Just reading about Ozil's situation at Arsenal and thought at the right price he'd be a clever buy for Liverpool.

He's 30 but if he lowered his wages and we could sign him for a reasonable price he'd be a great buy. I think he fits Klopp sttyle excellently and I think he'd relish playing under Klopp.

They clearly want rid and we could possibly get a good deal due to his situation. He'd be an excellent feeder for Salah, Mane and Firmino.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect it may only be you with these thoughts. But Arsenal do want his £350k wages off the bill.}

His attitude is poor. Not in terms of work rate on the pitch (that is a total myth) but he doesn't look after himself and stays up all hours playing video games. Not to mention how much money he demands and genuinely thinks he is worth.

If he stopped playing Fortnite and accepted a 60% wage cut, sure, I'd take him. That'll never happen though.

Jonesred, I am struggling to see anything in Ozil’s game that makes you think he fits Klopp’s style perfectly. Perhaps you could explain please?

I don’t think his work rate is a myth at all. When he’s not on it he disappears. He’s also a flake. Yes he can pick a pass but he’s only going to go downhill now.

{Ed001's Note - nonsense. You are talking utter bollox. He was said to not be on it in the World Cup but he created more chances than any other player, despite Germany being crap and going out early. It is a myth that he doesn't work hard and only those who don't watch him play believe that lie. He tracks back, he covers more ground than the rest of his team yet still some clueless people perpetuate this utter lie that he is lazy.}

You know more about him than I do ed, I love watching him when he's on his game but it does seem that he shys away from the big matches. Is this a common misconception or is there truth in it?
Personally for the wages he wants I think we could sign someone as good or better.

{Ed001's Note - complete misconception. He is another of those players who gets uncalled for abuse over things that are simply not true. I have seen him chase back into the right back position to cover when Bellerin was caught up field, he blocked a cross and someone else picked up the loose ball and the commentator said about how well the guy who picked up the loose ball had done to win it back! When the ball was passed back to Ozil, the commentator just expressed surprise that Ozil had come so deep to pick up the ball. He will never get the credit he deserves.

If you give him movement to pick out, then he will pick it out. His problem is the team around him have not been good enough since he left Madrid. He still manages to create huge amounts of chances, even when Arsenal would miss easy chances galore he was racking up assists. I just don't get what people want from him. They seem to think he should play the Kante role as well or he is being lazy. No one said Bergkamp was being lazy when he didn't chase back and Ozil is even more creative than Bergkamp in terms of numbers of chances. Yet all he gets is abuse.

I have often wondered if he would get the same stick if he didn't look a bit odd.}

Ed01, looks like the perpetuation about that "utter lie" about Ozil not tracking back, by the media has worked a treat cos a lot of people seem to have bought that poor excuse of a talking point. I saw Ozil tracking back a tonne when we played them at the Emirates this season and in many other games over the years. Now does he go missing in certain games? Of course BUT who doesn't?

The media has made Ozil the scapegoat for all their problems. As if he is the reason their defence is crap or the reason why the reason they have slow starts to games. Here's another thing. If Ozil was as lazy as he is purported to be, how was he able to get near 90 caps for Germany, all under Jochim Lowe, who is a no shrinking violet? Just asking for a friend.

{Ed001's Note - I just don't get why so many have it in for Ozil. It is like the stick Henderson gets, 99.9999% of the time it has no basis in reality.}

High intensity sprints are the true stat not distance covered. The guys is like sturridge he knows its now expected of him so he tries to fake it, he's always just too late just too short to actually get there or he manages to get halfway there then the ball goes past him and he gets his excuse to walk. I'll never question his ability but seeing something nobody else does doesn't always make you the genius sometimes it makes you the fool.

{Ed001's Note - such a load of nonsense. So how do you make up more bull**** stats to deny he creates so many chances when he plays? I mean the guy is just too late and too short but still creates so much, must be magic then? A guy walking back after the ball goes past him is normal for an attacking player, or even defensive players a lot of the time. High intensity sprints are only relevant in certain contexts. I suppose you must have hated Xavi too? I mean he barely sprinted in his life.}

I'd love us to sign Ozil but I think the wages would be the death knell to any chance of that. Great player, superbly creative, I think he'd be incredible in our team.

