I have a question regarding a few current loan deals. It is my understanding that there are at least 2 players out on loan with an obligation to buy.

What are the benefits of a loan with an obligation to purchase? It seems like a drawn out sale, which makes me think I'm missing something, haha.

Any help would definitely be appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - there are a number of reasons to do so. The buying club might not have the money to complete the purchase immediately or FFP might preclude them from spending the money at that moment. It could be simply to put it into a following financial year or the obligation might come with caveats regarding the player's fitness, if they are known to have issues. I am sure there are a few other possibilities as well but I just can't think of them off the top of my head sorry. Oh another one is behaviour, if the player is known to have behavioural issues you would be basically giving them the loan spell to prove they have changed.}

Hey Ed, further to this.

I realise you said behaviour is one benefit for (I presume) the selling/ / loanning out team. Other than that, what is the benefit for the selling club? Is it just to get them off the books that particular season?

Just trying to understand the Danny Ings loan/ / transfer slightly more. He seemed well behaved so it couldn't be any issues with that. What do we get from loaning him out to the Saints and not getting to have him back rather than sell him to someone willing to buy him now (if there was such a team looking to do so at the time, that is) .

{Ed001's Note - because of his injury history, we got the chance to get a better price than we would do otherwise by allowing him to prove his fitness. He would not have got the chance to play for us.}

Thanks Ed, that makes sense.

I wonder what they'll be thinking over at Southampton. He definitley hasn't proved his fitness but still scoring goals! Worth the £20 million I wonder?
