On lfctv they say around 6 weeks dependant on how he reacts too treatment but as u say 8 too Be safe, is lovren near fitness I hope so, I wonder if we might sign a defender in January now cos we don't know how Gomez will come back he is super important too us.

I doubt we'll go in for a cb this window. To get someone as good as gomes, especially when it will be seen as a panic buy will cost an absolute fortune and then there is no guarantee he will hit the ground running which he will need to.

It doesn't make sense so for that reason I'm out.

We need Lovren back as soon as possible. don't like Matip, does not give me any confidence.

{Ed025's Note - he had a great shot that hart saved brilliantly mate..

Lovren will be available and matip is his back up. Probably fab after that if needed. Unlikely to bring someone in when only 6 weeks.

Typical with big games coming up but let's be honest, every game is big and these things happen unfortunately, we'll be fine though I have no doubt, fingers crossed the lad comes back quicker than expected.

It would be very difficult to sign anyone, as if we did, it would really need to be someone better than Gomez, which would only hamper his development when he returns from injury. It makes no sense to sign someone better than Matip but not as good as Gomez to be 3rd or 4th choice centre half. Unless of course it is someone nearing the end of their career. Someone like Jose Fonte or Wes Morgan, not that I'd start either of those ahead of Lovren, it would be the only kind of move that made sense to provide cover and also mentor some of the younger players. I still can't see a defensive transfer happening though.

I knew gomez was good but I didn't realise how good. I think, if he continues to play along side big v he will be England's best cb for years to come. Such a shame about the injury coz the lad was in fine form.

It's a frustrating situation, hindsight is a great thing but given joe is now part of the starting centre back pairing its just seems unnecessary to be risking him at right back. The position requires a lot of running up and down the pitch which risks muscle injuries and in this case he has picked up an injury busting a cut trying to get cross in as far up the opposition side as he can get, going up against their full back who will of course be a tough tackle. To get injured in such a way and in such a game seems unnecessary although I can understand why klopp would play him there as there isn't anyone else to cover Trent who he doesn't want to over play given his age, but perhaps in future it would be better to just play Milner there in such a game. Not many other teams let alone a top side would be shifting o me of their 2 key centre backs into the fullback areas as they are just too valuable.

{Ed001's Note - why would you want to move Milner there? He has never played a full game at right back in his entire career!}

Got feel for the guy, seems to get injured at when on the rise. I honestly hope he gets well.

Lovs and Matip need to step up now cos they are needed. No need for some frivolous signing of some defender who is prolly not better than those we have. We just have to hope that they are up to the challenge. I know Lovs is cos he never hides and is very brave, all the things Matip is not.

That's fair ed, it would be a little bit silly I suppose, it was more just as a one game here and there thing rather then risking Joe is all. I suppose the ideal situation would be if there was a young lad coming through the academy who could get chance in games where Trent needs a rest.

I do think Milner could do a job there though as he was a solid performer at left back with the main issue being cutting inside all the time which wouldn't be the case in right back and also the issue being that it was all season so his form started to dip, but maybe as a every now and then thing it wouldn't be the worst. However as I say the preference would always be to give a young player their chance and the absolute final option should be to sign a needless player.
