In my ideal world next off season we would move Lallana, Wijnaldum and Milner on. and replace them 3 with Sancho, Maddison and Neves. we can afford to have 1 less CM as Ox will be back in squad and be like a new signing. i would love to see Lewis get the chance to be deputy LB. Throw in someone like Werner to replace both Sturridge and Origi. Would be genuine party time for me. may aswell be greedy and throw in Bassaka for Clyne. why not haha. 👌.

Wijnaldum?

Hmm, tough crowd.

24 Jan 2019 12:32:38
Wjnaldum are you serious?! He is so underrated and just because he doesn't score lots or do fancy flicks he gets overlooked. In my eyes he and now fabinho are our 1st 2 picks in central midfield. And his work rate and attitude is top class.

3.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 12:33:57
Wijnaldum is handed a new contract extension. It is Henderson who is surplus.

24 Jan 2019 12:53:41
Smurf what are you smoking. Gini out. Have you even watched us this year. and Maddison? For the money he would cost, but no way. give Wilson a chance.

24 Jan 2019 13:13:33
Smurf, please explain your outlandish desire to see Wijnaldum leave Liverpool Football Club.

6.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 13:38:12
Wijnaldum, I was completely against him as a player and didn't think he was good enough for us but he has proved me wrong. Wanting him out now would be daft imo. He must've seen all my blasting of him because suddenly he started to be more consistent! Fair play to the lad. Wanting him out now? Is wrong, if you'd of said this even a few months ago I'd of completely agreed but times change and he's doing the job.

Someone’s been having a play on the old FIFA career mode and soiled themselves with excitement.

This system suits Gini down to the ground. It would have ridiculous decision to move him on.

People need to calm down on Neves. He's a class passer of the ball but he is useless positionally and weak in the tackle. He's basically a Jorginho who can shoot, and he should count himself lucky that Moutinho is there to mop up his subtle mistakes.

Don't get me wrong, Neves will be a superb player one day and he is already very good in most aspects, but he has a lot to learn before he reaches Wijnaldums level. I personally hope he signs for City to replace Fernandinho and make their team even more top heavy.

9.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 13:49:16
Smurf just like Fruitba, I'm more interesting in what you're smoking. asking for a friend? Gini is the exact level of squad player we need, but on a serious note why don't you rate him? We all entitled to our opinions of course.

10.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 13:55:56
Ed 1, might you have embellished a little on the statement made by Brenden by any chance lol. Hilarious as usual, love it.

{Ed001's Note - the quotes are genuine quotes.}

11.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 14:26:57
We play a 4-2-3-1 more and more these days and Gini is perfect for that alongside a DM like Fabinho. I genuinely think that’s our best formation these days, especially against the weaker sides where 4 forwards helps unlock defences. I don’t see why we’d move him on at all kids given his performances this year.

I’d also keep Milner IMO, simply because he’s a role model in the dressing room and able to cover midfield, Trent and Robbo.

Lallana I get, but Ox will be back next season which will add the extra layer in attacking midfield he covers.

The real issue IMO is covering Sturridge and Origi who just don’t suit the way we play. I’d like to see us bring in a really exciting forward for one of those (eg Werner), and let Wilson and Brewster provide cover for the other.

12.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 14:37:16
don't get why we would want to lose Milner or Gini both massive part of the first team, I think Lallana Sturridge and Origi, should be moved on would love Wilson and Brewster to get moved in to replace Lallana and Origi. And a striker with more experience to replace Sturridge. I think swapping Wilson and Brewster will make the squad stronger. I hope we could get one more year out of Milner unless he wants out then we will need a new midfielder. but would rather keep Milner for one more year. would love de ligt to replace lovern and Matip with one of the youngsters moving up to fill out the squad I think between de ligt Gomez and Trent them 3 could rotate nicely to give them all plenty of game time.

13.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 16:42:37
The only ones I'd try to move out are Lallana and Sturridge. I'd try to hold on to Origi and Wijnaldum. And let all the others (Brewster, Ox, Wilson) give it their best shot in the summer and let the chips fall where they may. I'd even try to hold on to Matip as a 4th choice and for as long as his contract permits. Better to have a 3rd or 4th choice CB who has experience and knows the system inside out, rather than a novice who may or may not make the cut.