I have also tried to make a post about Ozil, about he has been a favourites for Eds but obviously he is at the trough of his career.
So what happened to him now? Do Eds think he is coming back strong? And if money is not a problem, do Eds want the current him to be in the liverpool team?

{Ed001's Note - he is a victim of Emery's inability to deal with personalities and egos. Throughout his career Emery has alienated star players and frozen them out. Except at PSG, when he was not allowed to drop Mbappe, Neymar, Cavani. Whether Emery has the ability to get anything out of him or not is a different matter, his team selections and tactics are odd to say the least.

Who would he replace in the Liverpool team? Maybe to play the role that Shaqiri does I would have him, yes. He has so much creativity you have to find ways to get the team to suit him. It is just that I would not want to break up a team that is top of the league. You don't fix something that isn't broke.}

All fans need a Scapegoat I think Ed. Much better player than Ramsey yet some fans were frothing over him.
I hope he gets a move somewhere where he is appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame that Arsenal fans don't appreciate what they have.}

10.) 16 Feb 2019
16 Feb 2019 13:37:01
Personally I’d have him and Shaqiri competing for the same role and alternate them depending form etc. Think he would be a very clever buy and I don’t think his arrival would upset the squad if he arrived in the summer.

Lallana leaves Ozil replacing him in squad. He has great passing ability and a good free kick taker. If they want rid so badly hopefully we could snatch him at a reasonable price. Wages an issue yes but he won’t get what he’s on now at most clubs to be honest.

Sorry, I don't have time to read the full thread but I'd love him to join Liverpool, people talk sh*t about him constantly and it's wrong because if he's watched properly he's a bloody fantastic player. People just miss what he offers, like eople miss what Firmino and Hendo offer, two people there who are vital cogs in our team. These days it seems all people pay attention to is goals scored and goals assisted, when there's much more to a game of football then that! Whatever the wages, I'd have him immediately, he's a quality player.

12.) 16 Feb 2019
16 Feb 2019 13:59:08
Perhaps there's a perception of him following that game at Anfield where he went missing. Did we score 4 in the first 20 minutes or something? Anyway, Ozil didn't perform and I think we have an impression of him from that game, however he was specifically targeted by us and by other teams exactly because he is a great player. By stopping him you could also stop Arsenal.

13.) 16 Feb 2019
16 Feb 2019 13:25:23
Good god no! Fairweather player, great when the sun's shining and your 3-0 up, when you have to dig in and battle he's anonymous.

16 Feb 2019 14:52:09
Not getting into whether an Arsenal player is lazy or not. I used to think he was a great player and would have jumped at the chance to sign him but not anymore. He will be 31 in October and I think we can do better. You can argue the Arsenal team aren't him isn't good enough but if so, he'd have realised that himself yet still signed the last few years of his career away for the big pay cheque instead of going to a team challenging for titles and getting less wages.

15.) 16 Feb 2019
16 Feb 2019 15:00:10
I like him, he was brilliant at Madrid and although he’s had a tough 18 months he has done pretty well at Arsenal. I think Klopp could get a tune out of him but he would be a risk and one only worth taking if he was on less than half of his current wage.

16.) 16 Feb 2019
16 Feb 2019 17:29:45
thanks ed001 for the reply on Emery
appreciate your time.
so maybe one day Aubameyang would be his new problem?

{Ed001's Note - more than likely.}

Ed01, I was reading an interview with Pep Lijnders on the LFC website earlier today. Pep says that when looking at potential players for Liverpool, character and attitude come even before talent. I wouldn’t dream of claiming to know more than you about Ozil’s ability, talent and even his work rate but do you think he still has the character and attitude to be a useful member of the Liverpool squad? For what it’s worth, in my opinion he doesn’t.

{Ed001's Note - no idea.}

18.) 17 Feb 2019
17 Feb 2019 09:28:16
He was brilliant at Madrid, even C Ronaldo said so and threw a massive paddy when Ozil was sold.

{Ed001's Note - the fans adored him there as well Ron. For months after he was sold they chanted his name.}

We can't afford him and I don't see klopp signing a 30 Yr old on such high wages. Won't happen. I think it's the fact that often he doesn't "turn up" to the games gifting him the label "lazy"

When he's on it he is a real nice player to watch. Always seemed to play better for Germany than arsenal. Maybe that is something to do with the lack of genuine quality around him at arsenal these last 4 yrs.
