Ed do you think Klopp might be tempted to dip into the market for a defender given our situation currently, or plug gaps with what we have until players return from injury?

{Ed001's Note - it would be difficult to get anyone good enough to join on loan or to sign knowing Gomez is nearing fitness.}

Ok mate, just panicking I guess with the injury’s stacking up all in the defensive area. Do you no if Philips or Masterson are available mate or is it likely VVD and Fabinho for BHA Saturday?

{Ed001's Note - I would expect Fabs.}

Alisson, Taa, VVD, Fab, Robertson, Wiji, Keita, Hendo, Salah, Firmino and Mane would be my 11 for Saturday.

I would be more focused on getting in a forward (and a good one, not a stop gap consolation coz we already have that in Origi and Sturridge) . One serious injury to any of our forward players, and we may as well hand the title to Man City on that very day. Gomez and Matip are back soon, so signing another defender will be a luxury soon enough. Though I would not say no to a quality fullback to replace Clyne and Moreno (why is he still at LFC) .

I’d try Gary Cahill on loan can’t be any worse.

Rather just play Hoever with Virgil. He managed last night against probably the best attacking side outside of the top 6, with Camacho 40 yards out of position and no protection in front of him from midfield. Put Arnold next to him, Virgil to lead him and Fabinho and Gini in front of him; that will protect him much better. If we put Fabinho at the back we will lose a lot of quality in midfield.

{Ed025's Note - i think thats asking a bit much of the young lad MK, i could be wrong but brighton is a very important game now and they would surely target him, i dont know the solution but throwing an unknown in there could ruin the guy..

MK we both know he did a good job but he needs to put a bit of weight on before he starts. He’s only a wee lad. Plus, Trent is still learning his defensive duties so possibly not the best covering role?
I’d hate to see a youth player’s confidence be shattered over a few games too early.

{Ed025's Note - im with you mate..

Agree Run the Miller, Fab is a better option imo.

I wouldn’t go for Cahill for the same reasons Ed001 wouldn’t be keen on Godin. He doesn’t suit our shape, or the high line. Really wanted him a few years back when KK was in charge and he moved from Bolton (I think) to Chelsea, but we played a different way back then.

Yeah, they have the old style CF who likes to give CBs a hard time, what's his name? Glenn something? He would target hoever. That said the lad is a better footballer and with van dijke robbo and trent, protected by fab and gini maybe it would work.

Fab was pretty solid and looked like he has played CB all his life, he was to rash in that tackle but it had to be made, and if moreno had been where he should have been, jiminez would not have had a free run at our goal. Fabinho is much much better in midfield and I think his directness would be great against Brighton. I'm with MK Scouser, I'd be sorely tempted to start hoever.

I'm a bit pissed with lovren and klopp looked pissed too. I reckon lovren must have felt a twinge before the game, in the warm up as he barely touched the ball or ran with it. He hit one long ball and that was it. I reckon he knew something was wrong before kick off but thought he could play through it. It cost us a substitution. We could have had salah, Firmino (who completely changed the tempo of our game. He is the one player, along with vvd and Alison who makes us tick and he is the guy we can't do without. ) AND Mane. Shaqiri was lost in the first half coz he had nothing to aim at. Ds didn't make enough runs and the same goes for divok. Camancho didn't time his runs enough. How close was that free kick! Another game we lost by fine margins. Keita not finding salah was poor. I can't believe a player of his ability played that bad pass. Oh well, we are out. Have lost another game. On we go.

Disagree MK, he has talent but each game in the league is crucial and if anything goes wrong it could hamper him going forward. he has time on his side and no need to rush him in imo.

I agree go with Fabinho and play a midfield of Hendo, Gini and Keita and we should do fine. I’d be telling Trent not to venture too far forward unless it’s a massive opportunity to score, and to make sure we lock the right down properly rather than leaving a new CB partnership too exposed.

11.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 14:58:04
But we only have 1 fit CB WYred, next in line is hoever. But actually Philips looked good in pre season. Maybe he is an option? He is a lot bigger than hoever even if he lacks the young Dutch lad's skill.

All that said it will be fab won't it. I'd play hoever at home against teams that aren't 100% physical, teams that want to play and not batter their opponent physically.

12.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 15:10:11
Fab is definitely a better option to Hoever, but I'm not sure we have a player to replace him in midfield. It showed against City. Both teams were just charging about aimlessly, and then Fab came on and dominated the midfield areas almost instantly.

I love Henderson, but he's not at Fabinho's level and I think midfield is where games are won and lost.

I do know what you all mean though. It's a risk to play a 16 year old for a sustained period, but Gomez and Matip are less then 2 weeks away from fitness. These are the only moments in modern football where kids get their chances.

{Ed002's Note - Garcia, Philips and masterson should be options.}

13.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 16:04:48
I thought that too Ed002. It's worrying that they were all less favourable than a 16 year old though. Phillips and Juanma seem to be constantly injured as well. I hope Klopp puts his faith in one of the kids Instead of a panic loan though.

{Ed002's Note - There won't be a loan to cover for a couple of weeks.}

14.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 16:19:30
I'm with you mk. My only worry would be taa AND Hoever on that right side. There is not enough brute strength there to defend in this tough Premier league.

If not get a loanee in. We have 1 senior cb and although the others are close to recovery it's still three games and that could be enough to lose the league.

And I 100% agree about fab, he did okay yesterday. He looked like he'd played there all his life. But his directness, comfort on the ball and confidence to turn and actually play forwards without just lumping it is invaluable and completely wasted at the back.

15.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 18:29:27
MK, I like your enthusiasm for the young lad BUT let's take it down a notch, ok? Hoever is a 16 yr old who is super raw and in-experienced and if Klopp ever played him there then he is setting the kid up to fail esp. since Fabs can deputize there with less issues than Hoever would. Klopp won't be doing any of that, my friend. What we need to do vs Brighton is to give the CB's enough protection so all they have to do is defend when needed and not being exposed to every Brighton attack. This is where Hendo and Gini will come in handy as the double pivot to help out. That is where our tactics should be focused on and nothing more, IMO.

16.) 08 Jan 2019
08 Jan 2019 18:41:31
It's nothing to do with my enthusiasm for Hoever. It's more that I don't want Keita, Milner or Lallana anywhere near our midfield! I want Fab and Gini in there. Henderson off the bench if required.

18.) 08 Jan 2019

Could he go with a back 3 like last season with Gini and fab either side of VVD? TAA and Robbo wingbacks with Hendo Milner or Keita in midfield? 343 formation?
If we dominate the ball then we would have plenty of ball playing options available.
Now. shoot me down.

You say that Ed025, my old bean, but he does have previous against the same opposition. Played Gini and Can alongside Lovern in a 3 man back line. In fact I would say it is less a risk than playing that system last season. Can't believe you were prepared to shoot me without at least giving me a right to appeal.

{Ed025's Note - im old school bobby...shoot first ask questions later.. :)
