Hey eds,
Do you know the story behind Klopp being a striker for half of his career then moved as CB? Such things happends a lot in the youth ranks so the players can find their best position. But playing for 5-6 years a CF and moved as a CB and play there for another 5-6 years seems strange.

{Ed001's Note - there are hundreds of players who do that every season. Look at Milner or the many many wingers that have ended up playing the latter stages of their careers at full back such as Joaquin. It used to be common for big target men centre forwards to be able to play at centre back as well, they would often make the change in the veteran stages. Rush started out in midfield, then moved forward, then dropped back into midfield at the end of his career. Paul Scholes is another one, first broke into the United team as a striker but ended his career as a holding mid. As they improve their reading of the game, players tend to be more useful in defensive situations.}

Spot on, Ed. It is nothing new. The great CF George Weah (one of the best CF's to ever play the game, period) played in midfield and at CB for his native country Liberia at playing at CF for his clubs AC Milan and at PSG. At the latter stage of his career at OM, he often played in the no. 10 role as well.

The great John Charles, Leeds and Juve.

I see what you say ed. But his case is he is still kinda young not a veteran. And his change is from the one side to the other side of the field, where he is asked to do a whole different things.

But yes I totally understand what you say. Thanks ed.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}

Not a ‘great’ but Paul Warhurst and Chris Sutton play both CB and CF at the same time. Don’t mean same game every week, but I recall both playing CB then couple games later up front. In fact Sutton was doing that at Norwich. Playing CB then scoring at the other end, then playing CF and maybe due to injury or opposition CB again. But he did well up front and went to Blackburn as a striker and again played CB. Chelsea I think kept him as a striker same at Celtic.
That how I remember those two players. Memories can be wrong so if anyone recalls different.

It’s not often it happens to top top players but a few examples above prove it does. More often than not it happens with players who are a jack of all trade master of none.

Yeah, EpicPotato. Gullit played the sweeper position at Chelsea at the end of his career, I think.
