Virgil Van Dijk is an absolute monster. The way he chased down and kept pace with Traore was really something. Deceptive speed at its best. The man can pretty much do everything, and very very well. My opinion, but he is the best in the EPL, right now.

Spot on, Ed025. I would agree with you there, despite the not-too-shabby other players we have. It must do wonders for the forwards' and midfielders' confidence to know that if the ball gets past them, VVD is back there to clean it up. And then there's Alisson after that. 😉.

I thought he was best defender in league at Southampton the guy is pure quality, makes others around him look world class, he must be easily worth double what we paid for him now, the keeper is second on the list of importance he also has brought calm an confidence .

VVD is great BUT his is still a bit sluggish and too laid back, IMO. This is what we all have been banging on about him since he signed and tho he has improved in these fronts, the signs are still there. The hope is that he can make more progress on this front cos when he is fully switched on and aggressive, he is simply impregnable.

As for the game last night and under such conditions, Ed25 is bang on. It's all about the result and we got that w/ a clean sheet to boot. This is what big teams do. They are effective in both boxes and that is enuff to get the win w/ o "being at your best". sometimes, you don't need to be at your best. (That will NEVER happen all the time) . You just need to pick your spots, be effective in both penalty boxes and you get 3 pints and if possible, a clean sheet and that is what we did. On to Newcastle.

The composure he showed in the opposition box was price less if only it had not been blocked. Strikes could learn a thing or 2 lol.
