heads up lads. before these fixtures we were only 4 points ahead and now were 5 clear so wev increased our lead at the top. city will drop points in their next 3 games. iv a feeling ed25's lot might do us a favour as silva is under pressure. so keep the faith reds.

i like the optimism, i have a feeling the opposite that Guardiola will run through everton!

i am hoping that Chelsea can pull one out the bag and get the double over them.

Agree about the point gained, we could have quite easily got beat last night.
Disappointed but 5 clear is better than 4.
Don’t bank on Everton though, they’re all over the place and City will turn them over for sure.

I don't understand the negativity? We have extended our lead over city. Its a positive result.

I notice comments saying hendo was poor at rb. More nonsense from people who know nothing of tactics. He was strong in the air (something trent lacks) he was composed under heavy pressure (always been one of my favourite hendo traits)

He was further up the pitch at times (remember, he was an attacking right mid for a long time) but so was robbo. When our full backs were high up the pitch shaqiri and gini covered them. It's called tactics, not irresponsible play.

We were unlucky, on a smoother surface Bobby would have killed the game. I know the surface was the same for both teams.

We had two stone wall penalties; first maguire on salah. At first glance it looked like a shoulder budge but watch it back, harry not only held salah off the ball (a legit move) but he followed through and smacked mo right in the face and fatty maguire was lucky. Var would have given a pen. Goal scoring opportunity or not, he whacked mo in the face in the penalty box, foul. If it was a foreign cb I believe the pen would have been given. He also fouled mane when sadio was through, with his pace, power and finishing he would have either scored or set up salah. Harry was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Ricardo clipped keita's heels just as he was about to shoot. I cannot understand why that wasn't given.

In fairness, I thought maddison had a decent shout early on when hendo held him back. My first thought was pen.

Mo penalty, I didn't think it was until I saw the slow mo replay.

Keita penalty, absolute stonewall.

Maddison, may have been just outside the box but my first reaction was penalty.

{Ed025's Note - some you get some you dont robbie...divine retribution?..

Not last nights Chelsea. Anyone think the players have stopped for Sarri after his comments? Seemed that way before and at Utd for Moaner.

Actually i wanted to ask ed01 wasn't that foul on salah i meant that wrestling move Maguire used a foul? nd a pen?

{Ed001's Note - he did use his forearm to smash him in the face, so yes it is a foul but they are not always given, even outside the box, so I was not surprised by that.

The blatant one was the one on Keita. That is a penalty. No ands, ifs or buts about it. The guy caught his foot and stopped him being able to make contact with the ball. It doesn't even matter if it was an accidental clash or he purposely made a challenge, it is still a foul. How the referee did not see it I fail to understand, but it was not the worst refereeing mistake of the night.

In the Southampton game, one of their players went flying in, got nowhere near the ball and took out an opponent, a clear red. Referee has a great unobstructed view and never even gave a free kick! I think you just need to accept English referees are inept. Not one of them deserves a wage.}

Two very important points dropped in my eyes I hope that ridiculous foul robo gave away doesn't come back to haunt us.

I think Ed1 hit the nail on the head with that comment - English reffing is terrible. I thought the ref and his team had an extremely poor game last night.

Some that come to my mind are:
- Heaps of incorrect offside calls for both teams (When Firmino nearly scored OG, Mane clear in box from cross, Vardy in on goal late on - which was a massive let off for LFC)
- Hendo on Maddison (outside box but seemed a foul to me)
- Keita pen seemed stone wall to me
- Maguire should've gone for me, no way anyone was catching Mane with his pace. especially Evans!

I would say I am not 100% sure about Maguire on Salah one. I probably wouldn't have called it a pen, but who knows in this day and age!

Also, I don't mean to only point to examples of Liverpool being on receiving end of bad decisions, I think both teams were, it's just the Liverpool ones fresher in my mind because you could probably argue they were bigger (pens + reds possibly?! ) - plus, red tinted glasses and all ;-)

We just need the reffing sorted out - I also believe the poor reffing standards and inconsistency across them is part of the reason for the increase in diving/ overreacting to slight touches. As, if a player tries to be honest they will never receive a foul.

Sorry for the long rant - ultimately I need to remember that we are 5 points clear. Which I would've taken if offered to me on Monday.

I don’t want to play to ed002 or ed025’s stereotype and play the victim but I think the media (and Cardiff Colin) focussing on ‘soft’ penalties we’ve been given (rightly or wrongly) has had an effect on referees. I think we’re going to go on a run where we aren’t given many.
Teams will probably pick up on this and smash into our players in the box 😕.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think that will happen ron but im sure refs do re-think things when they consider themselves duped by players who have dived, its only natural that with media scrutiny highlighting players blatantly cheating that they will think twice before awarding iffy challenges in the box...especially regarding teams that have a history for it..

Would VAR solve the issue? Or would refs still make the same mistakes?

{Ed025's Note - liverpool games would last longer than the superbowl if VAR was to be used for every dive KK.. :)