14.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 17:01:49
I sort of get what the op is trying to say. If we want to get the midfield to the level of our defence and keeper or the level of the front 3, then it needs some improvement. At the very top level 3 out of Milner, Hendo, Gini, Fabs are not quite good enough. One real top player needs to be added so probably one would have to make way.

I am still hoping Keita is that player.

15.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 18:13:56
At the very top level Fabinho certainly is good enough. He will get better and better. Cracking buy. We should just keep buying Brazilians, I can't remember when it failed us doing that.

16.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 18:29:57
ATM Klopp doesn't seem to agree Adam he didn't make the starting 11 for our biggest game of the season v City. I like what I have seen from him and can easily see next season him being better than the other 3.

17.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 19:28:47
Haha clearly on the outer there. but sorry lads just my opinion. i do like wijnladum but would much prefer Neves. He is much younger, already as good if not better and can play in multiple positions like Wiji. basically im effectively saying Maddison over Lallana, Ox for Milner and Neves for Wiji. definate upgrade for me. while bringing the age profile down, which inturn gives us more chance for a long stint challenging at the top. and by the way it is the devils lettuce that im smoking people 🤙 hav a good day eds n reds.

18.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 19:41:42
As fun as Fifa is, I don't see how we could afford any of those three. None of their clubs have any interest in selling and prices have been quoted as high as £100M, Maddison would most likely be less then that but Leicester have no interest selling so we'd still have to overpay for a player that definitely wouldn't start.

Madness.

19.) 24 Jan 2019

Smurf, thank you for confirming what I suspected.

20.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 19:45:46
I can see half this squad going if we don't win the league. If by some miracle we win the league I still see a lot going as klopp might just do a fegie and rebuild a new team.

21.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 19:50:04
Mark08, is the European Champions League final and top of the Premier League with 60 points after 23 games not ‘the very top level’? Those midfield players who you have dismissed as not quite good enough put us there.
Having said that, it is worth recalling in this week of Bob Paisley’s 100 birthday that the great man was always looking to improve his team and squad, even after they had won the League and European Cup. There will always be someone out there better than we have got - if we can afford them and if they want to come to us.

22.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 20:30:29
Wirral you are 100% correct mate. The players we should be replacing though are Mignolet, Moreno and Origi who are clear weak links. Milner and Sturridge are at the end of their contracts too. That's at least 5 players on my list to replace before Wijnaldum's place in the squad is even debated. 5 first team squad players leaving in one summer is about average though. We'd probably only need a few to replace them all. A second keeper, a versatile defender and a versatile forward. I do think we could see a shock exit though with Keita or Lallana being replaced by a top class midfielder despite what Klopp says to reporters about them both.

23.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 20:41:02
I really hope that Keita gets his act together, but I too am not sure about him, he just might not settle in to the premier league, and may want to move back to Germany, or Klopp might move him on, time will tell .

{Ed002's Note - He may well struggle to find a club in Germany.}

24.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 21:23:26
Wirral would you be confident playing the CL final this year agains't Juve with Gini, Milner, Hendo in midfield? I know I would'nt be.

25.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 21:30:15
Happy, you have already given up on Naby after being here for 5 months? I recall people saying the same thing about Fab (same for Robbo, Ox etc) YET here he is getting it done. I seem to recall Ilkay Gundogan taking 6 months to get to grips with the Klopp system at BVB after he signed with them. We all know how he has turned out, right?

Here's a thought. How about we maybe we could just support him thru his tough times and give him all the time he needs to get up to speed with the system we play cos he is clearly a proven, fantastic player before we talk about moving him on after him being with us for a few months? Just a thought, mate.

26.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 21:35:32
Mark08, I would be confident with a midfield of 3 from Fabinho, Hendo, Gini and the Ox - as long as Mo wasn’t put out of the game in the first half by an outrageous physical assault.

27.) 24 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 21:39:20
MK Scouser, sorry if I gave the impression that I am actively looking to replace Gini - I love the guy and think he has proven beyond doubt that he is good enough for the Reds.

28.) 25 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 23:45:05
Smurf, Wiji? Come on, man. I know he can go missing in games at times but for the last couple of months, he has been very good for us. He is a brilliant footballer and very talented. He can play all three positions in our midfield, he is that talented. he just has to keep being consistent as he has been and he will be here for another few years. Milner has been awesome for us this season and I expect Klopp to want to keep him BUT it will depend on what Milner wants and I'm sure Klopp will not block a move if that is what Milner wants.

