and peoples apparent apathy that this is a good thing is just a bit puzzling!
we have problems and we massively need to improve if we want to win anything!

Disappointing today and we need to pick ourselves up and go again on wed against a Watford side who will have their tails up and an extra 2 days rest. If bobby is out on wed then that is a big loss but I would rather see a out of form Salah up top than Origi or Sturridge and Kieta in midfield to hopefully give us more creativity. Milner at rb today effected our balance and I think the substitutions were poor. The title is very much in our hands and to keep that we need to win games and not draw. If we drop more points this week and city don't then it's advantage them.

Max, a point at Old Trafford and top of the table is good. Putting that aside, the fact is the front 3 have hit a bad patch which is fair enough, but when it happens Liverpool simply do not carry a goal threat from anywhere else to help the front 3. Even our corners and set pieces are terrible.
I suppose the reality is that our squad is not good enough and we are unable to cope when our forward line is struggling.

{Ed025's Note - liverpool are actually top of scoring from corners with 11 mate..

One consolation from today, at least City are having to play extra time at Wembley.
That’ll take it out of them.
Hope springs eternal.

Ed025 I know that but Liverpools' crossing and set pieces have been awful for a while now. I'm not having a go at the team based on todays game only, I'm giving a fair response based on Liverpools recent performances.
I stand by what I say and this team needs a midfield that contributes more goals and assists. We cannot expect the big 3 to do it every game for us.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with you greenflash and i found that stat amazing, i said the other day how poor the delivery from corners were and salah in particular not being able to beat the front man, as you say if the front 3 dont score you will struggle to win games as the rest dont hardly contribute,,

Probably running out of steam cos of all the pressure the fans create, when Leicester win the league there fans were just enjoying the ride and supporting the team, not saying in December we going to win the league then when we draw or lose with 15 games too go the world self destructing! , enjoy the progress and support the team too the hilt .

Green flash how can you say our squad isn't good enough when we are top of the table and only lost 1 game all season? Some of the remarks we get on here after a less than impressive performance are nothing short of staggering to put it politely. I could only imagine how bad some people would have been on here if we had the December city had!

aussieMARK, my comments are reasonable and fair, I have never singled out any of our players for abuse or over reacted on the back of a single game, that is why I rarely post, especially after a match.
The reason our squad is not good enough is the fact that we cannot rely on our midfield to score goals and help out the front 3 who are awesome. Liverpool have been lucky with injuries in regard to the front 3, but now they have been struggling with a loss of form and injury, we have had to rely on Sturridge and Origi. Our bench is not good enough.

Greenflash, you are referring to a midfield which is part of a team which is top of the table?

We have the best defence in the League. We also have the second best attack.

We are top of the table with 'our not good enough bench". We have had many injury problems this season, yet our squad has pulled through to date this season.

Too many variables when it comes to the season we are having and then to pin point our bench when we are top of the table?

16.) 24 Feb 2019
24 Feb 2019 20:28:28
We have had injuries particularly in defence, but we have been lucky in keeping Mane, Salah and Firminho on the pitch all season. Their form has dropped and firminho is injured and their is a significant drop in quality on the bench and that is a fact.
Put it this way, when Liverpool hopefully win the league Klopp will buy an attacking mid or a forward in the summer to help the front 3, furthermore Origi and Surridge will almost certainly be moved on.

17.) 24 Feb 2019
24 Feb 2019 20:29:43
I don't think there is a issue with the quality of our midfield I think it's more to do with the similarity of our midfield Keita henderson Milner fabinho and gini all very good player but none of them score enough goals or assists as they all are centre midfielder we need someone a little more attacking but with work rate to match the rest.

18.) 24 Feb 2019
24 Feb 2019 22:05:44
The midfield was not the issue in the game, IMO. To me, it was the bad decision making in the final third. Each time, Mane had the ball in a good position BUT he kept picking the wrong pass at the wrong moment. People go on and on about the front three scoring goals on their own. Hang on a minute, Shaq has 6 goals in the PL this season and in case you have not noticed, all the players we have CANNOT be creative. Some have to do the dirty work and the others have to push the ball forward.

If you are looking for Fab, Hendo, Milner and Wiji to score goals and crate then you are supporting the wrong team. It is the final third where our decision making needs to be better cos like it or not, we don't concede many chances hence, we don't concede many goals if any.

I think the approach and mentality was all wrong. We again looked scared to really have a go and, instead of trying to open them up, resorted to the easy pass 9 times out of 10. Passing is slowly, aimlessly, from left to right is not conducive to scoring goals nor is crappy crosses from out wide. We have literally no one who could even be considered a target man (least until Origi came on) yet, for the entirety of the game, insisted on throwing cross after cross into the box. The game strategy, whatever it was, was completely wrong. We made things as easy as possible for United who were there for the taking after the injury nightmares they suffered. Instead we lacked the balls to actually go and try and win and instead played out the tamest of draws (in which United, despite their limited possession, created the better chances) .

We have yet to really play well in 2019, the form needs to change soon as that gap we have created at the top has vanished and, on current form, the team more likely to drop points is us.
