For all posters repeating Gomes is "always injured" firstly a broken leg from a tackle is hardly his fault it is and secondly Gerrard has many injuries when a similar age due to growth spurts etc and see what a little patience did there.

I bet the same posters on here with their everything now syndrome would have suggested replacing Gerrard with A. N. Other and he'd gone on to be a legend a rival!

Ps you may have noted that we won yesterday, kept a clean sheet, didn't have one shot on target against us, Fab was potentially MOTM and Matip was back on the bench.

Yeah that's all well and good my man, but in the mean time whilst he has these "growth spurts" we are left with Lovren and Matip, who themselves are injury prone and not very good.

Gomez can have all the time he needs but in the mean time we are betting everything on vvd not breaking his leg in a tackle that wouldn't be his fault, because the house of cards all falls down if he goes anywhere for a prolonged period and that my friend is simply not good

One of Matip and Lovren can stay but one needs replacing with a much better defender.

Vvd, Gomez, de ligt and Lovren/ Matip. for example.

could not agree more Kloppsboss.

Kloppsboss, we have Virgil, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Fabinho, Hoever, Wijnaldum and Phillips who can all play centre back and are all in the first team squad.

There's rumours about that Henderson was also going to start at centre back vs Wolves before a late injury.

I don't think we need anyone else for the position. Brighton didn't have a shot on target yesterday.

Straight to the point if VVD gets a injury we are up rubbishs creek with out a paddle and that’s that!

Hoever and Philips to young, Lovren injury prone Matip not good enough so it leaves us taking our best holding midfielder playing centre back and yes fab done really well but this is Brighton we are talking about. This site is about opinions and banter and Not abuse so while us posters may not always agree with each other we have to respect other points of view as well as having our own. At the end of the day we all want Liverpool fc to be successful.

Gomez has been very unlucky with injuries. Hopefully the lad gets a change of luck now and would be great for him, the fans and the club if he gets a few injury free seasons ahead of him.

Reaching a little MK if you think Brighton didn’t have a shot because of our CB, s, they were poor and barely attacked.
Not saying we need a CB but would you be happy with those you mention against top PL teams. Also take in if VVD gets injured, who will be the leader then?
I don’t know why everyone has such a huge issue when people say we should buy another top CB, wouldn’t it be nice to also give VVD a break?

MK, I like your options BUT Wiji playing CB (in a back 3) vs a Brighton team that had 1 shot on target from open play in a 5-1 win last season and Hoever who I have only seen play once, should not be included in that list, I'm sorry. I agree that our CB's are very capable BUT they unfortunately cannot stay fit bar VVD. That may be a concern.

Gomez is still a kid and his body is still developing so there will be growing pains there, for sure. Matip has been poor BUT when he came back in, he upped his game and was getting better esp. with VVD next to him. He actually got injured in the Napoli game when Khoulibaly purposely clattered into him in frustration on an aerial challenge. That can happen BUT it was not like he pulled up in training or something.

All in all, we have to persevere cos you cannot sign a CB if one does not leave. That is the reality and the good thing is that we can always have Fab step in if need be. I don't care about the "If VVD gets injured" stuff cos NO LFC fan should be talking that way about our own players.

All of this "If VVD gets injured" talk?

If VVD gets injured, we'll find it difficult to compete for the league. That doesn't mean "spend another 75m just in case".

Of all the best teams in the past, the same can be said about.

If Arsenal lost Tony Adams to injury or later on Sol Campbell,
or United Stam or later Ferdinand,
If Chelsea lost Terry to injury.

None of these teams had a back up of the same level as their first choice. You can't just sign a world class defender "in case" your main guy gets injured.

You can argue that when City lose Kompany to injury, they have decent back up, but not at the same level as Vincent, and that's City we're talking about.
