I was really impressed with Ki Jana Hoever. The kid looks to have the raw ingredients to be a top centrehalf in the future. Can’t believe he’s 16! Wow.

On a different note, whilst 4 senior centrehalves is a sensible number the injury track record of Lovren, Matip and Gomez suggests that the 4 is probably more like 3.

For that reason I think we went into the season a CB short. Perhaps the fewer games in January will be a blessing so we can get Joe and Joel fit and ready for the rest of the season.

I think it’s easy to say we are a CB short when three are injured. Let’s say we bought a quality CB in the summer for £25M. Fast forward to January and that guy isn’t getting a look in because Joe and VVD are killing it and are injury free. Instead, we could have Mane and Firmino injured, and then the same folks would be raging on about how we should have signed a CF and not a CB.
Hindsight is fantastic mate, but don’t think you as a coach go into planning your squad assuming three CBs would get injured and none of the forwards would, irrespective of their past injury record.

I don’t think it’s hindsight. The collective injury record of the centrehalves was highlighted during the summer - the fact is Matip Gomez Lovren and Klavan haven’t strung together 10-15 games without injury. You might not be able to plan for injuries but you can use injury records to mitigate your future risks.

Perfect. So let's expand squad sizes to 33. 👍.

No just replace Lovren and Matip with decent cover that don't have a history of being injured as often.

It only takes one injury though and you can go from ‘bullet-proof’ to ‘sick-note’

I think we’ve just been unlucky with injuries to central defenders.
I would look to replace at least one of Matip or Lovren with someone experienced who can share the load with Gomez and also help him develop. Alderweireld would have been ideal.

We need better options at full back too IMO.

Hear that Hyppia is available on a free?

Just read a piece that cited Huth, Cahill, Wolschied and Florentin Pogba as the best available options.

Jesus Christ. Let's just play Klopp alongside Virgil.

Surely you're exaggerating, MK. Aren't they all close to retirement, they weren't even good in their prime.
Who in their right mind would right such an article? It was probably a satirical piece.

Nope. Seriously. Still on newsnow latest news I think! Something about 3-5-1-1.

I actually don't think Cahill is that bad and could - if our CB injuries were more long term in nature - do a decent job. He has a good list of honours to his name which a lot of our players don't and that winning experience can be invaluable at the later end of a season.

Still don't think impact bone breaks count as injury prone.

Repeated soft tissue tears, sprains ect alla Lovern is injury prone for me.

Cahill is so bad he can't get in the team ahead of David Luiz. He's also only ever been any good in a really deep line with John Terry alongside him.

I'd rather play with one centre back. He'd just get in Virgils way 😂.

Idontlooklikeklopp, since we signed him, in which season has Gomez not missed a minimum of a month with an injury?

The answer is none.

He’s a terrific talent, but his injury record is not great, regardless of the type of injury. For me it’s down to him playing too many games because he has to cover RB and is rarely rested. When players are tired they are more likely to get injured so we need to get a new RB in ASAP to allow Gomez to focus solely on CB. We also need to replace Matip or Lovren with someone who can properly rotate with Gomez and VVD so we can rest them and give them proper competition.

Pavard would have been ideal but he is off to Bayern. what's everyones opinions on bringing back Coady? For me he has grown into a fine player, a leader, liverpool through and through and would fit into a team playing a high line who plays out from the back.

{Ed002's Note - There was zero interest in Pavard and slightly less in Coady.}

Well perhaps Cahill can just come and display his medal collection to show our players what it's like to actually win something then MK?

Yeah sure johnny. Get him to bring Gabriel Obertan, Ben Haim, Djimi Traore and Bojan Krkic with him.

Come on mate. Medals mean nothing when it comes to judging an individual's ability. Last time Cahill was anything like a regular he had Terry on his left, Ivanovic on his right and a prime Matic in front of him, whilst playing in a seriously deep backline in a Mourinho side, just smashing long balls up to Diego Costa.

No way could he play in a higher line where he'd be asked to play possession based football. He's not had a good game since the 2014/ 15 season. It's all opinions I guess, but I think nostalgia is rose tinted sometimes.