As for Hendo, he is going nowhere, IMO esp. now that he is back to full fitness. He is a warrior who is Klopp's head on the pitch as he is the most tactically aware midfielder we have. If I would pick who should leave, it would be Lallana, Studge, Origi (even tho I rate him as a player) and Moreno. I won't be surrised if one of either Matip or Lovs left cos they are both injury prone.

29.) 25 Jan 2019
24 Jan 2019 23:49:54
Neves is a fantastic player, absolutely no doubts there. I agree with MKS that he suits Wolves, where he can be the focus of the team, with Moutinho to cover him. Maddison looks a good prospect, but I'm not convinced that he'd actually add much to LFC at this point - I'd expect that he'd do well to stick where he is right now.

However, I genuinely feel that our midfield is in good shape right now.

Firstly; I feel that Keita will come good. He's not shown his full ability yet, but I do think he will. Fabinho has proven himself as a shrewd buy - I had my doubts, but I was wrong (I usually am), he'll be a big presence in midfield going forward. Gini has been fantastic this year, so I have no concerns with him (like others, I did when we signed him - but, again, I was wrong) . He's really proven himself to be a great asset, you feel calm with his name on the team-sheet; which says a lot.

I think we'll see the likes of Milner leave, most likely. Henderson will need to be managed correctly, but still adds a lot of value when he's fit. We'll also have Alex back shortly and I pray that he makes a full recovery - I've absolutely loved his journey since he joined us; fantastic player, fantastic character (one of the signings I genuinely did have a good feeling about) .

I can also see TAA moving into midfield and flourishing over the next couple of seasons.

30.) 25 Jan 2019

in my ideal world i would just sign Coutinho.

31.) 25 Jan 2019
25 Jan 2019 06:07:15
I would respect anyone’s opinion when they tell me they rate Gini but for the life of me I just can’t see why. He doesn’t have a particularly great pass on him, can’t can’t tackle, gets pushed off the ball easily, doesn’t score and doesn’t assist. If someone wants to tell me why’ve they rate him beyond the semantics of “he’s great in this system”, “he’s underrated” etc.

32.) 25 Jan 2019
25 Jan 2019 09:36:40
Klopp Top, I am a big fan of Gini Wijnaldum but I accept it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint exactly what his outstanding attributes are (he is more of an all-rounder) but I will have a go. For a start, I disagree with you about his passing - he has a good range of long and short passes - and his strength on the ball - he is very difficult to knock off the ball. He puts in tackles, interceptions and closes down space really well. He wins the ball and recycles possession really well. He combines well with whoever else is selected in midfield, having the versatility to play several roles. He has a great engine and gets around the pitch really well, protecting the defence and supporting the attack. I accept that he does not get many goals or assists but I would argue that is not a big problem as that is not his role in the team and there are others who are really strong in that department. After all, it is a team game and not everyone is expected to fulfill every role.

Finally, this is what Klopp has to say about Gini after the Arsenal game at Anfield in December 2018 :

“He’s an outstanding player. He combines a lot of things that you need. On a one-on-one situation, he can keep the body between the opponent and the ball, then pass the ball. I don’t know how many positions he’s played. In the double-six he plays really well. He can play all three positions in midfield and that’s really nice. All the boys are really versatile, to be honest. ”

If he’s good enough for the boss, then he’s good enough for me!

33.) 25 Jan 2019
25 Jan 2019 15:31:47
I've been an ardent critic of Wijinaldum but, for the majority of games he has played this season, he has been excellent. I would not sell him based on his contributions this season unless he goes back to his inconsistent, invisible self. The fact is he has, by an large, been consistently good this season and probably our best midfielder (though Fabinho is pushing him in that regard) - I think others may be on the chopping block long before Wijinaldum.

34.) 26 Jan 2019
26 Jan 2019 03:10:36
The only people who want Gini out, are those who don't watch him play, and of course, saboteurs.

35.) 26 Jan 2019
26 Jan 2019 06:55:05
Neither gini or hendo should be surplus. I've always been a lallana fan but I think his injury killed his LFC career and I think he should join Bournemouth, Southampton or maybe spurs.

{Ed025's Note - spurs robbie?, i know they are desperate for players, but surely not that desperate mate..
