Ed001 can I ask your opinion on why klopp doesn't play Keita as the attacking mid is it because he doesn't think it would work as firmino is more of a false 9 and other games were salah starts up top firmino is better suited

Just think Keita is a very good player who of used right could really help the team.

{Ed001's Note - probably because he is not really an attacking mid.}

14 goals 13 assists last season he could probably do a job there to be fair.

Never mind they were his last 2 season my bad.

Ed do you think if Klopp could get a midfield 3 to exactly how he wanted we would see the front three going back to their old positions of Salah right, Bobby centre and Manè left? I just think that's the best positions for each of the boys, not that wer not doing well this year. Just feel Salah for example is better on the right.

{Ed001's Note - if it works why fix it?}

Naby is struggling big time. We need to start Fab in midfield with Wij. I just wish Ox was fit he'd walk into this team.

{Ed001's Note - I really don't get how you think he is struggling big time. He was dangerous and should have had a pen last time out.}

I don't get the argument of reverting back to last season because the players were scoring more individually. Yes, Firmino scored more as a striker than as an attacking midfielder. Yes, Mane scored more as a wide forward than as a wide midfielder. And sure, Salah was scoring just as many as a wide forward as he now is as a striker.

However we were also conceding a lot more goals because we were basically playing with 3 strikers whereas we now play with 1 or 2 strikers depending on whether you consider Firmino as an attacking midfielder or a second striker.

It works better. We win more games. Much as it pains me to admit that being more pragmatic works, it does.

What happened to just letting the front 3 play more fluidly rather than keep to one position? Didn't they used to switch around regularly throughout the match?

Players like Messi and Ronaldo tell the manager how to set up and who to play. I'm not saying that is going on, but I wouldn't be surprised if salah asked to play cf. For me he is too small and not tough enough to go up against two burly cbs. Maguire smacking him in the face for example. Salah wasn't so keen to recieve the ball in the cf position.

Mane on the left, salah on the right and Bobby at cf. He has taken the bashes all his career and it doesn't phase him, Firmino still gets stuck in. Plus I feel his ticcy tacky football works better when he is in the middle.

I think Keita will be fine, he’s still a young man settling into a new club with a new culture.
He looks a little off the pace to me which is natural considering he’s come from a much slower league.
I’ve no concerns about him.
Can’t wait for the Ox to get full fitness, he was one of our best players when injury struck.

nah MK we conceded all the time because migs, karius, matip, lovren are bang average plus we had inexperianced trent and long time injured gomez at right back and moreno playing the first half of season. Salah is better on the wing, firmino is good anywhere. we have quality at the back, we should be encouraged to play the old system, it got us to the champions league final and we would have easily won it had it not been for a dodgy keeper and salah getting injured. that second half of the season form was also similar to the form we are in now. we've been great this season but like most people are saying we are missing a gear. I think klopp will continue the same tactics for the premier league as it is working but if city start closing the gap then its time to stick our foot on the gas and no longer scrape wins. One thing is for sure, scrap the tactics for the champions league, we almost didn't qualify because of it.

Keita is a first season lemon.

Agree with wiseryan on this one.
Tactically, I understand why Klopp is going more with two holding mids to cover the fullbacks allowing them to bomb forward without inhibition. But I do think that having a front three of LW Mane - CF Firmino - RW Salah is better, potentially with someone like Ox, Shaq, Keita playing the role in behind (but more defensive than Firmino is playing right now) . But hey, I am no manager, and I trust Klopp knows what he is doing more than my armchair wits can think through.

Hoping for a repeat of the 4-0 start to the season today, with Everton doing us a favor against City midweek. Fingers crossed!

Our second half of last season form?
Let's take our last 15 games of that season shall we.

Lost 3 (Swansea, Man Utd, Chelsea)
Drew 4 (Spurs, Everton, West Brom, Stoke)

I hope you are wrong and that we are playing much better than that because otherwise, we'll finish at least 6 points behind Man City in May.

Klopping, i would not expect Everton to take any points at all off City, even though, no doubt the players would like to, but the supporters, (a minority) would not care at all if they took no points from the game, as that would help city. let's just earn our own points and not rely on anyone at all, to win/ lose for us, all the damm sweeter when we do win.

Am i reading this right? Top of the league, 5 points gap, People want to go back to last years tactics when we finished 4th if things get tight? Makes a lot of sense. Thank christ we are not managing!

MK, we were busy winning games in the champions league. Id say our win loss ratio is about the same as this season when including all competitions.

17.) 04 Feb 2019
04 Feb 2019 11:39:20
Swishcleaner - We finished 4th last year because we had a bad defence and goalie. Who's to say we wouldn't be even better this season, with the old attacking tactics, now that our defence has transformed into one of our strengths?

18.) 04 Feb 2019
04 Feb 2019 12:43:59
Adam- Klopp is the one ‘to say’ and I’m inclined to agree with him. The tactical changes have also helped build that solid base ( as well as the personnel obviously)

19.) 04 Feb 2019
04 Feb 2019 14:14:31
Swish - just because Klopp has "said" it, doesn't mean he is right. For all he/ we know, employing the attack in their positions last season - which was devastating, combined with this much better defence we have now, could be even better. Maybe we would be more than 5 points clear now.

Adam. He’s right cos we’re about 15 points better off. IF he did t change we could be on the same points as last year. ‘5 points better off is your guess’ the 15 points is actually what happened.
