Morning all

Any worry on Ox is there any possibility of him playing for us at all this season.

Cheers.

{Ed025's Note - very doubtful zippy, even when he gets physically fit it will take time to get match fit mate..

What would you suggest the best way for him to get back to full fitness would be? If he will be too unfit for first team does that mean extensive training and spells in the u-23 team?

{Ed001's Note - extra training sessions, under-23 matches, maybe a behind closed doors friendly or two and some sub appearances when he is getting near.}

Do you think it will take a year for full fitness like it did Ings?

{Ed001's Note - sharpness rather than fitness, yes. Fitness can come fairly quickly, as they can do other things to keep fit while healing. It is the mental aspect of learning to trust your body is not going to break down and to move as you did before the injury.}

Thank you Ed. That's really detailed.

{Ed001's Note - I have a study somewhere I saved the link for about the recovery from ACL injuries. It just doesn't seem to be on this comp. Anyway, the study found, by monitoring the brain, that it took about 18 months for neural pathways to return to normal after an injury like that. I think it was 18 months, I am going by memory as I can't find the link I did have, just a piece on it which merely says 'months'. So it is about retraining the brain as much as the legs.}

Spot on, Ed's. it is not so much the physical aspect of recovery that is difficult. it is the mental part cos an injury that serious causes a lot of damage to one's psyche and confidence cos a lot of mental strength and emotion is experienced during and in the aftermath of the injury. I ripped my knee 7 years a go (ripped rotulien tendon and a broken patella) and it still affected me when I went back to play cos I could not do the things I wanted to do as I was scared I would injure the same knee again or injure the other knee as it is the one that carries your whole body weight during recovery.

{Ed001's Note - it is not really that part that is the issue, that is a fairly quick recovery, just a confidence thing. It is the fact that you change the way you walk and run while out injured and you have to retrain your body to move the way it naturally wants to. That is the big issue that really takes the time.}
