Its funny seeing ed002 acting as pantomime villain regarding the salah 'diving' incident. I do think ed002 has a point though. I remember last season when we played everton, lovren touched calvert lewin on the back and we conceded a penalty. At the time the majority of us on this site called calvert lewin a cheat and i think it is very similar to the salah incident. He could have stayed on his feet just like calvert lewin could have.

{Ed0333's Note - I actually thought the Calvert Lewis incident was a penalty mate.

Neither were penaltys. Foolish defenders.

Neither were penalties, Ed IMO. However, what gets my goat is the continued shifting of the goalposts when pundits and the like start saying what is a penalty or not. For example, the Calvert-Lewin pen according to many, was a penalty cos Lovren "touched him hence, he "has" to go down. That is patently false cos there is no rule in the books that say you cannot touch or body-up on a player in the box. Big Scam and Shearer said a the time, that Lovs should not have touched him (Shearer) or that a "soft pen" does not exist (Big Scam) cos it was convenient for them. Same with Kane at Anfield. They said cos Karius grazed him (minimal contact again), he had "a right" to go down, right?

Now the very same people are now saying that Salah dived (with clear and similar minimal contact on him) . So according to these "experts", Calvert-Lewin and Kane had a "right" to go down with minimal contact YET Salah doesn't? Salah gets to be investigated for diving yet Calvert-Lewin and Kane don't? This is my issue here. They need to stick to a story, be consistent and stop making it up as they go on.

{Ed0333's Note - we’re gonna win the league mate.

Does it matter? That games gone, scored 3 other goals. Bring on the Arsenal tomorrow. In my opinion we played very poorly at the Emirates and I think we'll put in a top performance at Anfield.

I'm actually ok with either beong penalties. It becomes very subjective amd we will never get a rule that makes it black and white. Defenders just need to be smarter and not give the refs a decision to make. Both incidents are ones where the defender cpuld easily have not touched the player at all and that wpuld have been that.

Also to those who know the fine print - does it mention anywhere in the rulebook about a threahold for a foul to be called a penalty or something like that?

My opinion is that it wasn’t a penalty, Salah was touched but it wasn’t enough to pull him down and he made the most of it. But I don’t blame him for doing that as pointed out so many players for other teams do it. Kane Dele and Son all do that very well and often get rewarded with penalties. But it’s about consistency from the referees. I felt the Burnley players was pushed against arsenal and should’ve been awarded a penalty, but not given. Then the Everton disallowed goal for a push? Was certainly less contact than the Burnley one not given.

I didn't, I said it was a penalty at the time, feel free to check the dates on archive posts. Lovrens mistake and dummets mistake the other day, both dived yet there was contact so both penalties.
