Around 10 months ago I posted on this site that vvd shoud be our captain after watching him at West Brom.

His reaction to the city defeat, how vocal he has been how we respond, his aura and how the stuck up for salah have shown he is the natural leader. His size and presence also endear players to look up to him and mean he has to be listened to.

My question is can klopp ask hendo to step aside or is commerciality far more important.

Nothing personal agaisnt hendo. I just don't think he has all those characteristics.

Does it really matter who has the armband? I'm pretty sure VVD is a captain in his own right without needing an armband and there is a reason why klopp still keeps Hendo as captain. Why not just trust our manager and players who have us top of the league than complain about trivial matters?

Klopp has never been one to make a fuss over captains. Kehl was club captain at Dortmund for years and was never ceremoniously replaced when he spent the later years on the bench. Hendo and Milner will remain 1 and 2 but the boys already voted in VVD as 3rd choice so he’ll be captain 80% of the time I think anyway.

I don’t think VVD will change any of those characteristics whether he has an armband on or not.
He’s a leader and he doesn’t need an armband to prove it.

Maybe we should sign Nikolai Valuev? His "size" makes Virgil look tiny.

Wahaha MK.
Then we’ll have him play as CF in a friendly against RM so he can give Ramos a schooling.

The captain debate. Again?

Out of interest - does a club have to in some way decalre their club captain to the FA?

{Ed002's Note - The FA? No.}

The thing is we have leaders in all our lines. Bobbys has been wearing it a couple of times for Brazil, Mané for Senegal, Fabinho for Monaco, Robbertson for Scotland, Gomez for England u21, Hendo for us and England and VVD for Saints and the Oranje. I'm not sure Becker were captain for Roma, but he's a commander compared to Simon and Karius. I would choose VVD, not only because he seems the most naturally one, but he plays every single minut, and I can't see why he wouldnt, unless he's being rested, which he rarely are. The midfield are more exposed to rotation.

Regardless of the arm band, I think we have three leaders on the pitch. As I sit fairly close ( ish ) to the pitch, you can clearly see Alisson organising, then VVD barking orders then further up we have Hendo.

This to me is only a good thing as you need more than one leader on the field imo.

When you need him most a Captain steps forward and wins a game for you plays that pass to get the winning goal puts in that crunching tackle to get the crowd and his team going
Hendo last done any of the above when?
Everyone and his dig knows VVD is captain so for me it is no issue.

If it was picked today it would be VVD. but we have a captain. He has been at the club for years, through good times and bad. He has done us proud and steadied the ship when needed.

But what is an armband? Its an abstract concept really. The question is; do we have a leader? Yes we do, we have at least 6.

Really? This whole capt. crap again? Some people just won't give up until their wet dream of Hendo being deposed as captain and VVD assuming the mantle, comes to pass. Can you people not take a hint? Hendo is club capt. and Milner is his deputy. That will NEVER change. How do we know that? Klopp has spoken about it and clearly, is done talking about it BUT clearly, some people are not satisfied. As long as Hendo is doing what Klopp wants as capt., VVD will NEVER see the armband and some of you are goona have to get over it and really, get over yourselves cos you know nothing about what is going on in the dressing room amongst players and coaches. Peace!

Johncrow Junior, I don't understand your post, really. "When you need him, a capt. steps forward and wins a game for you. ". Please, could you tell me in what rule book that is written in as a job requirement for capt. or did you just make that up? Also if that was the case, how did the likes of Maldini, Baresi, Deschamps and so on have great careers as capt of their clubs and national teams (something Hendo was for a period) while playing in defence or as DM (something Hendo was for a period) with the inability to "step forward and create the pass to win you the game"? Didn't think so. Hendo is not asked to "make a pass to win the game for us" ans that is not his job and neither is that VVD's job.

Hendo's job is to lead the team and put his team mates in a position to perform and cover for them when they screw up and gather the troops when things are not going well. You know, like he did vs Roma at Anfield where he bossed Naingolaan off the pith or vs PSG when he bossed their midfield or vs Napoli, City in the CL last season and on and on. Oh, I guessed you missed that in your post. Hendo is doing a fantastic job of what Klopp and his ream mates (who respect him by all accounts, per Ed01) and if that keeps happening, VVD will NEVER be capt. over him regardless of the disgraceful way you discredit Hendo with NO facts to back it up. Peace!

Milner is 3 yrs older than hendo and hendo is 4 yrs older than vvd so virgil will probably become captain one day. You can't say never. Leave it at that. We are top of the league, it must be working. We have all seen that vvd is a leader. In our best 11 there are maybe 2/ 3 players who are not leaders or who have not been leaders. But there are players outside the best 11 who can lead and motivate too.

Redwolf you can continue this love at all cost for Hendo but im not here to follow Ed001 (with all due respect to Ed001) I have my own opinion and stated what I feel a captain should be
Im not sure how you know what is going on in the dressing rooms as I sure don't hence why I never mentioned it, I say what I see on the pitch and that is a man who should taking games by the scruff of the neck when his team needs them and leading them to victory
ala Keane Viera Gerrard Lampard midfielders who made the difference over countless games time and time again and not all were captains
If you want to follow the pack of sheep who say Hendo is good enough to command a starting place in our midfield then good for you not me I have my own opinion
He is not even the best Midfielder in his postion at the club imo
I don't rate him but support him coz he plays for my team end off but do I believe he should be captain not in a month of Sundays
Liverpool look better with Gini Fabinho and Keita or Milner and weather you admit it or not that is the midfield which offers us the best chance of winning the big games
Hope this explains it mate Hendo does not do enough for me to be captain on the pitch end off.

JJ, I see you did not address any of the facts in my post. I am not following Ed01. He know more about what is going on in the background than any of us on this forum. He gives us info none of us (Including yourself) do not know. If you have better info then prove him wrong instead of posting stuff with no facts to back it up.

You comparing Hendo to Lampard, Gerrard, Vieira, Keane and the rest, just shows that you have NO real arguments or calling me sheep or whatever childish name-calling you are into, shows your ability (or lack thereof) to engage in any debate than anything else. Why? You are comparing him to legends of the world and English game, which shows you are supremely biased in your assessment. Why would you compare Hendo to near once in a lifetime individuals of which we may never see again knowing d=full well they are miles ahead of him? It's like comparing Coutinho to Maradona cos they both played the no. 10 position and he is not living up to what Maradona did so he must be crap. Your biased is clearly not showing here.

Hendo has earned everything he has gotten in his LFC career after he told BR to do one when he wanted to get shot of him to Fulham in 2012 in favor of the Welsh Xavi and he rose to capt. of LFC and of England. You saying he is not the best mid. at LFC or other players are better than him, is your opinion and nothing more. I posted facts, as you can read.

Unlike you and your impossible comparisons, I don't want him to be SG, Keane, Adams or whoever. I want him to be the best capt. he can be and lead us his own wa, the way Klopp wants him to lead and as long as he is doing that, you are free to live in your own bubble, one where only Keane, Viera, Lampard or "insert whoever here" should be who any capt. whould be like cos after all, we are all born with personalities similar to these guys.
