A nice read that Ed01. Thank you so much.

Ed, great review as always. This one I especially thought you had spot on, the only thing I slightly disagree with is Fabs, I thought he was a solid 8. He is really finding himself now and is a really important part of this team. Getting him was a real coup in my opinion. Keita hasn't found his footing yet, but once he does, watch out. The future looks really good for us.

{Ed001's Note - yeah maybe, I do love Fabs but I am trying not to get carried away.}

Great review Ed. The only one I've read that gave an honest and unbiased assessment of Henderson.

Every other match report just used him as a whipping boy to get hits on the page and pander to the uneducated masses.

I didn't want Henderson to start because I think Fab and Gini are better at playing the controlled system we now use, but Hendo was superb yesterday excluding one lose pass early in the first half which he then chased back to recover anyway. He gave me renewed hope that he could adapt yet again. Milner also looked much better back on the wing where he belongs.

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen any other match reports so I am surprised. I guess it is easier to reinforce stereotypes than go against them.}

Cheers Ed001, appreciate the insight. Hope Wolves can do us a favour tomorrow and cause an upset.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed. Though it won't matter if we keep winning!}

Henderson made some nice flicks as well during that game.

Well in Ed.
I was thinking last night after the match, I wonder what Brighton’s weekly wage bill is for the match day squad and management?
North of £1 million probably.
And all they could come up with was that rubbish?

{Ed001's Note - they were very disappointing, but Hughton will say anything from a game against us is a bonus so it is irrelevant.}

Exactly Ed01, whilst I appreciate the live updates I got from the live chat (was nice that I felt like I belonged to something big really) as I couldn't watch it live, I almost collapsed yesterday with the analysis till I watched the replay early hours of today and I went WTF was some watching? I thought that match was at best a draw for us in the past but highlights how far we've come as bossed it all 90 with them looking not as dangerous as I thought. Some posted that they even see a 1-1 draw towards the end of the match. I also saw a lot of bashing for Henderson especially after the first half and now that I have watched it, I can only say many have already made up their minds about him not to find any joy in his play. Feels unfair really as I thought he was instrumental to our control of the game. want to ask, Do you think Gross can step up and play for say a top two sides in the Prem? Really love to watch him at times. Nice piece Ed and Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - that is very true on Hendo, people have made their mind up on him and have decided no matter what he does it is crap.

I don't think Gross is up to the mark physically to play at the highest level. He is just too slow for a very top side.}

agree with you ed. i'm trying really hard not to get too carried away with fabs or anything else. I'll wait until mid april for that.

{Ed001's Note - I was struggling not to get carried away from the moment we bought him. I have been chomping at the bit to see him play, so glad he has not let me down.}

Honestly Ed it was embarassing. Even on the Official club posts on social media he was getting slaughtered for not creating anything and passing sideways or backwards. One post said "If Henderson had taken the penalty it still would've gone straight to Alisson".

I thought he was great. Clearly they missed the long diagonals he hit to Trent, Andy, Mane and Salah all game.

One match report described him as a "disaster" and another as "the worst player on the pitch for either side" 🤦‍♂️.

{Ed001's Note - the offal site is horrible to be honest. Full of imbeciles who just want to abuse the team's players.}

Spurs out of the title race (if they were ever in it) De Gea saving Utd and Ed001’s match reports are back . The balance of the world has been restored
Re the comment about Gini needing an away goal I would take any midfield goal home or away.

Spot on Ed001, I saw the whole game too and completely agree. We weren’t great at times but totally dominated! Apart from the Fabinho blocked shot right at the end, Brighton didn’t have a shot in target!

Cheers Ed001 cracking read. 1 thing you missed about Fab was his block in the box. Thought that was quite important and he read it very well and closed the space quickly. I think Allison would have saved it but never take anything for granted.

Thank for the read. Quality as always.

I think for Hendo this will never go away, no matter how well he plays. Playing sideway and backward pass to keep the ball moving, the game going is not as easy as many people claim (have a poor first touch, a poor pass, the wrong pass or pass to the wrong player and the opposition is all over you), and that’s not the only thing he brings to the team. He closes down, tracks back, presses, passes FORWARD, organises, stand up to bullies against his teammates, questions questionable referring decisions, etc

I’m just waiting for the moment Hendo lifts the PL trophy in May. He’s come so close as a captain to lift trophies on 3 occasions, I hope to God (and Fowler) that this time round he’ll get to do it as captain.

{Ed0333's Note - I reckon when Hendo lifts the Premier League trophy he’ll pass it sideways to a team mate..

I love Hendo and think most of the criticism he gets is unwarranted, but I do think Fabinho is a bit more direct at times in the deeper role, which can be a good thing.

Having said that, I don’t think Brighton was one of those instances. I think hendo was outstanding. He move the ball very well, kept the tempo of the game just right and made some great long passes. He was constantly probing for weaknesses, but in complete control of the pace of game, and without ever looking like he may expose our back 4 to a counterattack.

I like Gini in the deeper 4-2-3-1 as well, he’s been outstanding this season in that role, and his strength on the ball gives us a big advantage.

Hendo/ Gini or Fabinho/ Gini at base of midfield is my favorite setup with Shaqiri, Keira or Milner playing in a more advanced position.

{Ed0333's Note - Hendo is a great squad option in the seasons to come. He will be the experience that well need, that old head much like Milner is now.

Great review as usual, Ed. Hughton embarrassed himself with his pathetic comments as to how they could have gotten something out of the game. How he expected to do that with not shots on target, is still a mystery us all.

Like you, I thought Hendo had a very calming influence on the game. he did what he was asked to do as in control the tempo, keep the ball, and get forward when the oppo. presented itself. That is what Klopp wants him to do and I am glad he is doing that as capt. All the other nonsense from his detractors (who IMO, only slate him cos some other people are doing it)? White noise from people who are already biased and are not interested in having a good faith convo about Hendo's role.

{Ed001's Note - I was very surprised at Hughton, not sure what he was watching.}

Cool review, I’m liking Fab more and more, showing what he did at Monaco when they won the title.

14 Jan 2019 08:03:58
Ed you concerned a bit with mane at all? his shooting has gone very awry this season. He overall play is so good he just losses it when shooting. Maybe needs a session or to in private to just focus on shooting.

{Ed001's Note - not really, his shooting has always been like that because he twists and turns so much his balance tends to be all over the place when he gets into position to have a shot.}

23.) 14 Jan 2019
14 Jan 2019 09:37:40
yea that is may be why. its always seems he is out of balance when shooting. maybe its because his close control sometimes leaves him. he gets into such good areas, if he could sort it out somehow we would be just untouchable.
Do you think this can be coached? or that's is just his nature, he does love to dribble and run at defenders. he could probably calm himself and add that elusive finishing touch.
Then we have a player who doesn't even need to look to score! :D.
